Discussions about the Cornell men's and women's hockey teams
Re: OT - "Best Sports Cities" - 19 years ago
I think they took the cities where their sales are soft and ranked them in that order. It's a cute ploy to sell issues, but -- shrug.by Greg - Hockey

Re: List of Cornell NHLers - 19 years ago
The TBRW link is working, if you have the new site. Edit 1: I have no idea why the full url isn't linking within eLynah. It's specified correctly and works fine outside eL. Edit 2: Never mind, it works now. Edit 3: It isn't updated for 2004 yet. Damn job.by Greg - Hockey
Re: Whos hot and whos not... - 19 years ago
I don't get it. 1. How many shots at the draft does a player have before he's an undrafted free agent? 2. If a player can just opt out, why didn't Eric "I hate French Canada" Lindros just opt out and save himself all the Quebecois madness?by Greg - Hockey
Re: Whos hot and whos not... - 19 years ago
The most hyped (and highest drafted) is Ray Sawada. That's probably a good first guess.by Greg - Hockey
Re: Reason #586 that Schafer rocks - 19 years ago
ECAC teams reached the championship game in 5 of 6 seasons between 1985 and 1990, winning titles in 1985 and 1989 and coming within an overtime eyelash in 1988 -- the strongest period of ECAC competitiveness ever.by Greg - Hockey
Reason #586 that Schafer rocks - 19 years ago
Nothing is guaranteed, but from the way they stack up going into this year it looks like Cornell has a great chance to finish > .500 overall for the sixth consecutive season. The Big Red have not accomplished that since 1981 (24 seasons ago), the final year of an 18 season stretch of finishes > .500. Likewise, Cornell comes into this year having finished at 4th or better in the ECAC forby Greg - Hockey
Re: Next year's line-up - 19 years ago
It isn't a matter of hating Chabot. It's a matter of observing that last year Schafer played McKee for 1929 of the team's 1942 minutes, and for the other 13 he played Marr. I assume Davenport and Chabot will each get their chance to challenge McKee in practice. Unless Davenport is really not ready, I think we'll see him played occasionally at first, and then more or less as his performance iby Greg - Hockey
Re: Tyler Mugford - 19 years ago
This will be the third consecutive year in which a player has been admitted and has deferred, right? 2002 - Glover 2003 - McKeown 2004 - Mugfordby Greg - Hockey
Re: WHA Amateur Draft - 19 years ago
According to this not very informative map: the fixed franchises are: Detroit Halifax Hamilton Miami Quebec City Toronto and the last "floating" franchise is Vancouver/Dallas.by Greg - Hockey
Re: Rumors on ECAC expansion - 19 years ago
I like the idea of a probationary period for any new member. I don't think it would impact their recruiting very much, and it would incentify them to do something other than bottom feed and bask in whatever reflected glory the ECAC offers. Not that I'm thinking of a team from Schenectady or anything.by Greg - Hockey
Re: Rumors on ECAC expansion - 19 years ago
The recent article on USCHO says the final meeting to decide will be Tuesday, 7/6, and the announcement may happen later that week.by Greg - Hockey
Re: Ivy League question - 19 years ago
Isn't that an ECAC question? I wouldn't be surprised if Harvard has more than we do. We're probably the top two by a decent margin.by Greg - Hockey
Re: Rumors on ECAC expansion - 19 years ago
There was a thread on USCHO to the effect of, "don't expect a decision before mid-July." I'd rather they taken their time and get it right.by Greg - Hockey

Still no mention of Dryden leading the 1970 team, but...by Greg - Hockey
Re: NHL Draft - Profiles - 19 years ago
Longstanding misunderstanding by our neighbors to the north. They hear NCAA and think "athletic scholarship." Harmless.by Greg - Hockey
Re: Townie Season Tickets - 19 years ago
During break it's very easy. During the stretch run it gets tough but it isn't impossible.by Greg - Hockey
Re: (OT) Reunion - 19 years ago
From talking to people of that era, the main conditioning at any point during the year consisted of the elbow bend.by Greg - Hockey

krose Wrote: At least at Harvard, he'll have the crowd he's been working hard to get. ZING! Kyle Now, now... Schafer has said many times he wants a loud, aggressive, intimidating, supportive crowd. He just doesn't want to hear "suck," "fuck," or "asshole" every fifteen seconds, and neither do a lot of us. Some fear that little Erica will be corruptby Greg - Hockey
Re: (OT) Cornell footabll player killed in car accident - 20 years ago
I can see the SCOTUS reasoning. Driving = Access the national highway system = Commerce clause = Federal regulation. The Warren court would have done it in a heartbeat. I'm not that big on state's right but, no, I don't see it -- it should stay a matter of state law. The appropriate remedy for stupid laws is to make them smarter, not turn them over to the Feds. IMHO.by Greg - Hockey
Re: Tampa Bay wins the cup - 20 years ago
It would have been nice for a Canadian team to win the last Cup of the pre-contraction era.by Greg - Hockey
Re: 04-05 recruit Tyler Mugford - 20 years ago
imagine how much more impressive McKee would be if he'd played juniors for a year last year and he came in this year as a freshman. Hard to get more impressive than .920 1.84 / .939 1.37 in conference, as a freshman. Man, it's still 5 more months...by Greg - Hockey
