Individual game threads would be good. It might clutter the forum with additional threads but by season's end they'll drop to the second page so, no harm done.

Done. Agree it makes everything easier. Who's going? I'll be there with both sons. Three laxalums. Although the younger one played for Yale:-/

That apparently same ESPN cameraperson continues to search for the lacrosse ball.

Very exciting first quarter! Army has a good defense. They swarm, so Cornell needs to keep moving the ball and finding the good shot.

That announcer has listened to too many play-by-play guys from the 1950s.

Tied 4-4. Good pass by Army for a score. Also, they've scored twice coming from the X coming from behind and scoring from the 5X5 on Ierlan's left. That move has hurt us quite a few times this year. We need to play tighter over there.

5-4 Cornell. Nice work by Long finding the (really) open player in front of the crease. In the past, players have become frustrated right about now and started trying to win the game on their own. Let's hope they stay with team ball.

As expected, a tough, hard-fought game. I don't see any superstars on Army's team but they play together on offense and defense.

I'm at the game so I'm spared the pbp guy. Army is defensively stout and we're having no luck beating their guys. Both goalies solid. Time to strap it up for 2nd half.

Very exciting lacrosse. Ierlan is playing a terrific game.

I'm convinced the cameraperson is related to an ESPN executive.

9-7. Army score on an EMO, step down from the top of the zone. The penalty was a probably an unnecessary roughness on Cascadden pushing someone out of bounds. That's twice he has done that, but I like that's he's a hard player.

Watching this score in slow motion is watching a thing of beauty. I don’t know how much was planned and how much was extemporaneous, but either way, it speaks volumes for how our team is coached.

Blake initially draws two defenders and passes to Kelleher. Blake is now open and signals for the ball, but Kelleher instead passes to Coyle, further drawing defenders away from Blake. Meanwhile, CJ, who doesn’t get a goal all afternoon, is busy drawing a double-team. Coyle passes to the wide-open Blake and the goalie reacts, so Blake dives and shoots it low and away from the goalie’s stick. Amazing play from beginning to end. Too bad ESPN+ missed this, but thankfully someone else captured it on their camera.

Absolutely. Byron Brown is a better cameraperson than the cameraperson.

I agree. I like that CJ was moving back and forth drawing the defenders and looking to pass, not score. Coyle showed terrific vision to see Blake. He took a couple of steps forward to clear a lane for the pass and hit it perfectly.

Dag14, we'll never see all the 4th quarter. It will be like the 2022 Penn State game. It lives only in the minds of the few, those happy few, that band of Cornell fans who were actually there.

I'd bet there are coach's tapes that would have a great high view from the press box side. Hopefully somethig will show up from the SID or on Youtube.

Here's a link to the Inside Lacrosse recap of the game. Some good quotes here. Coach Buczek called Blake's position next to the goal the "bagpipe." I've never heard that term before.

Edit: Maybe Coach Buczek was saying "back pipe" and it was misheard.

I think you're right. To put the term in context, the surrounding text from quoting Buczek is "and then Aiden opened up on the bagpipe and a great treat by Billy.”

Yummm.

I have not been able to find an attendance report for yesterday's game. That was quite a large crowd at Michie which remains one of the greatest sports venues in the world. Until the plug is pulled out on the electricity for the placebugeye

The official attendance was just over 4,000, but I know several people whose digital tickets weren’t scanned. I’m guessing there were a good 6,000-7,000 in attendance.

Do they publish statistics on tickets sold as well as tickets scanned?

Blake initially draws two defenders and passes to Kelleher. Blake is now open and signals for the ball, but Kelleher instead passes to Coyle, further drawing defenders away from Blake. Meanwhile, CJ, who doesn’t get a goal all afternoon, is busy drawing a double-team. Coyle passes to the wide-open Blake and the goalie reacts, so Blake dives and shoots it low and away from the goalie’s stick. Amazing play from beginning to end.
Further detail: Coyle is at X for shot back-up when Blake initiates his run and ends up falling down at GLE, passing to Kelleher on the far side. Coyle sees all this, and moves from X to up front on Kelleher's side. So Coyle knows where Blake is. I don't think Kelleher saw Blake before passing to Coyle. Happily, the Army D completely forgets about Blake, and Coyle passes to him, wide open on the doorstep. Good lax IQ by both Coyle and Blake (though I didn't love Blake's initial dodge).

The stadium or arena knows all, not just how many entered the arena bur also including the flow rate into the stadium 120, 60, 30, 15 etcetera minutes before, which gates are more heavily trafficked versus other events, etcetera.

Concessionaires at a place where they're selling $15 Bud Lights and $200 replica jerseys want to know how many people are actually in the arena. If actual physical attendance is 15,000 plus another 2,000 people bought tickets but no-showed, vendors are pissed to be told attendance was 17,000. They might know if a disproportionate number of luxury suite people came or stayed home. All this could be the case with really bad weather or the final weeks of a pro team's last-place season.

All this metrics and tracking stuff helped me out once: We went on a church or Scouts group plan -- X dollars for seat, hot dog, beer (so maybe it wasn't a Scouting event; if it was, that's the troop I wish I joined) and it was also college-students-welcome-home (Wednesday night) for Thanksgiving. We asked two Prudential people where to get the drink/food coupon and both said, Never heard of this deal, tonight is College Night. Then halfway through the first period, somebody from the Devils promotions group found us in our seats, said he's sorry we didn't pick up your food/drink coupons, and here they are. This was just after Brodeur retired so maybe they had to work harder to keep fans coming back.

Has anybody ever asked how Cornell counts attendance? I never in my four years with the the Daily Sun thought to ask that. But that was the era when attendance at Game 1, Game 2, etcetera was 3836, 3836, 3836. (Actually, it could have varied a bit with standing room, which kind of went away with the rink expansion.

I would think Cornell has 2 attendances for lynah .. They know tickets sold and they know tickets scanned. As to how many others get in unscanned it probably varies.

Attendance figures at a lot of these events is suspect. Yale lacrosse, for example, encourages you to buy your tickets online. When I got to the game Saturday, the scanner couldn't pick up the code for my ticket off my phone, so the attendant just had me show him the date on the ticket and then waved me in. So my presence was never acknowledged in the official attendance, unless Yale was just tracking by tickets sold. But since Yale students get in for free, that wouldn't give them an accurate attendance figure either.

Should be easy to do several images of the stands over the course of the game, recognize the number of people, and get a reasonable (10% margin of error? 5%?) attendee count. Make sure each game captures at the same points in the game.
