There are other tickets [oss.ticketmaster.com] - you can get the full three days for for under $200 if you want to watch from the rafters.

Garrett with a 10-4 decision in his first match. Gave up a takedown late as he tried to earn points for a major decision.

Cornell & NCAA Wrestling comes to MSG in NY!
Dear Cornell Sports Fan,
Cornell's wrestling team recently finished the 2014-15 season with a fifth-place team finish, where Gabe Dean won an individual national championship at 184lbs. For 2016, the NCAA Wrestling Championships will be held for the very first time in New York's world-famous Madison Square Garden, March 17-19, 2016.
Given the Cornell wrestling team's recent success (top-five at the NCAA Championships 6 of the past 7 years) and the amazing turnout of Cornell alumni at the annual Red Hot Hockey/Frozen Apple hockey game in NYC, a huge crowd of Big Red fans is expected for the 2016 NCAA Wrestling Championships at Madison Square Garden!
Cornell must purchase NCAA Championship tickets in advance for Big Red fans, as the event sells out EVERY year! If you plan on attending next season's NCAA Wrestling Championships, please click on the below link and provide your name and number of tickets needed. For $225, there should be Jell-O wrestling thrown in, Globetrotters, or a Rangers game. Or is that what it always costs outside NYC?Chris '03

Is Cornell trying to get the NCAA tournament here again sometime, or has it become too big? We hosted in Barton in 1955 and 1964. I remember them as great experiences, especially 1955.
What would Cornell's score and placing have been this year if Garrett performed up to seed, or even placed first? Koll said he sustained a minor injury in the first round match, but the freshman he lost to had a great tournament. Garrett seems not to have improved as much as one would have hoped since his great freshman year (like Mack Lewnes, he seemed destined for a first place finish in his career), although it's also a matter of who the competition is. But is Garrett somewhat caught in between weight classes--maybe a little weak from making weight at 125 (he missed weight once earlier in the season) but not strong enough to move up to 133?
Cornell should be in competition for the championship next season, but it seems like there is always a team peaking just ahead of us--Penn State the previous few years (and in 1953), Ohio State now. Cornell's average placing in the NCAAs over the past 6 years (an arbitrary time frame, of course) is third behind Iowa and Penn State. It would be really nice to win it.

If Garrett won the championship, without any bonus points along the way, he'd have earned an extra 11 points (I think: 9 for placement (difference between 1st / 5th) and 2 for advancement (difference between 5 wins in the main bracket / 1 win and 4 consy wins). That would have been 1.5 points short of Iowa for second. There's a butterfly-flapping-its wings element in the whole thing, though, since Iowa may have scored less even with the same placement - Iowa's Gilman pinned Garrett in the consolation semis for 2 bonus points.
We would have finished in third over Edinboro if the ref awarded a stalemate or let the clock run out the final 7 seconds in neutral in Palacio's third round consolation match. The half-point from that match, plus the 2.5 he'd have received for the forfeit he'd have received in the next match, plus the three points for finishing in, at worst, 8th place would have more than made up the 4 point difference to leapfrog Missouri and Edinboro.
As for Garrett's future, staying at 125 will probably be tough but I don't think that's what cost him this year. He missed weight by, IIRC, one or two ounces, once. He then had to wrestle at 133 after trying to make the cut to 125 and was manhandled. That's not something I think happens if he spent the year training to wrestle at 133. He'll be very competitive at either weight if he isn't hurt.

We face Rutgers and Nebraska. I'm looking forward to the season. Might be a slight step back from last year - I'll probably write more later - but it is going to be a fun team to watch develop. And NCAA Champ Gabe Dean is back after opting out of a redshirt year to take a shot at the Olympics.
Anyway, I'll be there.
