I have no real objection to UNC ranked above Cornell after they beat Cornell early in the season, but the way polls works never fails to confuse me. I'm not sure how Syracuse deserves to be #1 but I suppose someone has to be.
In DIII, Ithaca College lost their first game of the season in overtime at RIT last weekend; they're now 8-1 and #6 in the DIII poll.
Edit to add: Hopkins is 3-4 against the toughest schedule in the country (per Laxpower's SoS rankings) and their next three games are at Duke (10-1), vs. Maryland (7-2), and at Navy (8-2). After that they've got cupcakes to finish out the season, but they've got to win one of those three games if they want to avoid what happened to Syracuse last season.

Is there a requirement that a team have an over-0.500 record to make the tourney?

In lacrosse, yes, a team must have an over-.500 record to get an at-large bid. It seems to be one of the few hard-and-fast requirements that the smoke-filled selection room can't get around, which is why 6-7 Syracuse missed the tournament last year.Jeff Hopkins '82

They've beaten Army (by 1 goal), Georgetown (by 1 goal), JHU (by 1 goal away),and Loyola (maybe not as strong as the others, but a Maryland team, which counts extra). Their only loss was to Virginia (by 1 goal).

FWIW, more than the poll above IMHO, here's the KRACH for lacrosse:

And here are all the lacrosse polls and rankings you could possibly imagine: [www.vaporia.com]
Cornell still holding on at #1 in the Wobus RPI calculation.

Have to love how the Big Red have the largest standard deviation in the top ten composite scores.
