Re: Cornell hockey at MSG every year - 10 years ago
KeithK Tangent, I was back in Ithaca very briefly a couple weeks ago and I was struck by the fact that all of the new buildings are god awful ugly (at least from the outside). I guess that was probably true in the 90's too, but it's more dramatic when you go away for a while and come back, as opposed to living in the place. Trotsky Kyle RoseThe current MSG is a dump and will not be much missed, but surely you are not naïve enough to believe that the Port Authority will restore Penn Station to its former glory...? The entire Northeast corridor jumped the shark decades ago and I don't expect anything beautiful to ever be built (or rebuilt) there again. Chris '03 Weder One-year subscription now available for $71.95. Price goes up to $89.95 on Aug. 21. Shorter subscription terms also are available. One year of league-wide access is $95.95: I've been burned by Cornell's streaming video promises too many times. I'll pay for it *after* I see how it works, and whether it works on all my devices.by Kyle Rose - Hockey

KeithK Trotsky If Denver really was supposed to return the visit and they pulled out, that may have left us scrambling late. Seems pretty likely. I can't imagine Schafer agreeing to play in Denver without a return engagement in Lynah and those first two weekends in January (now listedas the exhibition game and the potential UMass game) seem likely to be when those games might have happened. Trotsky dag14Additionally, most donations to athletics come from alumni who played the sport rather than friends of the sport. This makes sense. I assumed donations came from Mr. Burns types. Re: FF Semi vs. Duke - 11 years ago
billhoward We all have to let off steam because we suspect it may be a while until there's a Cornell team that can seriously contend for the title again. I'm wonder if that's how hockey fans felt in the spring of 1969 with Ken Dryden departed. I think a lot of people thought this in 2009 when Max Seibald graduated.by Kyle Rose - Other Sports
Re: FF Semi vs. Duke - on Satellite Radio - 11 years ago
Can't really blame the refs for this one. Gotta blame that awful 3rd quarter. The 4th quarter, however, was amazing. AMAZING. It redeemed that game and made it exciting right up until the final minute. Too bad they fell short, but at least they ended the game playing like they meant it.by Kyle Rose - Other Sports

Re: New Rules? - 11 years ago
Trotsky Kyle RoseThe easiest way to achieve fewer blocked shots is to outlaw full cages: no one's going to be stupid enough to kneel to block a slapshot if they have a chance of taking it in the teeth. Doesn't help the guy who takes a deflection full face, though. Deflections always have less energy: elastic collisions are really not possible with any of the materials involved. Here's what I just sent them: Chelsea, Scottie: I'm cautiously optimistic to hear about the new Ivy League streaming video solution that has been announced, but I wanted to add my voice to those who are primarily concerned about video quality. I have a hard time believing in 2013 they could find something worse than Sidearm. So, I'm cautiously optimistic for next season. I'd still prefer Youtube because it plays on every video-capable device I own, but if it supports *something* that can play full-screen over HDMI at 30fps and not look like someone smeared vaseline over the lens, I'll be happy.by Kyle Rose - Hockey

Trotsky Hey, now. Shea was the Lynah Rink of baseball. It was a dump, but it was our dump. And here I thought Lynah was a rink with seats close to the action, a low roof that amplified crowd noise, and benches to make standing easier than sitting. In addition, of course, to being our dump.
