Re: Cornell @ Clarkson, 2/23 - 3 months ago
Holy crap, this freaking thread. Trotsky Dafatone Has Clarkson always done that stupid bell sound effect on hits? It's stupid. Not that I remember. It is idiotic. Just for 67 years or so. (edit: I see JTW entered the room earlier to already lay this down) Trotsky These guys are pretty bad homers. I am used to Clarkson having much better announcers. scoop85 Trotsky George64 Gabriel Seger Named 2024 ECAC Hockey Men's Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Congratulations Gabe! Also interesting to note, Cornell alum, Ben Tupker ‘23, was Union’s nominee.Often "scholar" athlete awards have more than a hint of bullshit about them, but from that article Seger certainly sounds like an impressive student. George64 Do any of these metrics factor in how a team is doing recently, versus how they played in November 2023? It used to be part of the criteria. “Record in last 10” or something similar back when the smoke-filled room still held a scrap of power. I remember being against that then.by RichH - Hockey

Greg: THREAD TITLE!! Por favor. (I didn’t really care tonight because I was able to catch much of the 3rd via radio, but I’m on weird work hours this year and hope to do some time shift watching down the stretch)by RichH - Hockey
Re: Brown vs. Cornell 2/16 - 3 months ago
marty George64 underskill ER Is there somewhere I can watch the highlights? YouTube Watch it in real time, then at half speed. Some really great passing. There's this now, too. I’m guessing we don’t want to watch this one at half speed.by RichH - Hockey

BearLover Actually, I’m pretty he just wants to be loud and outrageous. I highly doubt he is trying to provoke anybody. The only person who seems ruffled here is you. Ahhhh, thanks for that laugh - that was good forum comedy gold right there, baby.by RichH - Hockey

BearLover RichH BearLover George64 Just came across this very old interview with Mike commenting on Pecknold. People on this forum rooted for Quinnipiac to win the national title last season (something Cornell hasn’t done in 53 years). *shrug* Where? Show me. Here’s the thread, it’s mainly people making fun of you for continuing to bitterly assert this. I hated Q winning it because theby RichH - Hockey

rojo Per CBS Sports: Sam Malinski was reassigned to AHL Colorado on Saturday. Malinski was scratched for Saturday's 4-0 loss to the Panthers. It was his third scratch in four games since the All-Star break, so it's no surprise he's going down to the Eagles to get some playing time. Malinski has emerged as the top call-up option when the Avalanche need reinforcements. So he was reassigned from Cby RichH - Hockey

Trotsky I thought from the posts that we had lost. True about a lot of game-chatter in the “Other Sports” forum. I swear given the grousing during lax season, I’m sometimes surprised when I find we won 16-7.by RichH - Other Sports

upprdeck tickets are being sold. people are not coming.. In the old days people came all the time.. Now many townies have tickets but dont come both nights. You cant give them away any more so sold tickets become empty seats more often on the townie side, even with very good teams. I dont think pricing is keeping the students away. And while many dont care I know covid is still a thingby RichH - Hockey
Re: Cornell in the Movies - 4 months ago
Dunc Cornell is name dropped in the Holdovers a few times Highly recommend The Holdovers, I Loved it And I know it takes place and was filmed in New England, but the bar they go to (pinball scene) reminded me a lot of The Palms.by RichH - John Spencer Is Dead
Re: Cornell at Dartmouth, 1/27 - 4 months ago
ugarte how did we get outshot by dartmouth what the fuck i'm still mad about this game The defense babied the puck in the defensive zone all night and just about any Dartmouth forecheck could have their way anytime. Why is it always Dartmouth. Seems like it’s over 20 years with this dark bugaboo they have on us.by RichH - Hockey
Re: Cornell at Harvard, 1/26 - 4 months ago
adamw RichH upprdeck if go on any kind of a run we get our RPI above .5600 and we move up 3-5 spots.. Are we good enough to do that. Like unbeaten in their last 7? That kind of run? Some of us need to chill out about the PWR situation in January and enjoy the rest of the regular season. We’ve barely begun the 2nd half of the league slate. Things are typically still fluid into March. Sheetz.by RichH - Hockey

Hmm. I could make some “real victim” crack, but instead, I’ll just say to CaL that I respect their place as long-standing poster here who has value in this space. I just took a beat and seriously thought about the point of view they presented. I feel bad that you’ve been hurt or offended by the changing times, even though I think you’re not fully seeing why changing policies are important inby RichH - John Spencer Is Dead

billhoward Trotsky "Thank God there is still a sport for middle-sized white boys." Yesterday in Manhattan, we were solicited by a Black guy selling tickets to a comedy club. As I walked past, he said, "We need White boys." I told him, "Look up Colin Jost. He counts as two." Got the guy to laugh. Re: Cornell vs Quinnipiac, 1/20 - 4 months ago
dbilmes My nitpick about Vanini is that he uses the word "great" way too many times, making it lose its impact. I’ll allow it, for no other reason than it’s something different than the near constant use in sports broadcasting of the word “unbelievable” for anything that is deemed mildly positiveby RichH - Hockey

BearLover marty Trotsky George64 Trotsky I love him. I will grant someone needs to take him aside and explain nobody gives a shit about the Binghamton Rangers. The Binghamton Rangers ceased to exist after 1997. When Grady was there, they were the Binghamton Senators. Now they’re gone, too.Sorry. Re: Women 2023-24 - 5 months ago
Weder CU2007 I just looked at the women’s ECAC standings - they give out half points?! Yeah, it's what they came up with instead of having shootouts after OT. I looked at the NEWHA conference, and it seems they have a curious system where a win is worth two points and a tie is worth one point. Also strange they only have columns designating Wins, Losses, Ties, and Points. That’s it. Huh. How abby RichH - Hockey
Re: "When The Red Come Skating In" - 5 months ago
HeafDog abmarksANd, to heafdog...as several pointed out way back when you first introduced that ditty, it's not even unique to the league. SLU? SLU chants "SLU". But we should continue to chant "Let's Go Red", right? Let's not let the perfect be the enemy of the good. While not ideal, this nonetheless has energized people, injected some much-needed variety, and is a stepby RichH - Hockey

scoop85 Forward Parker Murray from Chilliwack of the BCHL has committed to Cornell. He’s a 20 year old 6’5” power forward who has a heavy shot. He’s the son of longtime NHLer Glen Murray. 2 inches taller than our last Murray with a heavy shot. Sounds good to me.by RichH - Hockey

ugarte Trotsky Wells?we play one or two D-III games every year. SUNY Morrisville was one of our first games this year, marking the first time I'd heard of Morrisville (the town, not the school) and I've lived in New York for 50+ years. If one wasn’t paying attention, one could be surprised to learn that Wells began admitting men in 2005.by RichH - Other Sports

Awfully glad to hear that there are ad-men who think people will want to buy Zagnut bars endorsed by famous Yale squash players. If there's one thing the general public adores, it's Ivy Leaguers. High-end recruits with brains will still choose Notre Dame/Duke/Stanford/name-your-Jock-Powerhouse-with-good-academics to play basketball over Penn/Princeton.by RichH - John Spencer Is Dead

Re: Dan Swanstrom new Cornell head football coach - 6 months ago
billhoward Ken711 The new indoor practice facility slated for construction this Fall is a good start. But, yes the new coach needs all the resources necessary to recruit student athletes and hire and retain a quality staff. 37 varsity sports, 1 practice facility. Does a 3-4 football team get priority over an 8-3 soccer team? And if the women's soccer team is 9-2? I mean, what do they all do rby RichH - Other Sports
Re: Cornell Hockey Coverage - 6 months ago
Trotsky It's a really low bar. Hopefully we'll begin to see something like the flowering of scriptwriting after fifty years of stifling by the networks, and we'll begin to see actual writers who cover sports, rather than the low effort, LCD hacks of the bad old days.by RichH - Hockey
