As I was driving back from Cornell on Sunday, I was thinking what an extraordinary time this is for Cornell sports. Our women's hockey team is the ECAC champions and is in the Frozen Four. Our men's hockey team is the favorite to win the ECACs this weekend, and barring a collapse, should also make it to the NCAA tournament for the second straight year. Our men's basketball team has won three straight Ivy titles and is a trendy upset pick in the 12 vs. 5 game. And our wrestling team is the Eastern champions and a legitimate contender at this weekend's NCAA tournament. I can't imagine too many other schools which have four different teams which have won championships this winter, at least several of which are legitimate NCAA contenders!

It's section 233 (behind one goal), row 1 (so no one directly in front of you)
I wanted to give first dibs to Cornellians before I post elsewhere, if anyone is interested. I paid $245 for the two tickets combined, but will take best offer.

Any official word on Cornell ticket office sale of Albany tickets? (11 replies)

I expect that as in the past, the Cornell ticket office will start selling their allocation of tickets for the ECAC championship games in Albany tomorrow morning. But in the past they didn't keep it a secret. They included information on the sale either on the 607-254-BEAR ticket office recording or it was posted online somewhere. I've searched and called, but can't locate an official announcement of the sale.

Is it the general consensus here that this sale will take place, starting at 9:00 AM tomorrow? Is the info posted somewhere, and I just missed it? Did Arthur possibly make an announcement I did not hear on Saturday night?

I'm kind of surprised I'm having this much trouble confirming that the sale is taking place.

Thanks in advance if anyone knows.

Hello everyone! As Elie mentioned, my name is Robert Schur and I am the new cowbell guy, here to introduce myself.

A little about me: I'm a sophomore history major in the College of Arts and Sceiences. Outside of Lynah and the classroom, I work as a campus tour guide and am also a newscaster, sportscaster and DJ on WVBR 93.5 FM, also serving on the station's executive committee as outgoing News Director and soon to be Vice President of Staff and Facilities.

My love of hockey runs deep, back to the years of my dad waking me up at 5:30 A.M. for house league practices on Saturday and Sunday mornings. He coached all of my teams until I finally gave up playing after freshman year of high school to focus more on academics, thus ostensibly leading to my admission to Cornell. I'm originally form Highland Park, Illinois near Chicago but have never been a fan of the Blackhawks. Dollar Bill Wirtz's refusal to put home games on television drove my dad and me to the Chicago Wolves, of the old IHL and now the AHL, winners of two Turner Cups and two Calder Cups. In the NHL, I cheer for the Tampa Bay Lightning as my grandparents live in Southwest Florida. When visiting them, my parents would bring me to their games. I actually attended my first Cornell hockey game the year the NHL was on strike at the Florida College Classic.

I am truly honored and flattered that I have been entrusted with the cowbell for the next two years. I will be traveling to as many away games as possible with some combination each time of my three closest friends who attend games with me: Nischay Rege, Mike Motley and Matt Horvath, all sophomores as well. In the event that I cannot make a game, these three gentlemen are prepared to assume duties for an evening. We practiced last night after the game with a drumstick and plastic cup that is now severely cracked.

I look forward to meeting all of you in the coming years, perhaps even in Albany next weekend.

On to Albany, where it sounds like we play game 2 if Yale wins tonight and tomorrow. LGR!

Solid all-round effort by Cornell. Rip Van Nash (2G, 1A) now wide awake from his <s>junior / much of senior year</s> [edit fixing dumb mistake:] sophomore / junior year scoring slumber (relative to what so many expected of him); loved the great effort on his second goal where I thought he had no chance because of the bad angle then - bam - in the net. Too bad Scrivens came one goal shy of a shutout. Our PP could be better but it still got one.

It's not over yet. There's still game 2 and we've shown we could choke once before in that situation (to Clarkson) after a rousing game 1 showing. But what an incredible winter season it's been so far vs. Harvard in all sports, both sexes.

I loved the idea of getting a chance to take four games from Harvard this year but was also nervous about the Cantabs' ability to break out of a slump and act, well, Harvard-like in the ECACs of this decade. (As opposed to one-and-done Harvard of the NCAAs.) Now it's looking good. Let's apply the crusher Saturday. LGR!

Camera policy in Lynah? (27 replies)

I've tried to do a bit of searching both on the forums and the Cornell Athletics site but haven't found an answer. It's probably there somewhere but I just haven't been able to find it yet. I hold season tickets in the townie sections this year and am thinking of bringing my camera to the playoff games. I've seen plenty of point-and-shoots in the stands, but not many SLRs. (There's one person I've seen periodically with an SLR that seems to be a spectator and not there in a professional fashion, but I can't be sure.)

What is the policy on cameras in Lynah? Obviously flash photography is verboten, but other than that - any other restrictions? I'm probably bringing a moderate sized lens (Sigma 18-250mm, as it's my longest optically stabilized lens, and my Sigma 50-500 is simply WAY too big to bring to a game and too slow to use that reach indoors anyway...)

Also, this is not professional work - photography is just a (very expensive) hobby for me. However, in many places, security personnel are notorious for assuming "SLR = professional".

I just upgraded to Firefox 3.6 and they are pushing browser "personas". Basically it's a stylesheet for the browser (as opposed to the content).
There's a Cornell Tower persona available from CAM. Anyone want to design a CU Hockey persona?
Driver Crashes While Shaving Genitals
Published : Friday, 05 Mar 2010, 2:48 PM CST

A two-vehicle crash in Florida happened because the driver was shaving her bikini area while her ex-husband took the wheel from the passenger seat, according to a report in keysnews.com. The incident happened at about 11 a.m. on Tuesday on Cudjoe Key when Megan Mariah Barnes' 1995 Ford Thunderbird struck a pickup from behind at about 45 mph, the report stated. Passengers in the truck suffered minor injuries. Barnes, 37, was allegedly not supposed to be driving. According to the report, she had been convicted the day before of DUI with a prior and driving with a suspended license.
Barnes is charged with driving with a revoked license, reckless driving, leaving the scene of a wreck with injuries and driving with no insurance. Her passenger, Charles Judy, was not charged.

According to the article, Barnes said she was shaving behind the wheel to get ready for a liason with her boyfriend in Key West.

A longer version of story said she nicked herself just before losing control. She also was quoted as saying "she wanted to be ready" for the visit.
