Al DeFlorio Wrote: Yes, really. The NCAA extended an auto-bid to the so-called regular season champion for six years: 1995-2000. In 2001 the NCAA stopped doing it and left it up to the individual conferences to choose the criterion for each conference's one auto-bid. My point, though, is that the NCAA didn't eliminate the possibility of the regular season champion getting an auto-bid,by Dart~Ben - Hockey

Al DeFlorio Wrote: Seems to me they dropped the auto-bid for regular-season "champion" when the two new conferences came into being. Not really. Any conference could award its automatic bid to its regular season champion if it wanted to. Hell, a conference could draw lots to see who got its automatic bid if it really wanted to. Yes and no. The difference is that the rules are different inside an arena than on a street corner or in the parking lot. Professional athletes get paid millions for the product on the court or field or rink. Part of the reason they get paid is to put up with heckling fans and not attack them in the stands. They're just ripping off Cal Tech anyway, who did roughly the same prank 20-30 years ago when USC played UCLA at the Rose Bowl. And now that Harvard went 10-0 officially, I really want the NCAA-provided timekeeper (ie he wasn't hired by Dartmouth) at the Dartmouth-Harvard game to be shot. True enough, although I will point out that Dartmouth is roughly 1/3rd the size of Cornell (4,400 undergrads to 13,600 undergrads), Hanover is helluva lot smaller than Ithaca, and hell, Cornell alone is bigger than Hanover andthe Dartmouth student body combined. And yet our arena is roughly 15-20% bigger. You could fit the entire Dartmouth student body into Thompson and it wouldn't be a sellout.by Dart~Ben - Hockey

I was biting my tongue after CowbellGuy's remarks, but enough's enough. Especially when some of your remarks are so off base it's laughable. Frankly I'm not a fan of the quarter system. Maybe it's cause I spent 13 years (including Kindergarten) on semesters, but even after all 4 years the Dartmouth schedule is just odd. Freshmen are just now showing up, graduation isn't until mid-June, and Christmas Break is basically the month of December with only 2-3 days off in January depending on what day of the week New Year's falls. Re: It has begun (or ended). - 19 years ago
This is why the NFL is the best run league in the business. Rozelle understood that the NFL itself is the product, not the individual clubs. It is in everyone's interest to remain competitive and play by the same rules, because people aren't showing up to watch the Packers play themselves. There's a decent chance I may be taking a job at Cornell (I should find out this afternoon or tomorrow), and I was wondering if you guys could help me out with some questions about finding a place to live, should I be offered the job. Re: Women's Playoff Games - 20 years ago
If Cornell wins one of those games it'll be a miracle. Harvard, Dartmouth, and SLU are heads and shoulders above Cornell, Colgate, and Yale, all should be easy sweeps. The only first round series that should go 3 games is Princeton-Brown. I will say that barring Wisconsin running the WCHA table and upsetting Minnesota, it should be SLU, Harvard, Dartmouth, and Minnesota in the Frozen Four. Ifby Dart~Ben - Hockey
