Traveling to Stony Brook?

Traveling to Stony Brook?

I'm considering making the trip from Ithaca with a couple of friends. Can anyone give me a sense about what traffic is like around the campus/stadium? I remember that it took like an hour to get from 495 to Foxboro last year. Given that we have the early game and it's a long trip, I don't want to have to get there too far before the game.

Also, any idea if there is a Cornell section? There's nothing on the Athletics site about selling tickets.

If you take 495 East until exit 58(N) then all the way up Nichols(NICHOLLS!) Rd, the traffic is usually ok if it's before noon (no one goes to church anymore). Campus is right off Nichols Rd and the stadium is just a few turns from the main gate so you don't have to worry about local traffic around the morning. However, since it's a Cornell game, you might have to consider the number of fans going at that time (give an extra 20 minutes jic).

I don't recall SB ever enforcing seating (there weren't ushers when my high school team played the LI lacrosse finals there 2 years ago), but we are the higher seed so I assume it's section 101-107. These are also the better sections b/c the concession stands are right below you and the visitor side is a further walk to the parking lot.

There is bound to be a Cornell "tailgate" so it is worth it to arrive an hour+ early to do some partying before actually watching the game. It also makes it more likely that you will get a decent parking place. Last year at Hofstra there was a great mix of current students [since they will be done with exams by then], and alumni from all over the northeast.

Judging by the overflowing trash cans at Hofstra's parking lots, event organziers woefully underestimated the amount of beverages consumed pre-game by lax fans. Like that should come as a shock to anyhone else. Let's see if the Cornell Club of LI organizes something, or Cornell U does. Cornell fell all over itself doing events for the basketball games. And they did a very nice spread for the lax finals at Gillette.
