Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Daily Sun Article 11/11 - 20 years ago
"I was mad, I was pissed off, because I'm a fan, I'm trying to be a good fan, and they're inhibiting my ability to have pride in Cornell and pride in my team," Linder said. Apparently, if you can't say 'a**hole', you can't possibly have pride in Cornell or the hockey team. And this isn't a know-nothing freshman, it is the president of the SA, a junior.by Tub(a) - Hockey
Re: new cheers and old cheers - 20 years ago
Hey Bâby was played on Friday night due to fan request, but played during an intermission. Saturday was an a cappella version started by section B. The Austin Powers cheer has a simple reason for living on, "Do I make you Hornby" works quite well with that cheer.by Tub(a) - Hockey
Re: [OT] The EJ Shuffle - 20 years ago
"The kid thinks he's a kid." That statement disturbed me a little. I don't know that there is anything wrong with it, but it kind of goes against the idea that we shouldn't treat handicapped people differently...by Tub(a) - Hockey

I hardly think they would be satisfied to see Lynah East 4 times a year.by Tub(a) - Hockey
Re: video feed? - 20 years ago
There's a difference between a joke and "you can't view Cornell hockey cause we're too lazy to support your choice of computer." We don't know if that's the case, of course, but if it is, it's hardly a 'joke.' I'm not too familiar with comptability issues, but would it cost them more to make the video compatible with Mac? It would make sense for them to cater to the larger audience ifby Tub(a) - Hockey
Re: Ticket Line Procedures - 21 years ago
if the front of the line is composed mostly of clueless freshmen then lynah is going to suck big time this year. Awwwwwww SEE YA! Assgoos!!!by Tub(a) - Hockey
Re: Nieuwendyk signs w/ Toronto - 21 years ago
Any chance of Nieuwendyk getting a fourth championship ring with a fourth team? Yeah, if the Leafs trade himby Tub(a) - Hockey
Re: "Davy" cell phone ringtone - 21 years ago
I would rather have everyone's cell phones go off all at the same time, with any kind of ring, and then head straight into "Your mom called..." If that could be organized, it would be fantastic!by Tub(a) - Hockey
Re: Leneveu signs with Phoenix? - 21 years ago
I mean, you never know what could have happened this season, as far as injuries or less impressive stats, so I can't really blame the guy. Also, with the NHL where it is, it was probably a good move by Leneveu to get a multi-year contract before the current CBA expires.by Tub(a) - Hockey
Burke to Boston? - 21 years ago
This is somewhat of a disturbing situation. If Burke leaves, their only goalies in the system are Boucher and Pelletier. Hopefully, they aren't making this trade because of certain discussions with Lenny we aren't aware of Of course, this is all speculation now, but TSN tends to be pretty accurate with their hockey reporting.by Tub(a) - Hockey
Re: Higgins Signs With Montreal - 21 years ago
If Chris Higgins was reading this thread, he must be really confused by now I live in a small town where this reverse snobbery is quite evident. All you need to do to gain power in this place is insult a smart guy and/or profess your love for guns, trucks, and beer. It is probably more prevalent in small towns, which is why some of you may not have seen it.by Tub(a) - Hockey
Re: Central Scouting Final Ranking - 21 years ago
I think it has a lot to do with size. Hynes can be a solid grinder on a 3rd line in the NHL for years to come, even if he doesn't develop an NHL scoring touch. They might see Moulson as a perimeter player with great offensive upside, but there are lots of players like him in the draft. Several of them are bigger and have better stats. I don't think there was any discounting. I don't think theby Tub(a) - Hockey

Seems like this could be a ploy to get more HE players into the NHL...by Tub(a) - Hockey
Re: OT (sort of): Jason Kuczmanski - 21 years ago
Thus, unless two Jason Kuczmanski's live in neighboring towns, which is even more unlikely, it is the same guy. In most cases you would be 100% right, but Depew/Cheektowaga (they are indeed neighboring suburbs) both have an enormous Polish population. Kuczmanski is actually a fairly common name in Western NY. Of course, the chances are still around 95%by Tub(a) - Hockey
Re: Jamie Russell - 21 years ago
MTU was an NCAA power back in the 50's and 60's. Hopefully Jaime can bring them back. It's also nice that Cornell now has a connection with the WCHA. Its not unreasonable to assume that an exchange similar to WMU could be in our future, correct?by Tub(a) - Hockey

Re: Hosting, Small Ice, and Face Shields - 21 years ago
Highly unlikely that a player could sue over an injury sustained during a sporting event. Sports is one of the few places where the "assumption of risk" defense still operates with some force. Suing a helmet or face shield maufacturer is perhaps another story, but the player would have to show that the product was in some way defective (meaning that it did not do something which it wasby Tub(a) - Hockey
Re: Dead (or Zombie) Cheers - 21 years ago
I really don't think that's what the anonymous person was saying, Greg. I think s/he is more upset about fans outside the band telling the band what it should/shouldn't do. I really don't think anyone in the band thinks they're bigger than Lynah. Rich is correct. I don't know who this "god" person is. Please don't judge the band on this person's comments, because the comments are stupiby Tub(a) - Hockey

I thought you guys did Battlestar Galactica. Yeah, we do, but I think "Mike" was just listing conductor introduced songs. **) In both cases, songs are ultimately controlled by those people I didn't know that G-d fought for the Pep Band! Wouldn't G-d have an email though?by Tub(a) - Hockey
Re: Dead (or Zombie) Cheers - 21 years ago
CULater: You should include the rest of the sentence in your quote so I don't look like I was holding Swanee up as the supreme infallible cheer that no one should ever speak of removing I did mention other cheers in that sentence. but would you really want it to replace Swanee, Hey Bâby, or Leneveu/Underhill/Underbone? I personally don't have a problem with the cheer, but it simply didn't imprby Tub(a) - Hockey

Re: Dead (or Zombie) Cheers - 21 years ago
How about because it's stupid because the real name of the song is nothing like "Hey Hornby"? If you want to give him one of Bâby's cheers, why not Austin Powers with the line "Do I make you Hornby, baby?" replacing "Yeah, Bâby, yeah!" JTW sums it up nicely. I am going to be pushing to kill the song, because it loses the all important "clever" factor. Theby Tub(a) - Hockey
Re: Dead (or Zombie) Cheers - 21 years ago
And yet, somehow the band and the current students like and know "Swanee", which is essentially structured the same? And "Hey Bâby", which includes a reference to "kill"? Given Cornell's style of play, I would think "Fight, Maim, Kill" would be popular (especially among those who appreciate the irony play going on). "Fight, Maim, Kill" may be thoby Tub(a) - Hockey
