Game stats
Cornell 4 3 2 3 - 12
Brown 1 1 4 3 - 9

FO Cornell 12 Brown 12 (was Cornell 7x11 at the half)
Shots Cornell 36 Brown 49
SOG Cornell 22 Brown 21 (was Cornell 14-6 at the half)
Svs Cornell 12 Brown 10

Piatelli 3G 1A - 4pts
Petterson 2 2 - 4
McCulloch 3 0 - 3
Teat 1 2 - 3

Cornell went up 8-2 to start the third period 28 seconds in, then Brown came wihthin one goal in a near Cornell collapse that included a couple failed shot backups to retain possession plus losing FO% second half (although Brown announcer said, "Cornell has lots of people they can throw at you on faceoffs" where he intended that to mean a strength for Cornell), and better play by Brown. Jake Mcculloch put Cornell up 9-5 6 minutes into the third, then Cornell went scoreless for the next 18-1/2 minutes and Brown closed to 9-8 with 5:35 left. Cornell put in 3 in the next 3 minutes, Brown got a final goal with a second to play, and 12-9 was the final score and a sloppy victory for Cornell.

--------------------------------
Weekend's other games:
Yale 10, Albany 5, Friday
Princeton 19, Harvard 15 (Princeton now 2-3 Ivies,
Penn 22, Dartmouth 6
Standings
Penn 6-0 Ivy season finished, vs. Vermont Satruday, Wilton, Conn.
Yale 4-1 at Harvard Saturday 12 noon
Cornell 3-2 hosts Princeton 12 noon
Princeton 2-3
Brown 2-3 at Dartmouth 1:30
Harvard 1-4
Dartmouth 0-5
Brown will finish 3-3 and Dartmouth will finish 0-6. Cornell and Princeton also could finish 3-3. H2H, Cornell has beaten Brown, Brown has beaten Princeton (14-10, March 30). With a three-way tie and each team being 1-1 against the others, and 0-2 against the 1-2 teams, one of the tie-breakers can be goal-differential and something as minor as the last-second Brown goal might have an impact.

---------------------------------
[Notes before the game]
So are we feeling good about the Brown game, Saturday 12 noon in Providence? They have fallen mightily since Dylan Molloy and Lars Tiffany in 2016. (One goal loss to Maryland in NCAA semis with Molloy playing on a bad leg.)
Brown key stats:
 5-7 Overall
 2-2 Ivy
.486 FO
We want to win to help our odds of an at-large bid. Should we lose to Brown, we'd play #1 Penn in the Ivy tournament, else we wind up with Ivy #2 Yale. We could get past Penn. Past Yale? Only if we believe miracles happen back to back years. Our post-season odds, Ivy tournament or NCAAs, are being in the bracket with weaker FOGOs.

Should we lose to Brown and Princeton, season is over

Our team has as much talent as anybody for a deep run into May, and if they're going to approach that ceiling, then they will take care of business this weekend and next weekend.

I left out the unlikely but not impossible scenarios, such as Brown losing to Cornell and to currently 0-4 (Ivy) Dartmouth. Princeton and Harvard could finish 3-3 with 2 final wins, but not both since they play Saturday.

After the Notre Dame game, it's a welcome change to be able to see what's going on through a clear lens.

His two back-to-back saves were amazing.

Brown back in the game at 8-5. Let Penn back in earlier. Need to score a few.

I'll take the W, but really have not been enjoying the style of play of this season as a whole. I feel the face-off issue has forced the staff to slow down the offense into a deliberate slog. They're so afraid of not being efficient in converting their possessions that it's blunting the creativity of the players and the flow of the game.

A win is a win. I'll take it.

Also, Notre Dame beat UNC. Good for our RPI.

Actually the ND win was not so good for us:

laxreference
Notre Dame getting into the field is probably bad for Cornell. But if they do look like they are going to get in, then you guys should be rooting for them to win the ACC tournament.

Overall Cornell makes it in 39.2% of the time when ND is in the field. If ND wins the ACC tournament, Cornell's chances only rise to 43.6%. When ND misses the field though, Cornell's chances are at 50.2%.

A lot hinges on the ND/UNC game coming up. If ND wins that, the projections have them in 81.9% of the time. If they lose that game, then the projections have them in only 20.6% of the time. So you'll have a better sense of whether to don your blue-and-gold after their next game.

But now that ND has beaten UNC, we should be rooting for them to win the ACC tournament.

That's because it's not logical. It's based on rankings that fundamentally do not make sense.
