At 125, Nickerson destroyed his opponent, taking him down twice and then tilting him for back points repeatedly until he won by technical fall, 16-0.

Mike Grey followed up with a much-closer-than-it-should-have-been win at 133. He dominated early and then got sloppy. A match he should have run away with became a see-saw battle. He ultimately prevailed 12-10, but was awarded two penalty points because his opponent kept locking his hands.

At 141, Corey Manson was definitely outclassed. The Missouri wrestler was far too strong for him - and yet he still made a match out of it, losing narrowly.

At 149, DJ Meagher damn near threw away the match by getting two straight false start penalties after two warnings ON THE SAME RESTART! He allowed the Tiger to tie the match but pulled out the victory with riding time.

Jordan Leen won a close match at 157 against the #9 wrestler in the country. It was one of the best matches I've ever seen. Almost the entire first period was spent grappling on the mat as each wrestler would gain temporary advantage but was never quite able to gain control for a takedown. The ref said that Jordan got a takedown right before the end of the period but I didn't see it. He then rode his opponent for the entire second period, escaped at the start of the third and, following a late takedown, escaped again. With riding time, he won 5-2.

165 was a weight that ordinarily Cornell would be the favorite against anyone. Mack Lewnes is the #1 wrestler in the country, but he wasn't wrestling today. In his place, against #7 Nick Marable, was the rarely seen Junior, John Basting. Basting wrestled a great goddamn match. The only points scored in the first 6:48 were the escapes each wrestler had from starting a period down. Alas, with 12 seconds left, with Basting trying to run out the clock, he got penalized for stalling. Shortly thereafter, knowing the match was over (I think) he got a little unfocused and Marable nailed him for a takedown with five seconds left and won 4-1. Even if Lewnes had not been injured, victory here was far from assured - Marable beat him three times last year.

And that's when I had to stop watching.

At 174, #5 Anceravage faced the #6 wrestler and lost 10-5; at 184, #17 Kerber faced an unranked wrestler and gave up a takedown with 15 seconds left to lose 3-2; At 197, #18 Cam Simaz faced the #4 wrestler and lost 4-3 on riding time (from the match report, it appears that Askren sat on Simaz for almost the entire second period and then ran away for half of the third); Finally at Hwt., #13 Hammond faced an unranked wrestler, who sat on him for the entire second period and escaped quickly in the third. That was enough for a 2-0 win.

Those 5 straight close matches swung the score from 14-3 Cornell to 18-14 Missouri. That has to be a huge disappointment for the team.
