Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: QF Game 3, Game Thread - 20 years ago
I'm not saying you're wrong, but are you sure that didn't happen right after the end of a PP? I am 100% positive that Salmela was used as a forward for one or two non-PP-related shifts. And I think both times, this happened in the 3rd period. They had to try something for God's sake!by Avash - Hockey
Re: Game 3 Postgame thread - 20 years ago
From the USCHO recap: Clarkson lost Matt Nickerson, who was checked hard, shoulder-to-shoulder, by Cornell's Shane Hynes late in the second period. Nickerson, the freshman who broke the ECAC single-season record for penalty minutes on Saturday, suffered a separated shoulder and his status is questionable for next weekend. ....someone else say it....by Avash - Hockey
Re: QF Game 3, Game Thread - 20 years ago
Mike put Salmela in as a seventh d-man just for the PP. That, unfortunately, means he doesn't have four full lines playing. Just reading through the game thread for the hell of it.........Actually, Salmela played a little non PP time as a forward. I noticed this because I saw Salmela deep in the offensive zone and looked back to the blue line, where Downs and O'Byrne were standing.by Avash - Hockey
Re: Game 3 Postgame thread - 20 years ago
George Roll has obviously done a great job with that Clarkson team, and they played their hearts out the last two games and took advantage of every opportunity they had. The loss hurts, but hopefully it can be a driving force next year, just like the Harvard and UNH losses were in 2002. Dustin Traylen is officially one of my least favorite human beings. J-M Pelletier was outdueled tonight, making 22 saves for Springfield, in a 3-0 loss to Portland (whose goalie made 44 saves to earn the shutout). And for the first time in their professional careers, Stephen Bâby and Doug Murray played against each other tonight, as Chicago defeated Cleveland 4-2 at home. The two teams meet again on March 24, this time in Cleveland. Since being sent bby Avash - Hockey

It was great that everyone seemed to be on time or early tonight. Everyone be there early tomorrow as well!by Avash - Hockey
Re: Around the Rest of Hockey This Weekend - 20 years ago
Howard has split time with Doyle all season long. And Whitehead will continue with the rotation through the playoffs. Maine has a history of doing this, if I'm not mistaken (Snow/Dunham in 1993....and the other two the last time they won the national title, but I forget their names...)by Avash - Hockey
Re: Women's Playoff Games - 20 years ago
5 goals in 3 and a half minutes in the second leads Harvard to a 9-1 win over Cornell. Looks like that Game 1 was pretty close for the first half of the game; after 35 minutes of play, it was only 1-0 Harvardby Avash - Hockey
Re: Around the Rest of Hockey This Weekend - 20 years ago
Howard lowers his GAA again. I know they like to alternate goalies but my red and white glasses are seeing a coach not choosing to start a guy wth a GAA lower than Lenny on purpose. Howard's GAA is currently 1.17, but even though LeNeveu finished with a 1.20, he had a 1.14 going into the playoffs, as I recall (and a couple goals each from Harvard and Mankato, and 3 from UNH raised that to 1.2by Avash - Hockey
Re: Cornell alumni in the pros: March 2004 - 20 years ago
Pretty good night for the class of 2003 in the pros: Tonight in Springfield, LeNeveu returned to make 38 saves on 43 shots as Springfield defeated Hartford 6-5 despite being outshot 43-24. Jason LaBarbera, who has seen some time in the NY Rangers net this season, started for Hartford, but was pulled during the 2nd period. Dominic Moore was 1 of the Hartford players who scored on Lenny. Re: Cornell alumni in the pros: March 2004 - 20 years ago
Jean-Marc Pelletier returned from his stint in the NHL to the Falcons tonight and his 37 save effort was not enough, as Springfield lost 3-0. With Bierk getting the call-up to the Coyotes, and with the Falcons releasing goalie Scott Dickie 3 days ago, this leads me to believe that LeNeveu is better since they're back to 2 goaltenders in Springfield. Maybe he'll play this weekend against Hartfordby Avash - Hockey
Re: Bugs, Fixes, New Features - 20 years ago
I actually noticed this a while ago, so it's not a problem with the new forum, but I'll mention it anyway.... I noticed that for the Archives on elynah's main page, if you go to 2001-2002, none of the links to the highlights or video streams work. EDIT: only clicking on the Red/White game and the Wilfrid Laurier exhibition game works on the 2001-2002 archive page.by Avash - Hockey
Re: Smoore - 20 years ago
If YOU watched the replay, clearly you saw the dogpile, where players from both teams threw themselves onto the two of them with such velocity that Moore's head was scraped along the ice. Bertuzzi didn't do that himself. Of course he did. After the sucker punch, Bertuzzi grabbed Moore's arms and held them behind him so that he couldn't brace himself on the fall, thus allowing Moore to fall facby Avash - Hockey

I believe the Harvard-Brown game is being televised on CN8 and Time Warner this Friday night.by Avash - Hockey
Re: Don't see this box score everyday - 20 years ago
Speaking of weird boxscores...it was mentioned in SI this week that the Harvard womens hockey team outshot Vermont 71-2 In the past, the MIT women's team has had some pretty unfortunate box scores:by Avash - Hockey
Re: Don't see this box score everyday - 20 years ago
Wasn't there some game a few weeks ago that was going to head into overtime with a 0-0 tie, but someone scored at 19:59.58? Indeed, a 1-0 Ohio State win over Quinnipiac...by Avash - Hockey

Re: first round playoff scores - 20 years ago
That Martinez guy over at USCHO, by the way, predicted series wins this weekend by RPI, Harvard, Clarkson, and St. Lawrence. If that indeed does happen (and those 4 teams are winning their Game 1s right now), we'd play Clarkson.by Avash - Hockey
Re: first round playoff scores - 20 years ago
I think all of these are at the end of the second period: RPI 3 Princeton 1 SLU 3 Yale 2 Harvard 2 Vermont 0 Clarkson 5 Union 1by Avash - Hockey
Re: New Arena for Cornell - 20 years ago
Here we go; starting all over again with post #1 ... I always thought that it would be a good idea to put a small balcony or some form of luxury boxes along the west wall of Lynah (near the scoreboard). Achilles Rink up at Union has something similar, not really a luxury box, but an area for the press to sit.by Avash - Hockey
