Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Alumni in the pros 24-25 - 3 months ago
BearLover The Rancor I play occasionally with a kid who's heading to Chicago Steel for Juniors, and to Maine for Collage (unfortunately, because he's so darn good) that Head Coach Mike Garman is off to Notre Dame to be Associate Head Coach. FWIW, the kid is super nice, an amazing player, but seems to have zero academic ambition and is only concerned with hockey and getting to the NHL. "Wby Al DeFlorio - Hockey

dbilmes Inside Lacrosse just republished this look back at the 1976 championship game between Cornell and Maryland, calling it "the greatest championship game of all time." I was in the stands in Providence that day and would have to agree! I, too.by Al DeFlorio - Other Sports

mike1960 That was probably the best defense we'll see the rest of the season. They may not be the most talented, but they play together and they are well coached. They do their jobs. Very true.by Al DeFlorio - Other Sports

Swampy Al DeFlorio mike1960 Swampy jjanow99 Hey, this game is 2 days away and we don’t even have a new topic yet! I’m feeling good about this game. Offense and defense have both improved since these teams played on March 2. We had only been practicing and playing for a month at that point. We win by 3-5. Richmond's improved too. dbilmes upprdeck we have a team in the final 8 and hockey gets tons of discussion while Lax gets none. That's because Bearlover isn't getting everyone upset on the lacrosse part of this forum. Shhh. Don't wake him.by Al DeFlorio - Other Sports
Re: 2025-26 Incoming Freshman and Transfers - 4 months ago
BearLover Al DeFlorio arugula Don’t get me wrong. I want to win within the rules as they exist. Of course. But if Cornell doesn't win, I won't find it "devastating" or "brutal" or "depressing." Still getting triggered by innocuous terminology used by 99% of sports fans, eh? Not just the words, but the context within which they are used: the demand for "investby Al DeFlorio - Hockey

arugula BearLover arugula One of the reasons I love following Cornell sports is that I can unironically refer to the teams as we. Also that I can engage in a measure of sanctimony on thinking that we are somehow doing it the right way and are better than at least our non-Ivy opponents. Having elderly freshman undermines the power of my sanctimony which, along with sarcasm, is my superpower. I liby Al DeFlorio - Hockey

arugula ugarte arugula A 21 year old freshman. Oy. Hate that.i recommend getting over it I am over it. Doesn’t mean I have to like. I’m not saying all freshman should be 18 but 21 seems a bit much. Serious question, under current rules, is there a limit? Could a college recruit a 24 year old? Bertrand was older.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey

Swampy jjanow99 mike1960 I would not be surprised to see Richmond deliver an upset today. Colgate is playing well at the right time. I think they'll win too. They’re Down 3-0 late in the first quarter, very sloppy with the ball. UNC 9 - UR 8 w/ 2:08 left in Q3. 11-10 Spiders mid 4thby Al DeFlorio - Other Sports

jjanow99 KenP Do we know yet where the quarterfinal games will be played? Higher seed campus or neutral site(s)? All right, I’m going to be the wet blanket here—we have to win Sunday night first. I really don’t remember the Albany game earlier in the season. Didn’t they hang with us for a while? I know nothing about Siena. Both playing well lately. Need to come out motivated. George64 Al DeFlorio The Marrett-Murray-Ugolini line senior line was the closest I've seen to BU's slick Pinball Line centered by Herb Wakabayashi Who could forget the BU power play with Wakabayashi, Gray and ??? .Sometimes Ed Wright, other times Serge Boily. As memorable were the Wakabayashi/Wright penalty kills.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
Re: Carlo A. Ugolini ‘73 RIP - 4 months ago
Troyfan I thought that was BC? Carlo was a member of that great freshman team of 1969. They were as much fun to watch as the varsity. And no line to get in. That would have been Ned Harkness's last class of recruits. But the ice was already shifting. A Ned-less Cornell and a BU with scholarships and it's been uphill ever since.by Al DeFlorio - Hockey
