Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: Dave McKee vs. Yann Danis - 20 years ago
Ben, are you implying that you believe that Stempniak was the best goalie in the ECAC last season? No I'm implying simply that Stempniak's omission from the All-ECAC teams was proof they voted before the playoffs. He pretty much singlehandedly beat Colgate last year in the quarterfinals (4-4-8 in 3 games). Post Edited (03-03-04 16:12)by Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: All Ivy Teams Announced - 20 years ago
Quick question regarding the logic involved here...how does Ihnacak get RoY, but not get placed on either All-Ivy team? Or vice versa, how do Lewis and McKee make it onto the All-Ivy teams, but not get RoY?by Dart~Ben - Hockey

Re: Clarkson 1 Cornell 1 2nd int. - 20 years ago
No offense to you guys, but I think I have to be a Clarkson fan at this point. I'd love to see a Dartmouth-Harvard QF series even though we'd probably lose, and that can only happen if Dartmouth finishes 3rd, cause I don't see Princeton upending whoever finishes 5th. But that would be an absolutely brutal series, and the crowd would be absolutely nuts all weekend.by Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: Clarkson 1 Cornell 1 2nd per. - 20 years ago
A 3-way tie between Dartmouth, RPI, and Cornell gives Dartmouth 3rd and RPI 4th, because it looks like SLU is going to finish out of the top 8. Post Edited (02-28-04 20:53)by Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: More Stolen Cheers - 20 years ago
Ditto, this is hardly a Cornell phenomenon. Much like the newspapers during the introductions, there are plenty of other colleges/high schools that do the same. Hell, the KC Chiefs have been doing it for years after touchdowns. "We're gonna beat the hell out of you. You, you, youyouyou."by Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: Final Weekend Playoff Possibilities - 20 years ago
A) I said all my tiebreakers assumed 2 teams only. I don't have time to figure out 3/4 team ties and what combination leaves which teams on top. B) The scenario where all 4 teams end up tied for 2nd is remote. For Brown to get one point and Dartmouth 2 means a lot of very wierd results need to happen all at the same time.by Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: Dave McKee vs. Yann Danis - 20 years ago
They definitely vote before the playoffs start, or Stempniak wouldn't have gotten shafted last year (but I'm not bitter or anything).by Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: Final Weekend Playoff Possibilities - 20 years ago
Why did I think they were only 3 behind Dartmouth and Cornell? Oh well, then the race for the 4 byes is down to 5 teams, with only RPI needing help to get one.by Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: Final Weekend Playoff Possibilities - 20 years ago
Posted this on USCHO, but it fits here too (some of it has been updated). All tiebreakers are assumed to be only 2 teams. 3+ team tiebreakers I can't go through every single permutation. (And FYI, Dartmouth plays Brown on Friday, not Saturday - I notice TBRW has it switched around) Colgate has clinched a first round bye, and needs only a win to clinch the regular season title. Brown neeby Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: Quick Question - 20 years ago
No but he had a monster weekend, GTG on Friday, 3 points including the GWG on Saturday. And he even managed to hustle and play some defense.by Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: Sat 2/21: Cornell 0 at Union 3, final. - 20 years ago
Our Ivy title hopes are fairly slim still. Dartmouth has to beat Brown, but then must either tie or lose to Harvard. Stranger things have happened... What, like Dartmouth tieing Princeton then losing to Yale at home 2 years ago on Senior Night, when all they needed was 2 points to tie and 3 points to win the Ivy Title?by Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: Quick Question - 20 years ago
Were there penalties for the tennis balls last night? Looks like there are two delay of game penalties right after each of Darmouth's goals, so I'm assuming that they were called for it...USCHO is frozen right now so I can't get the recap Yes and no. Hansen called a penalty after the first goal for the tennis balls, even though there were only ~50 thrown rather than the normal hundreds/1000+. Tby Dart~Ben - Hockey
Quick Question - 20 years ago
Did you guys get penalized for throwing fish on the ice at the Harvard game? They're trying to end the tennis ball tradition here at Dartmouth, claiming that we'll get a penalty without even getting a warning after the first toss. Which is somewhat dubious considering we did it earlier in the year at the in women's game against Princeton and didn't get called for anything. I also don't know ifby Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: 2/6: Cornell 4 Dartmouth 2. Final. - 20 years ago
same player that got ejected is the player who checked cook from behind.this is why these type hits need to be turned into central place so kids who are constant offenders are identified. in pro hockey this player would have to pay the price!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm not sure what you are saying, but the guy who hit Cook (cleanly, btw, hard but clean) was Tanner Glass, the guy who got ejected wby Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: 2/6: Cornell 4 Dartmouth 2. Final. - 20 years ago
That isn't the official site (anymore - it used to be 2-3 years ago). The official site is your standard OCSN format at But they do link to the "extra" one on the top of the official men's hockey site, so it works out. And yeah, I guess the fact he waited to blow the whistle after McKee went down until we had a scoring chance is what set the crowd off. Had he blown it while the puck wby Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: 2/6: Cornell 4 Dartmouth 2. Final. - 20 years ago
goto and scroll down to Cornell the quicktime video shows the hit on Cook right at the begining and the injury to McKee at the end. I still can't tell what happened to McKee even after seeing it (not the greatest quality).by Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: 2/6: Cornell 4 Dartmouth 2. Final. - 20 years ago
Ugly game to watch, as the two absolutely horrendous turnovers in Dartmouth's own zone (I believe both by freshmen D) was the difference in the game. Once is forgiveable, twice is carelessness. And the fact that Dartmouth played like a bunch of goons isn't helping matters. Though, none of Cornell's injuries came on goon-like plays. Cook early on was hurt on a clean but hard hit on the endboardsby Dart~Ben - Hockey

Nothing in my hockey experience comes close to the US-USSR game. The Cornell 1970 NCAA championship game comes close Well, which is it?by Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: Penalties in Vermont game - 20 years ago
*The max number of ppg Cornell could have scored is 1. If they had scored before the 12:12 even-up call, then the 12:46 penalty would have given them a second pp chance beginning at 14:46, but prior to that Cornell got the 14:12 penalty. They thus would never have had the second advantage had they scored on the first one. Hence they could have scored a ppg either during 11:14-12:11 or 12:46-14:11by Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: Penalties in Vermont game - 20 years ago
Greg, True, but then in that case Cornell should've been down 2 men at one point, correct? Then Vermont still should've been 0-2 on the PP?by Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: Penalties in Vermont game - 20 years ago
There are two rules as it applies to this situation From the NCAA rulebook: A.R. 5: A1 receives a minor penalty at 1:00; B1 receives a minor penalty at 1:30, and A2 receives a minor penalty at 1:40. Team B scores a goal at 1:50. Who comes out for Team A? RULING: A2 comes onto the ice (see 4-2-c) since B1’s penalty “evened” the situation and A2 “caused” the short-handed situation that existedby Dart~Ben - Hockey

Re: 1/31: Cornell 1 Colgate 2, final - 20 years ago
Union had the benefit of John Murphy reffing. PIM's were 31-0 by the 7 minute mark of the 2nd. Murphy decided to call 3 minors, 1 major, 1 game misconduct, and 1 10-min misconduct on Dartmouth before he saw a single infraction by Union. Oh, and 29 of those 31 PIM's came in an 8 minute span. Even the asst refs got in on the action, calling penalties on things that Murphy had to have seen but didn'by Dart~Ben - Hockey

Except Dartmouth-Hahvahd is the travel partner for other Ivy Sport(s) (namely basketball, both men and women), so there is precedent for that one.by Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: Robert Morris Joins CHA - 20 years ago
Were QU to join, I'd see travel partners like this Dartmouth with Harvard Brown with Yale/QU Princeton with other Yale/QU Or you could do Brown/Princeton, but that'd add some extra time to that trip.by Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: Robert Morris Joins CHA - 20 years ago
Problem with an 11 team league is that the schedule becomes a pain in the ass. You have off-weeks throughout the season, or else some teams playing one game and others playing 2 in the same weekend - which is not a good option as evidenced by the Dartmouth siutation after UVM's hazing scandel. I see em going back to 12 if they can agree on which team to pursue (Holy Cross or Quinnipiac), any morby Dart~Ben - Hockey

Re: Game thread - Dartmouth 2 Cornell 1 (final) - 20 years ago
I see that stunt happen every once in awhile, seems like it happened at UNO games maybe once a season when I was still livin in Omaha. Usually pisses the goalie off and then some, and makes the crowd roll on the floor with laughter. And honestly, I'm not sure you can call a penalty on it, even a misconduct (I've never seen one called in previous instances). Is it actually in the rules that the wby Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: Yacey's mom has got it going on - 20 years ago
A) Jessiman's done some pretty unsportsmanlike things the last 3 games, not the least of which was mouthing off to Hansen and drawing a game misconduct at the 65:00 mark against Clarkson. The fact that he cussed at Lynah fans doesn't surprise me, he's almost turning into Boucher as far as how big of a head case he's become. As far as why I'm here, I've gotten along with the Cornell fans I've metby Dart~Ben - Hockey
