Cornell-Duke (No Spoils in Thread Title)

Cornell with a lot of turnovers early, but Duke not capitalizing much. 7-6 Duke after five minutes.

They need Foote back in there.

They also need to calm down. When they're patient, they do good things.

Even if for just 10 minutes, nice to see us hang tough in that atmosphere.

Man, in the past 2 games Whitman has been solid on 3's.

They've cut the lead to two; now 22-20 Duke, and they're drawing Blue Devil offensive fouls. Good heads-up, patient play.

Tied at 22, Cornell with possession after a Duke pass goes out of bounds.

Improbably, Cornell with the 27-24 lead, 6:01 left.

30-29 Duke, Cornell with a giveaway but then a real heads-up block at the other end to prevent the fast break basket.

Cornell getting a little sloppy and not choosing shots too wisely, but drawing the foul on a turnover in Duke's end... and missing the free throw. 38-29 Duke with 1:40 left in the half.

Cornell draws the last blood of the first half with a free-throw after a Duke rebounding foul; halftime score 41-32. Totally respectable first half for the Big Red, but they need to step it up, be patient, and draw Duke off the ball if they're going to have any chance of making the last few minutes of the game matter.

good start...back to 4 point deficit. LGR!

If they speed up the game like this we're screwed.

The court level camera angles are annoying.

Nice game from Foote, but man is he gassed.

"With 10:45 to play... Duke only by ten over Cornell," says the announcer. Some good plays in the last few minutes; maybe Foote's two-handed slam got them a little riled up.

Cornell trying awfully hard, but making panicked mistakes. Still "only" an eleven point lead, which is better than I'd expected at this point in the game, but I'd love to see them make it even tighter down the stretch.

Duke with three men up for the same rebound, knocks it out of bounds; Cornell will have the ball, down 12, under four minutes left.

rofl...we might have 0 national titles and duke has 3...but we beat them 10:1 on nobel prize winners. YEAAAAA

Foote with another slam; Duke with basket interference; Dale for two, and now it's an eight-point game with 1:25 left.

What the heck is the point of showing an open 3 point attempt on a 3-on-2 fast break from 7 years ago?

...and the fouling starts. Bad shot selection by Robinson on that last Cornell possession; with less than a minute left and ten points down, you can't just hurl it up like that. Down by 11 with 32.1 left, Duke with the foul.

Too bad if the last minute is going to make it a 15-20 point final deficit. Great effort by our team to play them at 10 points the whole game.

And classy move by Donahue to give the rest of the Cornell team some playing time in Cameron. You're right, a 15-point final spread is not indicative of the whole game.

Very pleasing. Go take a look at what Duke did this year in Cameron to New Mexico State, Michigan and Wisconsin. Blowouts.

We played Duke as tough as anyone in their gym (except for Davidson).

Team is getting better and better. Good signs.

Absolutely - K could've acknowledged the gesture and put in his own scrubs to accept the resignation, but no.

Great job by CU against a much deeper team, when they were disciplined in shot selection, CU did quite well. When it turned into a scrum inside, Dook got the offensive boards and won it.

Looking forward to Ivy play!

Absolutely - K could've acknowledged the gesture and put in his own scrubs to accept the resignation, but no.

The radio announcers said the dookies put in their own subs, but to be honest I wasn't completely paying attention.

That was fun to watch.

Cornell was totally overmatched in every aspect of the game and still hung tough. Still, this team has a lot of trouble against a team that can guard the perimeter, When our long-range shooters can't spot up, they aren't very smooth off the dribble (Wittman, anyway - Gore seems able to make his own space a little better.)

Foote, who is far too awkward to play against a team like Duke ... played an amazing game against Duke. I've got to hand it to that kid, he showed a lot of guts. Robinson is fearless, but probably a little too fearless. Dale was a great leader out there.

I am very, very happy with the way this game went. They elevated their game to the competition, but I hope that they can keep it at that level. They played to the level of Quinnipiac and Colgate also, and that's not a good thing.

I can't wait for the conference schedule to start.

Gotta wonder if playing on a neutral court, or even in a place like Newman, would have helped Cornell. There are rumors that Duke may be coming up north next year, not sure if we are playing them, for Paulus' senior year.

Duke playing at Cornell in front of 4,000 would be a nice gesture by Coach K. Obviously, Duke playing Syracuse in front of 34,000 would make more sense (and cents). Then again, maybe Paulus won't want to be booed by that many people.

I don't know that these thank-you-seniors games are supposed to be tough road games. UNC came to Ithaca for Binghamton-native King Rice's senior year; today they might go to Binghamton instead (which was not yet D-I at the time).

Duke usually does not do these senior games.... but like I said, on inside information, I heard it might happen, and I know we've been talking to some other big time teams about coming to Ithaca as well.

We may also be going to Minnesota next year so Ryan Wittman can play for pops. Papa Wittman is often busy coaching the wolves and can't make many games. Mrs. Wittman was at the game last night with Ryan's sister, but Randy was unavailable to attend. His mom and dad both made the Ps road trip last season.
