Hillel Hoffmann What disappoints me is that (Ben) has chosen to violate standard codes of conduct for sports information professionals, who are normally discouraged from partisan posts on forums like this. It's a growing problem in the profession... I'm not blameless myself -- I once let my guard down and talked about stuff related to Temple University, my current employer, on this forum. I'm just trading some friendly banter with many people whom I've shared brews with at Albany and elsewhere in the past, as I did earlier in the year. It should be pretty easy to tell my comments as an alum and fan vs. my official position (which doesn't involve men's hockey at all, btw). I apologize for leaving off the requisite that signal such intentions.by Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: Who do we want to face? - 18 years ago
redhair34If we make it to Albany, I'd much rather see Dartmouth or SLU over Sucks or Colgate. I know most people think this year it is "wide open," but in my mind only Sucks, Colgate or Cornell have a shot of winning the title. Dartmouth didn't impress me at all at Lynah. They have the weakest goaltending of the top 5 teams and are pretty undisciplined. ok, did you actually look atby Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: Dartmouth @ Lynah post game thread 2/17/06 - 18 years ago
calgARI '07Dartmouth continues to be the worst-coached team in the conference while being the most undisciplined. That worst-coached team somehow has managed a winning record against Cornell under his tenure... And speaking of undisciplined, who is that I see in fifth in the conference in PIM's, with 2.5 min/gm more than Dartmouth?by Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: Cornell at St. Lawrence post-game thread (2/11/06) - 18 years ago
CowbellGuyMy quote WAS from the NCAA rulebook, not NHL. If that's the case, then the rulebook completely contradicts itself. Wouldn't be the first time. Can I ask what section you got your quote from? I read both the actual tripping rule and the associated interpretation regarding "the diving sweep check" in back, and didn't see anything like what you quoted.by Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: Cornell at St. Lawrence post-game thread (2/11/06) - 18 years ago
calgARI '07CowbellGuyHere's another one that always drives me batty. When Seminoff got called on the trip when diving for, and getting, the puck on that partial breakaway in the third I felt like strangling someone. The rule reads: If, in the opinion of a referee, a player on a sweep or hook-check is unquestionably playing the puck and obtains possession of it, thereby tripping the puck caby Dart~Ben - Hockey

No. But there's no way they were oby Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: attendance - 18 years ago
Anyone who said it was 40% empty is either blind or looking through extremely rose-tinted glasses. Seating capacity at Thompson is 3500. SRO is another 1000, giving a total capacity of 4500. The students showed up 10 minutes into the first like usual, but they eventually showed up and filled their sections pretty well. Was it as full as last night? Eh, maybe. KeithK Wrote: Does the UAF-MSU score matter at all? I know MSU affects our RPI, but does the result of the game change anything? MSU winning knocks Vermont out of the at-large picture. If UAF wins, then Vermont's chances for the bid remain alive pending the outcome of the AHA title game. Of course a Colgate win makes it all moot - they get the bid regardless in that case.by Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: 3 ECAC bids assured - 19 years ago
Exactly, teams already hate playing the consol game 99% of the time (this year being the exception with an NCAA bid at stake), and making them play unlimited overtimes in a normally meaningless game would be cruel and unusual punishment. That said, if UVM-Gate goes to OT, when does Sneddon pull the goalie?by Dart~Ben - Hockey
3 ECAC bids assured - 19 years ago
It's just a matter of who gets the third bid. Right now here are the scenarios using a 3-2-1 bonus. Note I may be wrong, considering I originally had the CCHA Championship mattering but now it appears that it doesn't change anything. But to the best of my knowledge, here's how it shakes out. Gate gets the bid with: a win or tie UVM gets the bid with: a win AND a Quinnipiac win AND a UAby Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: Bracketology Sunday - 19 years ago
FWIW, here's how Dartmouth backs into the NCAA tourny. Bucky losing to NoDak would be big. Michigan winning the CCHA tourny is likewise a near must. Cornell or Harvard must win the ECAC tourny. NMU is likely out of the picture. Less certain on whether tOSU must lose twice or if they can win once and still leave Dartmouth in the hunt.by Dart~Ben - Hockey

Re: 3/6 (Sunday) ECAC playoffs - 19 years ago
It's not even finals, which are late this year and take place next weekend. To be fair, the student section is on the near (camera side), and from what I've heard they actually showed up all weekend (albeit 30 minutes after each game started). It was the townies who never showed up this weekend.by Dart~Ben - Hockey
Re: Scores 3/5 (Sat.) - 19 years ago
BTW, not that this prediction was a good thing, but since you all have been ripping off my posts anyway... Prediction time: OT will end in 5 minutes. Dartmouth will control the play. It's just a matter of whether or not they'll get one by Gardner before Yale gets to 3 SOG for the period. So of course, Yale scored on their 3rd SOG of OT, and while play was probably a little more evenby Dart~Ben - Hockey
