Penn's coach leaves to take over from John Chaney at Temple. Thoughts? Does this give someone else a chance to win the NCAA ticket?

Sure. Princeton. They start with P, which is the only requirement.

I just got back from the Dunphy press conference (I work at Temple). Just had to share this bizarro small world moment.

So I'm standing there on the side of the event and thinking how weird it will be to root for a guy I associate with Penn (I love Temple hoops). There are Penn players and former players walking around everywhere. Gag. I end up standing next to this guy who looks so damn familiar. Lots of people coming up and saying hi to him, especially Penn guys. Someone greets him as "Coach Donahue," and then I realize it's Steve Donahue. So I start talking to him about Ithaca stuff -- turns out he lives a few houses away from one of my parents. And then I realize that he's here because he was Dunphy's assistant and recruitingmeister at Penn for like a decade. And then I realize that he's probably one of the guys who'll be considered for the Penn job. And then my brain melted down.

That was might first thought as well when I heard this -- that Donahue would be on his way to Penn.

FYI, for those of you who, like me, are going "Donahue who?": Steve Donahue is Cornell's men's basketball coach.

It would be a shame to lose him, as Cornell's had a few strong seasons recently (for the first time in a long time, no?) under his direction.

Philly Inquirer said Donahue was in town for a second interview at Penn. He is the first candidate to get to this stage.

Alas. Cornell is not destined for basketball greatness except in odd situations, like a good coach biding his time in Ithaca until the right job comes along.

It seems like the admin is barely committed to hockey sometimes. You really think they'll try and attract talent to a non-revenue generating sport like basketball? Never gonna happen. Not in my lifetime.

Not that I want them to divert any funds from hockey anyway, mind you. :-D

How about wrestling? :-P

Actually, basketball has a reputation of being a big-time sport, whatever the reality, so I wouldn't be surprised to see a misguided administration promote it.
