Re: Cornell @ Clark - 11 years ago
css228NHL Numbers I love numbers: it's hard to argue with numbers. The analysis here might be missing something, but the difference between dumping and carrying is so large that there would have to be a huge unaccounted-for effect to negate the conclusion from this article. Good stuff.by Kyle Rose - Hockey

Johnny 5 Oh, well......I'd like to say there's always next year. This is one of those seasons where, in pro sports, the team would wipe the slate clean—fire, trade, or release almost everyone involved—and just start from scratch. Something is terribly wrong, and it's not at all clear where the problem lies.by Kyle Rose - Hockey

It's increasingly looking like the @Lynah East game is going to be the Toilet Bowl of the ECAC. Maybe the Big Red can at least make it entertaining.by Kyle Rose - Hockey

jtn27 Kyle Rose 6. Coaching - The coaching staff isn't reaching the players or effectively instilling in them the spirit of Cornell hockey. I'm not saying this is a problem, only that not including it in a list of potential problems is missing (or deliberately excluding) one of the more obvious inputs to a successful team. In terms of coaching, I'm not ready to suggest that Schafer be fireby Kyle Rose - Hockey

margolism Didn't Yale kind of have a season like this last year? If I recall, after two dominant years, last year was a downer for them, before stepping up again this season. I think Cornell's performance this season can be attributed to one or more of the following reasons: 1. Leadership - Perhaps this year's captains are not instilling the same attitude and ethic that last years's captaiby Kyle Rose - Hockey
Re: CU vs Yale - 11 years ago
Jim Hyla Speaking for myself, I found rooting for the '00's a lot more fun than this year. I'd much rather be worrying about playing critical games in March than worrying about being able to get into March. Agreed. It feels like Greg's seeing a 90% empty glass as 10% full. There is no way to polish this turd: Cornell's performance has been terribly disappointing in all but one game I've personallby Kyle Rose - Hockey

munchkin In regards to restitution to an Academy - if you leave before you take your Oath which is the beginning of Sophomore year. So you can only be there for one year without owing them anything. I got an appointment to Annapolis before deciding that I wanted a typical college experience, and came to Cornell, rather than such a structured one. marty At the end of the third period last night the Union at Yale game was tied at 2-2. My son posted a Facebook link to the game that was streaming through YouTube. I was not able to watch the OT as I was not home (and I don't think the game streams for free to mobile devices). So in addition to RPI and QPac we now have the luxury of watching away games at Yale for free. Yale's YouTube "by Kyle Rose - Hockey

Trotsky Remember, it's only profound if it's unpleasant. I think I've made this point before, but the real problem here is that the trustees generally don't have to cross campus every day, or (ever) use the buildings they advocate or approve. When minor stakeholders have the final say on something, it's a complete crapshoot whether the end result will optimally serve the major stakeholders. You mby Kyle Rose - Other Sports
Early musings on alternatives to the corporate John Harvard's pre-game - 11 years ago
So, for those of us not interested in the corporate takeover of John Harvard's prior to the @Harvard game on Feb 16, I thought I would start this thread to get people thinking about possible alternatives. My vote would be for Cambridge Common: it's a little more than 2x the distance from the rink as JH's, but it's also a better restaurant and tap house, and anyway I don't mind walking. Scersk '97 RichH Just brutalism with glass, a few desultory curves, and an insulting tin ceiling. Just what I was thinking. Sadly, too many of Cornell's recent additions are similarly brutal. The Ives addition, for instance, is brutalism with a partial stone veneer.by Kyle Rose - Other Sports

flyersgolfHas anyone else noticed that the HD picture has been downgraded from the first game of the year? We put an hdmi cable to the ipad and watch it on the big screen. Picture I think went from 1080 or 720 to 480p, which is what is coming through tonight. I actually only noticed one game that appeared to my eyes to be truly HD: that would be the second Colorado College game. Other than thatby Kyle Rose - Hockey

cth95 I thought it was only two laps when I did it in the fall of '90, but maybe I am remembering incorrectly. If it was more than that, than I feel better about being totally shot It was 3 laps in 1994. I wasn't at all in shape or even much of a swimmer. Johnny 51.) Obviously an iPhone, because the best team deserves coverage employing the most advanced & sophisticated technology. Neh? The iPhone is more like western bias back when NCAA tournament teams were chosen in smoke-filled back rooms: no one doubts they're good, but they are also the recipients of unfair advantages granted by an unelected oligarchy.by Kyle Rose - Hockey

ugarte I can't believe I haven't read this yet from anyone but: we were the better team on the ice. You are absolutely right. jtn27 Kyle Rose The problem there is the white pants. I don't see anything wrong with it from the waist up. The white pants obviously don't help, but I think it's the shirt that's the problem. There's too much going on. Plus, it's a little difficult to read the team name. Forgive my naievete, but... isn't that the point?by Kyle Rose - Hockey

jtn27 RM 08 Not sure if this has been mentioned elsewhere, but from an MSG Network press release: "Cornell, which is expected to wear camouflage jerseys during the second period of Saturday’s game in support of The Wounded Warrior Project..." bnr24 I read that, but listening to the whistle in person, it definitely happened after the goal was in net. It wouldn't be the first odd call all night, with 4 game misconducts awarded, some of which I still don't know what happened. So here's the issue: even if the goal occurred before the whistle was blown, the ref has no way of knowing that if he didn't see it. Once the ref decides to blow tby Kyle Rose - Hockey
