Re: ECAC Finals Weekend not on TV - 12 years ago
Aaron M. GriffinNow, I think that The Garden might be out of the Conference's price range or unreasonable for other reasons for the ECAC to start with that location in the City. I think that the idea to host the ECAC Championships in New York City is an intriguing idea nonetheless. The Barclays Center in Brooklyn will open in September. It is smaller than The Garden (14,500 vs. 18,200) and it wouby Kyle Rose - Hockey
Re: Cornell - Dartmouth post-series good news fun times - 12 years ago
A-ron At what point did the team stop inviting the fans on the ice to celebrate after making it to Placid/Albany/AC? I remember the students used to pour over the glass at the end of the game until they changed the glass around 2000. After that we came in through the zamboni doors until at least 2003. Was it a policy change because of safety concerns? As I recall 1996, climbing over the glass wasby Kyle Rose - Hockey
Re: Atlantic City Roll Call - 12 years ago
Robb Kyle Rose I decided reluctantly to go. The combination of factors in favor of going were: (1) The weather has been remarkably good, which means it may be even nicer there this year than yesteryear's balmy weather. (2) The ECAC has effectively blacked-out the poorly-attended games from TV, a gambit that resulted in at least 2 extra tickets being sold. (Curses!) I can handle B2, but I thinby Kyle Rose - Hockey

Re: Atlantic City Tickets: Which Side is the Home Team - 12 years ago
For all y'all's info, the Marriott Courtyard a few blocksabout a mile from Boardwalk Hall seems to have become available for a Friday->Sunday stay using rewards points sometime over the past week. Now if parking at the Trump Plaza is still free, this will be my cheapest ECAC Championship weekend ever, even counting gas.by Kyle Rose - Hockey

Robb Chris '03 ursusminor Robb Rita scoop85 cbuckser ursusminor FWIW, RPI-TV will be streaming the games from Atlantic City . Edit: The games won't be televised. That is good news, albeit a small consolation prize for the games not being televised. First time in my recollection that the games won't be televised somewhere. Rather pathetic. Jim Hylathe entire women's tournament this weekend is on Redcast. This is an assertion not yet in evidence. We'll only know in retrospect whether this is actually true or not, and given RedCast's track record...by Kyle Rose - Hockey
Re: Hockey Stinks (in an olfactory sense) - 12 years ago
I find it's mostly sufficient to simply dry everything off. The vast majority of the stink can be defeated by not leaving sweaty equipment lying around: to that end, I have a rack set up in my basement with a box fan at the bottom, blowing upward, that dries everything within a few hours. I have to wash my socks after every game and my shirt/skullcap every few games, but as a result of this stratby Kyle Rose - Hockey

jtn27 The Ithaca Journal is perhaps best known for sucking. I don't think that there's any question that the Sun is the best paper in Ithaca (although as a Sun writer I am a bit biased). Jim Hyla Wow, Kyle, I almost felt like I was going to agree with your post. Then you had to go and blow it.You might feel differently if you were the one being taunted. Or, from reading your posts, maybe you wouldn't. Natch. I got taunted plenty in middle school. I survived. And in those cases it was truly mean-spirited, whereas in the case of an entire rink chanting something rude it's unlikelyby Kyle Rose - Hockey

Josh '99Chanting "smallpox blankets" at actual native americans is racist. Drawing attention to race or a distinguishable property of a race as a means of mocking someone feels like racism to me, especially since the people chanting it are not thinking, "Let's make fun of those European descendants who murdered Native Americans with smallpox blankets!" RichH ftyuv KeithKOTOH The complaint that $ should only be used to replace S is silly. NCAA isn't a swear word that we're trying to "sanitize" by switching a letter to a symbol. It's commentary. ugarte KeithK Kyle Rose Yes, I have no doubt that you, as a New Yorker, would think so. Re: Hockey Advisers - 12 years ago
ftyuv tl;dr on most of this, but it's always bothered me when people write "NCAA" as "NC$$." Firstly, I find that sort of name-calling puerile and distracting from any substantive argument that may also be there; but more importantly, "$" is the substitution for "S", not "A." Robb Kyle RoseBasically, I think higher education's financial model is fundamentally broken, but I don't really want to write a treatise in a thread: maybe at some point I'll explain it in a blog post and link it here.Sounds good - I would be curious to read it. Re: Hockey Advisers - 12 years ago
ugarte Kyle RoseGetting back to the NC$$ in general: the NC$$ is a cartel formed to suppress the price of labor and marketing, plain and simple. For people who complain about the abuses of corporate monopolies and cartels, you are all awfully quiet on this point. A-fucking-hem. Ok, I should have said "most". Re: Hockey Advisers - 12 years ago
Robb So it seems that your biggest beef is with Cornell's matching policy (which disproportionately rewards kids with better academic credentials). I can see that argument. But why are you throwing the Ivy League as a whole under the bus? How are HYP disproportionately rewarding their better students (or better athletes) compared to their worse ones? My objection is many-faceted. Relative to tby Kyle Rose - Hockey
