Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: 2016-1017 Season expectations - 7 years ago
After watching the Red and White scrimmage - I remain hopeful to see improvement over last year. The freshman class looked like they fit in well and showed good quickness and skill in general. Would love to hear others impressions from last night? D. Tschantz had the best move and goal of the night and was good all night. Note: Kubiak, Wedman, and Bliss were not dressed for the Red or Whiteby profudge - Hockey
Re: Women's Team 2016-17 - 7 years ago
Big Red Women start off with big Offensive display Beating Carleton 10-0 tonight. For a first outing the team showed up! I worry that we only have 5 defense-women on the roster. All the more reason to show up and cheer them on against Mercyhurst next weekend. LGR!by profudge - Hockey

I believe that it deflected off of a Cornell player in front and that our keeper had no real chance on the deflection. I did not see a high stick by Q. .by profudge - Hockey
Re: Women's Hockey 2015 - 2016 Season. - 8 years ago
Yes they thoroughly outplayed us this afternoon. BC is one of the best teams in the country and with the best individual player in Alex Carpenter. BC came into this weekend 6-0 with Carpenter the highest scorer in Hockey Easy and with 209 career points including 101 goals after Friday night. We seemed to run out of energy in second game in less than 24 hours. BC had both team speed anby profudge - Hockey
Re: 10/24 vs Ryerson - 8 years ago
Ryerson U. Rams are 5-5; all against Canadian Ontario University competition. So will be in good game shape. A good, start off, exhibition opponent.by profudge - Hockey
Re: Red-White - 8 years ago
The Red and White scrimmage had some changes in format from previous years: Almost all of the freshman were on the White team (I wondered if that was intentional or just the way the lines and defense pairings worked out?) Each shift of men and women was somewhat longer allowing for a full line change during each shift. FYI: 2 periods 30 minutes each. Ice was a bit snowy and hindered puck mby profudge - Hockey

Re: See a shrink, NJ HS tells Harvard-bound valedictorian - 8 years ago
Marty, Thank you. During my years 68-74 it seemed to be as hard as any other program. My son says he thought it was. Graduation might be about (from 2012) 380 + BA's and maybe a 12-15 BS degrees my rough estimate. But from friends who graduated Swarthmore as engineers, none had a problem with engineering grad school or admittance to them. A great summer to all. I am already hoby profudge - John Spencer Is Dead

Ryerson & Laurentian are Canadian Universities: Ryerson University in Toronto Ryerson Men's Hockey They were 18-18 last season. Laurentian University in Barrie and Sudbury Laurentian Men's Hockey They were 14-9-3 last season after going 5-23 year before.by profudge - Hockey
Re: See a shrink, NJ HS tells Harvard-bound valedictorian - 8 years ago
Better choice might be Swarthmore College with a well established (but small and excellent Engineering program) My son graduated in 2012 with a BA in Economics and a BS in Engineering. regards all for GREAT Summer!by profudge - John Spencer Is Dead

Buckles and Hilbricht each score in the third for a final total of 10 goals by this group. Oops correction: Hilbricht not part of the group so 9 total.by profudge - Hockey

THANK YOU Seniors - 9 years ago

Re: Denver @ Cornell #2. 12/6 - 9 years ago
I agree with most comments, and observe that I think the referee pair for Saturday may have been more willing to call hits after the puck has been released than what we were able to do on Friday and coaches recognized that and had us play accordingly. On Friday a good number of our hits on the fore-check were well (1/2 second or a second) after the Denver player had passed or moved the puck oby profudge - Hockey
Re: Saturday: UNO 2 Cornell 1 - 9 years ago
From today's Ithaca Journal: Tom Fleischman Cornell hits the road for its ECAC Hockey opening weekend, at Princeton and Quinnipiac, and will do so with top senior defenseman Joakim Ryan, who was hurt last weekend against Nebraska Omaha. Re: Saturday: UNO 2 Cornell 1 - 9 years ago
I thoroughly enjoyed the game - both teams came out and played hard. We missed Ryan a lot. Although power play moved the puck around well we could not finish well. UNO played two penalty killers out fairly high on our points and we then tended to play 3 players high with MacDonald or Willcox in the center where Ryan would normally be. We seldom got any one open in high slot just below thby profudge - Hockey

Re: Hockey Analytics: What Does It Mean For Cornell? - 10 years ago
The article I referenced above discusses the RFID chip in the puck, but also says for complete analysis would need a chip in each players stick also. The data being recorded for the Flyers and the author on offensive zone entry is done by a volunteer currently.by profudge - Hockey

Interesting article on movement to detailed video analytics in ice hockey: FiveThirtyEight article "The People Pushing the NHL Into the Advanced Stats Era" ERIC TULSKY ... Tracking by Schmidt and others has helped explain that a team’s entry into the offensive zone has a big impact on its shot differential.
