Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Thanks as well... - 22 years ago
Thanks for inviting me down to sit with y'all in the 3rd - sorry i didn't bring my fellow Ivy Leaguers any luck (I still think that UNH's 4th goal was on an offside play, but whatever). But it was a fun time at my first regionals even if the Centrum Centre is a pit, was great meeting a lot of you (I'm a fricken moron and sad to say a lot of names are escaping me so I won't even try naming off thoby Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: Who Will Be Coming to Worcester - 22 years ago
I'll be there Sunday - if you see a guy in a Dartmouth jersey, it's probably me.by Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: Worcester? - 22 years ago
I already got tix, just looking to see if there's any elynah/uscho/other gatherings going on Sunday since I could be the only Dartmouth fan down at the regional.by Dart~Ben - Hockey
Worcester? - 22 years ago
I'll make it down to the games on Sunday, and assuming Cornell wins Saturday I'll be rooting for them over UNH. Are you all meeting up anywhere before/during/after the games, and would you mind a Dartmouth person hanging out with y'all?by Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: Scoreboard - 22 years ago
Not sure, but after Guadet's failed experiment Friday of starting Yacey, who was pulled after giving up 2 goals in 7 shots, Gastrock came in and played the rest of the weekend, allowing only 3 goals in 75-80 shots over roughly 150:00 minutes. I'm assuming he'll stick with Gastrock from here on out, though I suppose he could play another hunch and start Boucher against Cornell if we win the play-iby Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: Scoreboard - 22 years ago
Hmmm, so does that mean you're Dartmouth fans for the play-in game? Cause if we win that means the seniors will be playing Cornell one more time - and what's their unbeaten streak against you guys up to? 9 games? Although it looks like you won't have to face Boucher either way, as Gastrock will be getting the starting jobs for Dartmouth from here on out.by Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: All-Ivy Teams - 22 years ago
Maturo and Gillings over Harrington and Baldwin for Dartmouth? Hmmm...I could see Maturo up there even after cooling down in the last 6-8 games, but Gillings over either of the other 2 guys? I don't see it. Who voted on this thing?by Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: Are there tickets left? - 22 years ago
It's interesting, cause last year we defintiely had to pay the mandated $4 per game - this year the college decided to pick up the tab. I'm wondering how much the flap over the security at the Yale game (the students behind the penalty box were monitered and controlled extra carefully that game) caused the college to go into damage control and extend this offer to shut us up.by Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: Are there tickets left? - 22 years ago
Just curious, do students have to pay for playoff tickets at Cornell? Here at Dartmouth the President's office is picking up the tab for at least the first 600 students for each game this weekend, men's and women's.by Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: Clarkson fight clip @ eLynah - 22 years ago
that may be, but I'm still surprised that fighting majors were handed out for that - I've seen much worse get only matching minors and they're right back at it 2 minutes later.by Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: Clarkson fight clip @ eLynah - 22 years ago
10 minute majors? or do you mean the NCAA's automatic 5 min major for fighting, game dq combo? After the viewing the clip, I'm surprised any of that warrented fighting penalties. I never saw the gloves come off, and I've seen plenty of worse scrums in college hockey that ended in only roughing double minors/10 min misconducts as opposed to fighting majors/DQ's.by Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: Retired Numbers - 22 years ago
Dartmouth's lined up by number both years I've been here, assuming they'll continue to do so for the forseeable future. I know Nebraska (the big one in Lincoln, not UNO) retires jerseys of their football players but not numbers, mostly because if they retired numbers they'd have run out by now. Actually now that I think about it, I believe there is one number retired, I just forget whose.by Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: NCAA - 22 years ago
Basketball started letting more than just conference champions in because it was obvious that "purity" was producing a less-interesting, less talented tournament field than one that included at-large bids. The money didn't hurt, but wasn't the only reason. That may be, but anyone who thinks the modern basketball tournament isn't all about money, and specifically how to keep a greaterby Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: CHAMPIONS! (PART 2) - 22 years ago
I can't begin how to describe this weekend other than by stating the obvious, Dartmouth choked. As good as they played last weekend, they played that poorly this weekend. I'm gonna sleep on it before I comment too much, but here's a list of things that sucked: Dartmouth's D - who looked a step slow all night Dartmouth's O - couldn't finish anything, and hitting 3 or 4 posts didn't help either.by Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: CHAMPIONS! - 22 years ago
For what it's worth, Dartmouth should've lost tonight and given you guys at least a share of the Ivy title. Despite outshooting Princeton 45-28 or so, Dartmouth absolutely fell apart in the 3rd and OT and probably the latter part of the 2nd as well. We were fricking lucky to survive and gain the 1-1 tie. I think if it was anyone but Princeton we would've lost, fortunately Princeton was a very badby Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: ECAC sweep of 2/19 USCHO awards - 22 years ago
Hanover may be insanely small and insanely yuppy, full of professors and their 'open-minded," compassionate left-wing kids at Hanover High who have nothing better to do on national holidays but make signs like "Wage Peace" or "Where is the Secretary of Peace?" and support Ralph Nader, but I don't think crappy is a term I'd use to describe Hanover. Comeon, you're an Ivy Lby Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: YUCK...WE LOST - 22 years ago
Hey, after being the league doormat for 20 years, any title is a cherished one, Ivy or ECAC or otherwise.by Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: Everything But Anchovies - 22 years ago
I don't get it, everytime people come to Hanover they stop at EBA's, I'm guessing just cause they hear about it since they sponser sporting events. EBA's sucks though, only reason I ever eat it is cause it's the only place that delivers after midnight. There are plenty of better eating spots in Hanover, hell Rumunto's has much better pizza and their garlic knots kill any EBA's appetizer. Yeah Hby Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: Everything But Anchovies - 22 years ago
Hmmm, so I have a Cornell person telling me Hanover is crappy, meanwhile my roommate from Ithica says Ithica is crappy. Hmmm, I wonder which one is crappier? (and yes my roommate really is from Ithica)by Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: YUCK...WE LOST - 22 years ago
I suppose so, but then I'm from Big 8 Country where even though it's U of Nebraska or U of Oklahoma they go by NU and OU (and MU, KU, and CU) and where the banners read Big 8 Champion and Big 8 Tournament Champions. So as I said, maybe it's just me.by Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: YUCK...WE LOST - 22 years ago
I've always thought of Conference Champions as being the regular season winners and Conference Tournament Champions as the post-season winners, but that's just me.by Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: YUCK...WE LOST - 22 years ago
well, since you only need one win or for us to lose once, and we have that whole North Country trip coming up, I think I'll have to concede you the ECAC title. But definitely not Lake Placid.by Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: YUCK...WE LOST - 22 years ago
Don't worry Melissa, after becoming the victims of Dartmouth's first 4-point road weekend since 1980, I'm sure Yale and Princeton will give the Big Green 2 more W's and the Ivy Title this weekend. BTW, apparently the celebration on Saturday after our come from behind win against Colgate got a little out of hand - the bench behind the visitor penalty box where most of the Dartmouth team's frat brby Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: Cornell @ Vermont, Feb 16 - 22 years ago
If we suck, then what does that make you after going 0-2 against us? Congrats on blowing out UVM at the Gut, something I wish Dartmouth could claim on its resume - unfortunatly that was right when Boucher was playing his worst games of the year, letting in 3 really easy goals to lead Dartmouth to a 3-2 loss.by Dart~Ben - Hockey

Last night's game archive is finally up and running.by Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: YUCK...WE LOST - 22 years ago
If it makes you feel better you didn't really outplay Dartmouth as much as the shot totals would indicate, it's not that Cornell didn't play great but Dartmouth did as well. This was one the best college hockey game I've ever seen in person, both teams had their chances and couldn't convert until OT. Dartmouth had a few breakaways and odd-man rushes that your goalie stopped, while Cornell was pinby Dart~Ben - Hockey
