Cornell Club of Boston in Providence - 21 years ago
The Cornell Club of Boston invites all alumni from Boston and from anywhere to join us Saturday morning from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Agora Restaurant in the Westin Hotel for breakfast. The regular menu will be offered and it will work on a pay for what you order system. The Westin Hotel is one block from the Dunkin Donuts arena. Re: Providence Roll Call - 21 years ago
One question. If someone offered you a ride to Worcester, offered you a ride to Providence and offered you a place to stay, would you call their offer specious? BTW, regardless of your answer, I do have an extra ticket for Worcester for sale for both days. This goes out to anybody. Ride not included with ticket.by Tom Pasniewski 98 - Hockey
Re: Cornell-Harvard(score) - 21 years ago
I was going to give the Harvard band the benefit of the doubt and say they went back to Boston to catch a flight to Duluth to play for the women's team in their national championship game. That is a reasonable excuse. The Harvard women's team finished the season 30-3-1 and yet: ECAC Championship: Lost NCAA Championship: Lost Memorable but you can't brag until your holding (and drinking frby Tom Pasniewski 98 - Hockey
Re: Providence Tickets - 21 years ago
As far as I know, tickets are not sold separately. You have one ticket for BOTH games Saturday and one ticket for the one game Sunday. There is nothing to split for the Saturday games. Same as in Albany. One ticket for both games.by Tom Pasniewski 98 - Hockey
Boston Traffic Change - 21 years ago
Also for anyone staying with friends in Boston this coming weekend during the tournament, 12 years of construction comes to a dramatic change this week as four lanes of northbound interstate traffic through Boston shifts from above ground to below ground. I will be there plus one both days regardless. I will also be at the Friday night game in Worcester and am debating about the Saturday night game in Worcester.by Tom Pasniewski 98 - Hockey
Re: Providence Tickets - 21 years ago
Just wanted to bump this thread. The CU box office will not take phone calls. You have to call the Providence College box office or find a friend to stand in line for you. These 12 Noon starting times (12 noon Tuesday, 12 Noon Saturday, 12 Noon Sunday) are a bit awkward but do allow students and alums to see both days and not miss work or classes except for those standing in line. Re: Cost - 21 years ago
Well, Ticketmaster's fees for Worcester are higher than the convenience fee Providence is charging but what convenience is there when I can't ask where to be seated, can't be told where my seats are and have to make a long distance phone call to be told that they can't tell me. I didn't have to wait to get through but there's another reason for those who did. With Krispy Kreme opening soon in Rby Tom Pasniewski 98 - Hockey

Re: WTF??? - 21 years ago
My point here was not the second round matchup as the Committee never put that in writing and it's next to impossible to achieve. I meant that the Committee could have avoided a repeat of the HE conference championship game until the Frozen Four as was done with the other three major conferences.by Tom Pasniewski 98 - Hockey
Re: WTF??? - 21 years ago
I understand us getting Mankato. The rules never said that 1 gets 16, just that 1-4 gets 13-16 and no conference matchups. With 5 WCHA schools, the only way to avoid was to have a WCHA come to Cornell's bracket. Why Cornell's bracket couldn't have been in Worcester and thus cheaper and also avoiding the second round BU-UNH, I don't know.by Tom Pasniewski 98 - Hockey

Also I didn't put any bonus points into the mix because I've generally learned not to talk about what I don't know about. Yeah right.by Tom Pasniewski 98 - Hockey
Re: You are the Committee - 21 years ago
Well, I don't know if I found the absolutely worst case scenario but I thinks it's close. In the ECAC's, the worst case is a Cornell loss to Brown and Dartmouth. Elsewhere we assume that the higher seed wins except it makes little difference if Quinnipiac or Mercyhurst wins the MAAC as long as one of them does. Then the higher seed wins each games except for our only non-conf. opponent still pby Tom Pasniewski 98 - Hockey

CU Gathering in Boston - 21 years ago
Will be low key on Friday considering that you either: a. have to work b. have NESN on your standard cable and if neither of those apply and you care that much to read this, you should be at the games in Albany. That being said: Friday, March 21st, 3:00 p.m., Gametime: 3:30 p.m. The Sports Depot Intersection of North Harvard Street and Cambridge Street, Allston Come early to reserve a spacby Tom Pasniewski 98 - Hockey
Re: FYI - No Reentry Policy - 21 years ago
I've answered my own question on the Capital District club gathering: Here's the reception info (as much of it as I have...). It's going to be between the two games on Saturday and the set location was slated to be on the mezzanine in the windowed area at the entrance to sections 109 and 110 but the location might change. We'll try to let people know and there should be signs and whatnot. It'sby Tom Pasniewski 98 - Hockey

Oh and from the same site: March 21-22 The Hockey Fan Festival 2003 will be located at South Pearl Street, in front of the Pepsi Arena. The Fan Festival will be the place to be for college hockey's national semi-finals and national championship games. South Pearl Street will be closed down and become home to interactive games, music bands, and other fun activities for fans and families. The Empiby Tom Pasniewski 98 - Hockey

The link to the FanFest event schedule: Basically, 1:30 to 11, there will be things going on. Anybody have the scoop on CHA events or Cornell Club of Capital District events? Any decisions on bars? Why is it not Friday yet?by Tom Pasniewski 98 - Hockey
Re: Update on Exter - 21 years ago
When I'm not at Cornell hockey games, some of you know that I work for the committee that oversees all medical research at the hospital where Exter is hospitalized. That board consists of some of the best doctors in New England, some of whom are charged with his care. Doctors are extremely busy people and I often have to catch them on rounds. Today I caught up with one attending to someone nexby Tom Pasniewski 98 - Hockey
Re: Win out or get screwed for the Big Red - 21 years ago
I have no problem with a #2 seed. They deserve a #2 seed. They have had a great season (except against us). All's I'm saying is that UNH played the same HE schedule BU did and finished seven points ahead of them. UNH, while having an easier route to the title game, beat BU. Both UNH wins over BU this season were shutouts. Yet in the current scenario BU stays east and UNH goes west. There'sby Tom Pasniewski 98 - Hockey
Re: Bracketology article - 21 years ago
But before we get to changes in our RPI this weekend, there will be changes in our RPI tonight with two opponents of ours on the HE three-game schedule tonight. Most notably of course is Maine v. UMass-Amherst, Round 5 tonight and Round 6 tomorrow. Maine leads 3-1 in regular season matchups. If UMass is to beat Maine, it will probably have to come in three games with a round 7 on Saturday.by Tom Pasniewski 98 - Hockey
Conference Tournaments and Time Off - 21 years ago
Cornell is resting now and enjoying a two-week break between games and hopefully, just the standard week between the ECAC's and the NCAA's. Providence had their standard week off now (minus a day) while potentially enjoying the two-week break between HE championships and the NCAA's and a three-week break if they don't make HE finals but stilll make the NCAA's. The two-week or three-week break oby Tom Pasniewski 98 - Hockey
Re: Favorite between-period entertainment? - 21 years ago
I thought it was Sarah Hughes herself that performed at Lynah and I want to say it was Harvard/Brown weekend in the fall of 2000. Personally, for novel ways to distribute things to the crowd during intermission, I have to vote for the remote controlled blimps which float around the rink and periodically dump presumably a gift certificate or coupons into the crowd. It really gets the crowd goingby Tom Pasniewski 98 - Hockey
Re: Bracketology article - 21 years ago
We are only adding fuel to the fire underneath HE fans who think we are overrated by consistently saying over and over that we are trying to avoid Providence. Would a CHA team be easier? On paper, yes. On any given day, one can't say. We are also adding fuel to the fire by trying to figure out the easiest route to the Frozen Four. There is no such thing as a good result of not winning the ECby Tom Pasniewski 98 - Hockey
Re: Bracketology article - 21 years ago
Sorry, I knew that but didn't double check before posting. Just assumed that since Worcester was hosting the East regional for this year long before there was such a thing as a Northeast regional that the additional regional (Providence) was the Northeast. Again, meaningless.by Tom Pasniewski 98 - Hockey

No such thing as a PWR tie? - 21 years ago
Yes, there is no such thing as a PWR tie. Every tie in the pairwise rankings can be broken and every individual comparison tie is broken by the RPI but what if that's not enough?. In the North Dakota row, go across and click on Michigan (MI). Total points is tied. RPI is tied. Michigan wins the comparison according to USCHO although I find it hard to believe that TUC or COP is the seby Tom Pasniewski 98 - Hockey
