I remember Robbie's goal primarily because of where he was when he took the shot -- practically in the crease. I mean -- what was he doing there? He was a defenseman!by dag14 - Hockey

Beeeej dag14 How do you people remember this stuff? I am not sure what I had for breakfast this morning. Well, it helps to have seen the absurdity in person. But once you read Bill's summary from the late, lamented Hockey-L, you'll remember it forever, too. Adler was unbelieveable. He held Mackesy scoreless. Mackesy also committed 3 turnovers and Gavin managed to pick up 6 groundballs along the way. Ierlan also deserves credit for this win. He had 6 or 7 huge saves early that would have been the difference.by dag14 - Other Sports
Re: Cornell lacrosse at Brown 4/22 - 1 year ago
I had my doubts about Chase in the first half -- he had one save, giving up 6 goals. He didn't look like he was seeing the ball well. Not all of Brown's goals were his fault, however, since at least half of their goals were on plays where they beat the D or sneaked a pass inside. In the second half he made saves he didn't in the first [7 of his 8 saves were in the second half], ending up at 47by dag14 - Other Sports

Unfortunately it looks like we will never get to see the end of this game unless someone has access to a video feed other than ESPN+. The game appears in the "on demand" section but the end of the stream is the same as we enjoyed live.by dag14 - Other Sports

Unless the special COVID eligibility rules will apply to CJ, the Ivy League usually requires an academic reason to stay around for a 5th year or 9th semester. That is where it can get tricky.by dag14 - Other Sports

Re: Alumni in the pros 2022-2023 - 1 year ago
I advised a number of hockey players who turned pro before graduating over my 30+ years on the faculty. Virtually all of them graduated, it was just a question of how long it took. In the early years, guys almost always had to come back at some point to finish, mainly because most if not all colleges at Cornell require the last semester to be in residence to get a degree. Today, most playersby dag14 - Hockey

Jeff Hopkins '82 George64 Game highlights. Confirms my impression that Anish and Quint spent more time talking to each other than doing the play-by-play. I can't stand to watch them. It's the Howard Cosell school of broadcasting. Jabber, jabber, jabber. But for what it's worth, the editing of that clip was horrendous, too. Re: Manchester Roll Call - 1 year ago
The venue and the NCAA would be pretty dumb if they didn't make as many seats available as possible when two teams from the NE meet in the final on a weekend. Especially BU and Cornell -- huge alumni base in the area.by dag14 - Hockey
Re: Wrestling 2022-23 - 1 year ago
upprdeck Its too bad not enough people pay attention to the finals weekend in wrestling. Its like OT hockey but for every match I agree with this sentiment 100%. Because you never know going into the weekend when a Cornell wrestler will be on the mat, you almost have to commit to being available most of each round. I block out the entire weekend and kill time between Cornell matches in the eby dag14 - Other Sports
Re: Wrestling 2022-23 - 1 year ago
When I listened to the UNCO wrestler interview, I was impressed by his appreciation for the coaching staff, as well as his work ethic, as he acknowledged that he lost in the finals last year because he wasn't prepared. His interview sounded a lot like Vito's and Yianni's. Learning that a Cornell wrestler is his coach goes a long way in explaining his attitude, and how he worked his way to the tby dag14 - Other Sports
