Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Conference Tournaments / NCAA Bubble - 11 years ago
billhoward ajh258 So if Union wins, and Brown wins tomorrow, we'll have 4 ECAC teams in the NCAA? Brown makes the NCAAs, they're going to walk to the top of the arena and try to look out a window or fire door to see if they on set at the Truman Show. I wonder if the Cornell players will be watching it from the clubhouse at the golf course.by Kyle Rose - Hockey
Re: Who do you want to win in AC? - 11 years ago
KeithK marty I guess I agree with Kyle, but I'm looking for a sinkhole to swallow Boardwalk Hall. I no longer have any beef with AC and Boardwalk Hall. There's no longer any reason for me to ever go there. QFT. The sooner it is forgotten, the better. And the Boardwalk Hall people were very nice, so I wish no ill will toward them: the arena just happens to be in a dump a 6 hour drive from where Iby Kyle Rose - Hockey
Re: Game 3 v. Q - 11 years ago
ugarte Well, sure, but the team checked in just as you checked out. If Saturday night is your standard for "checked back in", we have different standards. Really, it's no different from the semifinal last year (6-1), the final the year before (6-0), the final two years before that (5-0), the final in 2006 (6-2), etc., except that it came a weekend early this year, and I was expecting iby Kyle Rose - Hockey

I had already mostly checked out of this season a month ago, around the same time some combination of the players/coaching staff/dice rolls did the same.I'm not sure if you noticed, but the team went on a great run for more than a month. Re: We can't possibly win - 11 years ago
andyw2100 Trotsky That was our first win against a national #1 since 11/15/96 against Vermont, and our first win at a national #1 since the second game of the Denver NCAA series on 3/22/86. And our first MEANINGFUL win at a #1 since (I expect Greg to tell us), because that Denver win was somewhat less than meaningful since it was a total goals series and we won the game but lost the series. Tom Lento Kyle, were you hitting the login page on play? If you log in and then use the back button to return to the video it should work. I didn't even click on the link. I was just being snarky about Jason's not having a Facebook account. (Yeah, I'd personally rather all these things were on Youtube myself for the same general reason I'd like to see Cornell pursue Youtube as a video distributorby Kyle Rose - Hockey
Re: General Women's Thread - 11 years ago
JasonN95 Tom Lento scoop85 Jim Hyla Women win 4-2. Finals at 1 tomorrow. Taylor Woods with the hat trick -- scored game winner on a re-direction of a beautiful Jenner feed with about 1:35 left. Hat trick highlight reel: That pass from Jenner was a thing of beauty. Is there a way to see the video without joining Facebook? Perhaps someone can also find a version that doesn't requireby Kyle Rose - Hockey
Re: Women this weekend on ESPN3 - 11 years ago
Trotsky The audio isn't nothing, and that's what we have really paid for -- access to the audio stream. I will not pay for audio. Come on: this is 2013. And FWIW I'm back off RedCast until something dramatic changes. IMO, Yale has set the standard with their Youtube-based offering: it works on every device that supports Youtube and it looks great.by Kyle Rose - Hockey

David Harding Kyle Rose David Harding Kyle Rose Anyone know what happened to the section 104 tickets? Any mention of them disappeared a few minutes before the ticket sale opened. Trotsky ugarte Mark Lewis, NCAA executive vice president of championships and alliances “Maintaining the integrity of sports and protecting student-athlete well-being are at the bedrock of the NCAA’s mission, and are reflected in our policies prohibiting the hosting of our championships in states that provide for single game sports wagering." Re: Cornell at Yale 2013 - 11 years ago
Yale's video is beautiful: HD, smooth, professional graphics, cameraman is paying attention, it plays from within XBMC so I can watch full-screen in my living room, etc. RedCast would be ridiculously embarrassing, if anyone at athletics had any shame.by Kyle Rose - Hockey

TrotskyAs I'm sure you understand, the larger rant is against the "what can not be measured is not important" fallacy I don't think that's what Swampy is saying. I'm all for appreciating things that cannot be compared quantitatively... but competing for tenths of a point of beauty in the eyes of a judge is absurd: subjective, arbitrary, and pointless. billhoward Nice way to get your 15 minutes of fame in 15 seconds. If you were a college admissions committee that hadn't acted on his app, maybe you could revisit his maturity level. Not that we all haven't *thought* about some get-even futile gesture but it will be more permanent than tattoos. Please. CowbellGuy Better yet, use MooTools. I'm sure there's something Kyle and I agree on. Just haven't found it yet. Even better yet, don't use frames. I'm sure MooTools is fine; I'm just familiar with jQuery from having used it for several projects. I think we probably both agree that writing directly to the browser's API is a bad idea.by Kyle Rose - Hockey

Trotsky BMac Let's forget the last couple months, forget that Sucks won a game this week, focus on the positive: Sucks sucks. Let us all watch John Stewart tell us so: My takeaway is John Stewart actually still thinks Harvard is the most prestigious university in the United States. It aint 1975 anymore, my friend. Please. That's only a junior university.by Kyle Rose - Hockey
Re: General Women's Thread CU 4 Princeton 1 - 11 years ago
RichHWell, showing up with 5:00 left in the 1st is a new tradition. I think this is just another symptom of its not really being fun anymore. I can only speak from my own experience, but as much as I like hockey, what really got me excited to go to games as a student was the whole experience, which meant symbiosis between the team and the crowd. The crowd energy that existed in 1996 is simply misby Kyle Rose - Hockey

TrotskyThere's really nothing "outrageous" about the fish tradition anymore. I'm all for continuing it, but we've just been going through the motions for years. Tying a chicken to the net was pretty outrageous. But the problem with traditions that commemorate specific events is they wind up just being me-too-ism. flyersgolf I not bothered to list all the screw ups from this service the last few games. Video cutting out multiple times, no HD etc. But tonight the service cut out at the beginning of the 3rd and I could not get back on. RedCast is dead, like the server went down.
