Weder dbilmes Weder dbilmes CU2007 dbilmes Cornell scored three second-half goals to rally for a 3-1 win Tuesday night over Binghamton in its final non-league game, before closing the season with four Ivy games. If Cornell wins out (a difficult task), it has to hope that someone else knocks off Penn for Cornell to have a chance at the title. Re: 2022-23 Predictions - 1 year ago
Trotsky TBRW Predictions. The transfer portal likely means I have miscalculated returning points, and I'll have to revise a few times as I find errors, but... that's my story so far. This is very entertaining. But may I suggest you present the errors with "+" or "-" (ERROR = PREDICTED - ACTUAL)? For example, in 2022 you predicted 2, but the actual was 4, so the errorby Swampy - Hockey

Re: Cornell football 2022 - 1 year ago
I propose that until we get a coach who establishes a winning tradition, we don't hire any more alumni as HC. Recent history (at least the past 40 years) has been a progression to doormat status. We need a coach who knows how to pick a program up from the floor.by Swampy - Other Sports
Re: Cornell football 2022 - 2 years ago
I'm not an Andy Noel fan. But, IIRC, in 2019-2020, Cornell was #1 in M & W hockey, and men's lacrosse was ranked #2 (behind Syracuse, which had played a weaker schedule). Imagine COVID did not ended prematurely end the season, and we went on to win NC's in all 3 sports. Would anyone seriously criticize AN or MP for their poor handling of athletics? If we bring in a new AD, under which weby Swampy - Other Sports

marty osorojo I take it suggesting any connection between coaching and winning is out-of-bounds? I have watched several coaches win numerous games for their teams - Harkness not the least of which. But THIS doesn't happen in a typical hockey game. Was Woody out-of-bounds? This version is more informative and much more entertaining.by Swampy - Hockey
Re: New baseball field site approval received - 2 years ago
billhoward RichH billhoward Ken711 Cop at Lynah It appears construction has started on the new baseball facility. A bunch of heavy equipment has been busy at the new site Amy more progress on the baseball site? The odds baseball-field construction is faster-paced than the game itself? If there's a need for speed, might it be to get sports away from academic buildings so as to avoid pollution? Avby Swampy - Other Sports

Trotsky Al DeFlorio Weder Trotsky billhowardWe could have used that bar circa 2000 when you needed to find a bar for a college hockey or tournament viewing event and only they had access to some oddball satellite network. So much better now with streaming and currently with streaming that has decent video quality, no dropouts and the camera guy actually tracks the puck.People still whine, though.by Swampy - Hockey

George64 Ken711 I see commit Matt Tully ‘27 is wearing a chest protector. Did lax players wear them when the late George Boiardi ‘04 was playing? For those too young to remember, Boiardi was hit in the chest by a ball at the wrong instant, causing a fatal heart arrhythmia. . When I played club lacrosse during the early 70s, I never heard of such things, except for goalies. We routinely worby Swampy - Other Sports

Trotsky I would just like to add our lacrosse players from the working class are among the finest people at the university and their sexual proclivities are consensual. I thank them for their service. How do you know this? Is it from hearsay, or is it from first-hand experience?by Swampy - Hockey
Re: tOSU wins trademark case - 2 years ago
Wait. Are we talking about a copyright or a trademark? If its copyright, I'm going to copyright all the other articles and personal pronouns in several languages, so I can start getting royalties for use of my copyrights. If it's a trademark, that's a horse of a different color! To enforce use of the trademark, one would have to take any violators to court. And doesn't this mean that henceforth wby Swampy - Other Sports
Re: Andy Noel announces his retirement! - 2 years ago
billhoward There were some not-ridiculous reasons for naming interim lacrosse coaches, certainly including continuity. Ben DeLuca was let go fall 2013, not the time for find the right head coach, so assistant Matt Kerwick was named as interim. Kerwick was dismissed May 2017 and associate head coach Peter Millman was moved up, again as interim; this promotion maybe could have been made a permanentby Swampy - Other Sports

billhoward Trotsky Is Buczek setting up to be the lax Schafer? Set sights higher*: Connor Buczek is destined to be Cornell's athletic director 2030-2055. Bob Kane '34 had a run of thirty-some years, so it's possible, and Buczek should walk away before the time when a sixty-something athletic director comes to find students annoying. Bob Kane at the end railed against student government and how aby Swampy - Other Sports
Re: Ertel to OHL - 2 years ago
Ertel's story reminds me of Tony Romano's. He also was a hotshot scorer (but 178th in the draft) who left Cornell for the OHL. I don't think he even got a cup of coffee in the NHL. I hope Ertel does.by Swampy - Hockey
Re: Cornell in the Movies - 2 years ago
In HBO's new dramatization of "The Staircase" one of the daughters is going away to college "in New York." Later, when the family is in crisis, we see her in her bedroom with a "Cornell University" pillow on the bed. And, in Episode 6, she's wearing a Cornell sweatshirt when she's home sometime after Thanksgiving and before Xmas.by Swampy - John Spencer Is Dead
Re: Andy Noel announces his retirement! - 2 years ago
Chris '03 billhoward Knowing that many here regard Andy Noel as the blind squirrel who finds some nuts ... does he get credit for Connor Buczek and the lacrosse team's incredible run from "unlikely to make a deep run" to the closest anybody came to beating Maryland? No. I think RichH is right on the money. If Andy had done national searches for the previous three lacrosse coaches anby Swampy - Other Sports

Takeaway #8 on Lacrosse All Stars' list of 22 Takeaways from the 2022 season: Lacosse All Stars 8. Connor Buczek and Cornell Cornell is all Buczek has known as the D1 level. After finishing his playing career in Ithaca, Buczek worked his way up from volunteer assistant to replacing Peter Milliman after he left for Johns Hopkins in 2020. George64 SwampyBut what happens when an alum coach is a total failure but for over ten years has been out of the job market for graduates in the field they studied? They're not competitive elsewhere as a coach, but neither are they competitive any longer in their academic field. No happy ending here. billhoward Bill Tierney won six titles at Princeton, won one coach of the year award. Plus another at Denver. I mean, he picked up the slack for the Ivy League when things cooled down for Cornell after 1988. I hope Buczek loves Cornell. Because offers from non-Ivy schools could approach $300,000. BearLover The coaching staff did an unfathomably good job. I don’t understand how this was even possible after the last two years. That said, the transfer portal (in conjunction with the blanket fifth year of eligibility) is more garbage that we are going to have to contend with going forward. LGR14 Bought tickets in 103 based on the understanding that the allotment was for 102. Has that now changed? Who will be sitting in 102 now? Hard to believe they’d change things. Some people, either optimistic or savvy, bought package tickets for Sat. & Mon. games.by Swampy - Other Sports
