"Alonzo is a rangy 6-5, 205-pound senior who leads Woodland Hills in receptions. He also had scholarship offers from Pitt, Wisconsin, Purdue, and West Virginia."
Wow...sounds like he could be the real deal in the Ivy League if he had scholarship offers from those 4.

We got Nagy, not Alonzo (who the article states is going to Cincinnati) -- but Nagy did have an offer from Pitt, apparently as a safety not a RB

I watched this to find out whether he's related to Maurice Carthon (not as far as I can tell), but noticed at the end that he's likely to get picked in the upcoming MLB draft. There's a chance we could lose him as a result, but he mentioned in the interview that he picked Cornell (presumably over bigger-name athletics programs) because he'd be able to play both baseball and football, so hopefully that preference will work to our advantage.jkahn

I did the same thing . I googled Maurice Carthon, and FWIW, Wikipedia only mentioned 1 son who had a cup of coffee in the NFL.

Hi All, First off....Richard Carthon Jr. Is not Maurice's son...I am his summer coach and went to Cornell. He is a very draftable baseball player, but will be going to college...he turned down many D-1 offers (as well as Harvard) To attend Cornell, where he will be playing both football and baseball. He may be the best athlete to attend Cornell ever. He has major league speed and strength... 4.37 in the 40 yard dash and 6.40 in the 60... he is a straight A student in the classroom as well...I am very excited to see him wearing the Big Red Jerseys starting next fall...

YouTube videos don't show the quarterback's picks and sacks. But still, what an arm. He is not going to underthrow many receivers. Videos like this suggest things really are looking up for the Big Red.

David probably has a good perspective on this. If I remember right, he played baseball while at Cornell. Funny story: I was in a packed TV lounge at High Rise 1 in 1986, watching Game 6 of the World Series. He was there too, although he probably won't remember me. During the game, he left the room for something when Mookie Wilson came up to bat and Mookie got a hit (or did something positive). Then it happened a second time. So in the 10th, we basically pushed him out of the room and held the door shut until the Mets rallied all the way back. Thanks for contributing to that historic game!!

Unfortunately, Richard Carthon has changed his college commitment and is headed to Tulane. Hopefully, the other freshmen RBs Cornell is bringing in (Hagy, Armstrong and Nacita) will do well.

He wanted to be closer to his family to attend his games, can't fault him for that. I would have liked to see his speed in the backfield. Coach Austin is a master with offenses so I look forward to seeing what plans they have to balancing their outstanding attack with a decent running threat.

In my defense, Baylor just had a QB drafted 2nd overall. Most schools can't claim that. To some people, that's enough to mean Baylor has a history of good QBs. How am I supposed to know if you're one of those people?

1pm is a fine time for a football game. Hundreds of thousands of people less resourceful than your average Cornell graduate have been tailgating before 1pm football games for decades. If Cornell homecoming attendees can't manage it, they're just not committed enough to tailgating.Chris '03
