Next Saturday's game "at Harvard" will be played at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough as part of a college doubleheader, starting at noon. The game will be televised in certain Comcast markets on CN8. Here's an email with details sent by our old pal Phil Buttafuoco:

2008 NEW ENGLAND LACROSSE CLASSIC

Tickets On Sale For April 5 Doubleheader at Gillette Stadium

Foxborough, Mass. - The 2008 New England Lacrosse Classic, hosted by Gillette Stadium and the Massachusetts Sports Partnership, brings college lacrosse to Foxborough Saturday, April 5.

In the first game, scheduled for Noon, the Division I No. 6 ranked Cornell Big Red face the Harvard Crimson. The second game will be a Division II Northeast-10 Conference game between Merrimack College, currently nationally ranked No. 6, and Bryant University, currently nationally ranked No. 7.

Ticket prices will be $13 (includes access to both games). Children two and under will be admitted free of charge. There will be no charge for parking. Tickets are available in advance via Ticketmaster or at the Gillette Stadium Ticket Office on game day. All tickets will be general admission.

"Harvard is excited to be a part of the inaugural New England Lacrosse Classic," said John Tillman, head coach of Harvard University. "This type of event will reinforce the commitment and passion that New Englanders have to the sport of lacrosse as we work together to promote the sport locally, regionally and nationally."

The NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championships will be held in New England for the first time. More information is available at www.lax2008.com. The NCAA recently announced that the 2009 NCAA championships also will be played at Gillette Stadium and hosted by Harvard, the Massachusetts Sports Partnership and the Greater Boston Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Harvard's program has a lot of Cornell connections. I knew about Tillman, but I didn't know that Harvard captain Scholl was a Cornell legacy until I read this morning's piece in the Crimson:

Wish I could be there.

Follow-up question for people who understand the New York City cable television habitat:

I'll be in New York this weekend. Is CN8 available on most Manhattan cable systems? Or maybe the better question to ask is: Is New York a Comcast town?

Someone else probably knows better than me, but I think most of it is either time warner or cablevision.

I was just trying to look into that but I would need to boot in Windoze to check. Also, they have multiple feeds and I don't know if both are on line.

Cornell-Harvard lax will be on CN8 in New Jersey, Philadelphia, Harrisburg, and "Cablevision homes"--whatever that means. Asterisk says "subject to change."

If I go to this page ( [www.cn8.tv] ), I get link that says "Watch CN8 live now."

The game notes on the CornellBigRed state that the game will be available via CN8's webcast: [www.cornellbigred.com]

This game is also being broadcast on TW here in CNY. So anyone with TW might check your listings. I checked around NYC and it doesn't look like it.

It's also listed for the New England flavor of CN8.

For what it's worth, ESPNU has a lot of NCAA lacrosse tomorrow but it's all (SHOCKINGLY) of the Southern flavor.

Speaking of "Southern flavor," I just went into the SI Vault and read their piece about the inaugural NCAA lax championship game in 1971. The title? "The Big Red Votes Itself No. 1."banana

Yikes! Army trailed Bucknell 6-0 at the half. Now 7-4 in the fourth. [Edit: now 7-4 final; not good for RPI]

Equally amazing, Navy 5, Maryland (conqueror of Virginia) 0 at the half. [Edit: Navy holds on 5-4; apparently played in a storm]

Brown 6, Yale 5 in the third. [Edit: Brown 9-8 final]

Will it be streamed on the Internet a la the Penn basketball game?

So who do you think Scholl's father and grandfather will be rooting for? If I were them, I would be hoping that Scholl plays heroically, but that the Big Red are valiant in the end.

Navy holds on for a 5-4 win over MD. Certainly will help our SOS, while the Army loss hurts a bit.

Yes - but it just switched to the lax.

Sitting at the 50 yard line and in the first row at Gillette Stadium was a rare treat. I felt closer to the action than at any other venue I have watched the team at.
