Huh? Cornell A dominates a heavyweight boat in their heat. Cornell C (lightweight development boat) with five freshmen, two sophs and a junior rowed a strong race, but came up short behind a good heavyweight boat.

No, no, the crews are GREAT -- good for them.
But good lord, the affect. It's the Westminster Dog Show with people. Come the revolution...

Flatter water today, Cornell A by a length over University of London B. Cornell leads start to finish. LGR
Really great presentation on that stream.
Is this a simple elimination bracket, and if so what round is Cornell in now?

Really impressive race, but size matters in rowing. University of London A bests Cornell A by about 3/4 length in quarter final race. According to the commentator, London outweighed Cornell by about 16 kilograms per man. This is a great Cornell crew.

That's 35 pounds in real units.
Here's a fun breakdown of why size matters, part of a fascinating discussion of the physics of rowing.

Chris Kerber has a slim lead in fan voting for USRowing Collegiate Coach of the Year. Cornell varsity lightweight 8s were IRA champions and undefeated on US waters three of the last four years. Their only defeats were against heavyweight crews at the Henley Royal Regatta.

I rowed for half a semester on the Cornell freshman lightweight crew back in the late 80s... does that qualify me as part of the "extended rowing community"?George64

I didn't begin rowing until I was 68 and retired, but I consider myself part of the "extended rowing community." Chris Kerber is an outstanding coach and deserves the support of everyone who reads this thread. VOTE NOW. LGR!

The final tally is in and Chris Kerber lost to Paul Savell by just over 100 votes (out of over 5000 votes cast). While I don't want to see our Athletic Department shamelessly hype our students and coaches for awards (e.g., Notre Dame's infamous "Theisman as in Heisman" campaign), it wouldn't have hurt if Andy Noel had sent an email to the over eight thousand financial supporters of Cornell athletics alerting them about the vote.Swampy
