Cornell sweeps Brown and Yale

Big wins over 2 teams who a lot of people think will be in the upper half of the league at the end of the year. We're looking really strong with a huge test next week at home against the P's.

We'll know a lot more after next weekend. With the hockey team in the North Country, I suspect Newman will be packed.

Looks like Foote is continuing to have an impact - played 21 minutes tonight and had a double-double, eleven each of points and boards. Another big scoring night for Wittman, 3-5 from 3 point range, led the team again with 18 points, and played 37 (!) minutes.

CornellFan mentioned that Yale might be without Matt Kyle, an important player for them - looks like he saw some action, playing 17 minutes off the bench and pulling down 7 rebounds.

Looks like free throw shooting was a big factor in our favor once again - we were 15-18 from the line, while Yale were just 12-24.

I watched the Yale video feed. Cornell played good defense but they were fortunate that even when Yale did get a free look they shot the ball horribly. Basketball is a simple game- one team made shots and the other didn't. Wittman had two three-pointers that were from NBA range, one of which was at the end of the shotclock. That one put Cornell up ~20 in the 2nd half and was pretty much the dagger. It was impressive that once Cornell built the big lead (18 at the half), Yale never mounted anything close to a rally. The lead was never smaller than 15 in the 2nd half and grew as large as 25 at one point.

Wittman, Dale, Foote and Hartford all impressed me and there were contributions from the others as well.

Its hard to know what to make of the P's both going 2-0 this weekend. They were at home against relatively weak competition. However, they are still the P's and Cornell needs to take care of business at home. We'll have a pretty good idea of where things stand at this time next week. However, the Big Red are clearly the league favorites at this point.
