Re: 2025-26 Men's Schedule - Yesterday
BearLover The Rancor BearLover upprdeck Tickets are cheap, I dont think selling them for $10 vs $20 makes a difference. Its not like lowering the price is going to bring in twice as many people. $400 season tickets is a lot for most locals. Ah yes. The local poors from down the hill. If only we had cake to eat. Yawn. What is the point of this dumb post? You’re welcome to face the realityby marty - Hockey

Swampy stereax Next week student tickets come out. Already setting my alarm for 5:30 am Tuesday. stereax Woke up at 5:30 today to ensure I'd be alive by 6 to begin the Eternal Refresh for season tickets. Plaace your bets on what time between 6 and 10 am they will drop. Whoa! Re: Why you should apply to the Hockey Beat - 12 days ago
scoop85 Trotsky What do you think of that? I gotta say, when the RPI student experience comes to mind, based on alumni I have known, "happy" isn't the first word association I'd have made. I know several RPI alums and current students, and I concur with that assessment. There is a reason there were "Tute, Love It or Leave It" tankards and glasses well into the 70's. Re: TV sports packages, streaming, ESPN+ - 19 days ago
jtwcornell91 RichH With the Four-Letter announcing their new standalone streaming service at something like $30/month, and the NFL taking 10% ownership, I’m on alert. It could mean nothing. But ESPN may not have a need to produce some ECA-whatever hockey content as they move even further down the “football/basketball are all that matter” road. In the meantime, the new service includes ESPN+.by marty - John Spencer Is Dead
Re: On-campus NCAA regionals - 19 days ago
adamw BearLoverTV ratings would surely be higher for on-campus regionals though? The atmosphere is so bad, it’s not a good tv product. I've yet to see any evidence that seeing the stands full on TV, would make more people watch the game. There's an argument to be made that it would make TV ratings worse. Since all the people who want to see it but couldn't make it, would be at the arena nowby marty - Hockey

Trotsky BearLoverWhy 5 years of eligibility when college is 4 years? That would kill the Ivy League if it happened. I have some bad news for you. It's a second chance for hockey message board lurkers. It's such an easy game - time to get that grad degree and a bit of fame. Offense, defense or defend the goal. How hard can it be?by marty - Hockey
Re: On-campus NCAA regionals - 21 days ago
Will BearLover (But I’m not sure this really helps Cornell win a national title, which is what I care about the most.) The more games Cornell gets to play at Lynah, the better. Obviously there's no guarantee Cornell will be in the top 8 or top 4 to guarantee postseason home games, but the risk seems worth it if Cornell can even get a postseason berth. I'm wondering whether the regionals areby marty - Hockey

Old Red -sorry for this "extra" post, but it kept telling me I was refused because I sound like a bot (if only I had that level of even artificial intelligence). And then it wouldn't let me delete this. The bot thing happens to me when posting from my Android phone. Trotsky ursusminor Trotsky Also I fucked up the rank order, so please note the changes (ursusmajor's reply is now OBE). Considering that I am even shorter than when I adopted the ursusminor handle, ... BTW, considering how much turnover RPI had, #12 makes a lot of sense. OTOH, I am optimistic that RPI will get to Lake Placid for the first time in ages. Your algorithm doesn't include a factorby marty - Hockey

Trotsky We are presumably not counting derps like Coulter and Maher. Regarding your derp-ometer, being a radio nut I've been sampling Ithaca's airwaves since Thursday evening. Trotsky Looks like Bright. Cut down the scoreboard, let Poors in the luxury boxes for free, and they have something. They did cut down the scoreboard from Messa and then moved it to the this gambling casino side-show - though that's not what you meant. Besides, how are the Union students to know when to cheer without it?by marty - Hockey

Will Ben Rocky '04 This seems like really strange timing to me. Makes it seem like the Whale upgrade development came with the added question of "What have you done for us lately, coach?" upprdeck I never talked to a kid who applied for it that wasn't applying to more than one school though. ED wasn't a thing in 1970 - IIRC - when I last worried about admission. If I ruled the admission committee world and found someone applying ED to two or three schools I'd not only vote no but use my veto to keep that snake out of"my" school. Dafatone RichH CU2007 Trotsky Grady is outstanding. “No doubt about it” No question about it. I just realized that this also means the end of our favorite local ads. Pour one out for the East Hill Car Wash jingle. Aw. Suds I won't drink. Smells like a citrus concoction.by marty - Hockey
Re: WHCU ends broadcast partnership with CU - 5 weeks ago
Before streaming took off I often used to set up a loop antenna in an attempt to listen to HCU at home. The results were iffy as was tuning it in on a car radio. (The TEF6686 chip found in many car radios is a great performer on both FM and AM. Only a few portable radios use this chip and that has only been for the last year or so.) I'm just east of Troy, NY. Trotsky I wonder when the tyranny of scoreboards and video will end. All hemlines change. There will come a day when this is all exposed as obscene and baroque and we go minimalism, or at least some type of nostalgic minimalist revival. (Yes, I know, likely equally cringe and rancid.) I'm holding out for a video display built into my cataract lens implant. Haven't decided which eye.by marty - Hockey

ursusminor RichH jtwcornell91 I presume Jason Moy is long gone? Last hockey content from him (uscho) is in 2023. In 2024, he was hired by someone in the semiconductor industry. His partner at WRPI, Kurt Stutt, still does RPI football. As best I can recall Kurt's last hockey game was an away game several years ago. And Kurt seems to run an erzatz TBRW.by marty - Hockey

stereax TrotskyIt's Ivy football; it's a cripple fight. Reminds me of homecoming and how literally nobody wanted to ACTUALLY go and watch the game.
