Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: ...Milo... - 17 years ago
Roy 82I didn't get to see Milo play too much. My lasting impression of him is the CU-Harvard game on CSTV. He skated around a Harvard defender like the defender was standing still - twice. Based on that, he will be missed. Are we that full of talent or did he do something bad? The only bad thing he did was play baseball! There is no doubt that Cornell faces recruiting challenges that the national powerhouses do not and that in prior years Schafer has gotten to the NCAA tourney, but what explains this season? A very good, if not exceptionally talented freshman class presumably with veteran leadership and the team underachieved and often brought bad hockey to a new level. THere were mistakes being made in Novemby DILLIGAF - Hockey

billhoward Just that it would be nice to have a Zach Parise type stumble into Ithaca, too. Not likely. Why would a blue-chip recruit like that come to Cornell? Because Schafer has such a great track record turning college players into pros? He has more of a reputation of driving players to the pros early because of bad systems and an inability to coach. KeithKDILLIGAFShaffer is a dinosaur and the game has passed him by. I agree. Schaffer is an awful coach and he should never work in this business again. Schafer, on the other hand... Sorry inside joke that only maybe 2 would actually get. The game has passed him by.by DILLIGAF - Hockey

The freshman were the best most talented players on the ice. It was said that Cornell gambled and lost with the freshmen. I disagree. It was the freshmen that gambled with Cornell and lost. Schaffer has no idea how to use them and has succeeded in taking proven offensive talent and severely limiting them via his systems and coaching style. Re: Quinnipiac at Cornell post-game 1 - 17 years ago
shot hit him in the ankle at Dartmouth. He was on/off crutches at harvard but had't been x-rayed and had to wait to get back to Cornell to get one. Kind of foolish to me. There are a couple of pretty decent hospitals in Boston and for that matter one in Hanover where they could have gotten an x-ray and started the necessary treatment right away instead of waiting 36 hours.by DILLIGAF - Hockey
Re: Quinnipiac at Cornell post-game - 17 years ago
redheadfanatic Any guesses on who's in goal tomorrow night? After a one goal ot loss it would be very hard to switch tenders unless that was the pattern all season. The problem is that Scrivens didn't play much early when he should have. I think had that happened, there would have been a pure rotation throughout and then a number one that you ride into the playoffs. I don't think Sby DILLIGAF - Hockey
Re: Freshman (Tony Romano) - 17 years ago
calgARI '07 I guess I don't see the comparison. Moulson has vastly superior hockey sense and really relied on his positioning and ability to find the open ice. That was the case even in his first year. Romano is far more skilled than Moulson, and his skating is miles ahead of where Moulson's was even last season, Exactly my point. Ari is absolutely right. He has the hands and he can sby DILLIGAF - Hockey

plrd78 way to go on the personal attack. I am not the one trying to be tough online like you toughguy. What are you calling me out? A Coward? Would you teach me a lesson? You are a clown. I stated objective opinions about Romano. I didn't represent them as anything other than my own and I didn't even personally attack him. I have made an educated opinion that he will not complete hiby DILLIGAF - Hockey
Re: Freshman (Tony Romano) - 17 years ago
He's more likely to get better defensively playing for Schafer than he is playing major junior. That is an excellent point. He would likely become better defensively better playing for schafer. I wasn't pointing out what he should do, but what I believe he is likely to do. He is like the bantam who has the huge slapshot who only practices the huge slapshot and never works on the deficienciesby DILLIGAF - Hockey
Re: Freshman (Tony Romano) - 17 years ago
The question I keep coming back to, though, is whether Schafer is the right coach for Milo and Romano. They're very focused on offense and I just wonder if the coach can mold their games without stifling/wasting their abilities. You hit the nail on the head. I think Milo is playing a very complete game. He does a lot of the little things that no one else is doing out there, but in the offenby DILLIGAF - Hockey
Re: Freshman (Tony Romano) - 17 years ago
Hopefully he will have 3 more years to work at it in Lynah. Not likely given that his agent was in attendence saturday night. Sorry I meant "family advisor." There are two real possiblities here. 1. He goes Major Junior as soon as they are out and he has surgery in the off-season 2. He has surgery and goes Major Junior next year. I am betting on option 1. Get in andby DILLIGAF - Hockey
Re: Freshman (Tony Romano) - 17 years ago
Tony's problem is that he has no idea how to incorporate the 4 other players on his line into the play. He is very one dimensional. He plays when he has the puck on his stick, when he loses it, he stops playing. If he ever learns how to pass he could be a very good player. At this point all he has is some speed and very good hands. He has no concept that hockey is a team game. He is very soby DILLIGAF - Hockey
