Yale whipped Cornell on Friday night, which should have set up a critical Yale-Penn game for the Ivy title ... until Yale turned around and lost to Columbia.

Penn won a squeaker against Dartmouth on Saturday night and hold a 1.5 game lead over Yale. I can't see Penn losing to either Brown or Princeton so the Quakers are almost certainly going back to the NCAA tournament.

Side note: I saw that the morning line had Cornell a 1.5 dog at Brown. I would have bet my house that Cornell hadn't fallen that far. Cornell won by 12. Alas, we are 2.5 games back and there is no way that Penn loses their last three.

Keep things in perspective. This was not to be supposed to be our year.

First, by opening night we had lost our TOP 2 returning scorers to injury-Gore and Hartford.

Second, Penn returned virtually everyone from last year's championship team, including several All Ivy guys.

Third, we had four freshmen among our top eight in minutes played, a pair of those frosh are leading us in scoring.

NEXT YEAR-- we get back Gore and Hartford and add in our three recruits, two of which are transfers (Collin Robinson and Jeff Foote).

2007-2008 could be very special.

And here is the incredible part-- Dale, Wittman, Tyler, Reeves, Gore, and Robinson all have 3 more years of eligibility together. We will be a factor for years to come.

Lets just hope Coach Donahue challenges these kids with a few tough early season games to prepare for Ivy play.

Next year Yale is playing the likes of UCLA, Kansas, Stanford and Penn State among others.

I haven't lost any perspective; I know exactly where the '06-'07 team is and was. I was mostly remarking on Yale's choke job.

Well, congrats to Penn (ptoo! ptoo!); they beat Yale to clinch the Ivy title. Meanwhile, Cornell blew a 6 point halftime lead and lost to Harvard. thud

Elsewhere, ugarte still doesn't approve of a new arena for the basketball team.

Penn vs. Texas A&M. I'm probably really dumb to do this, but I'll pick Penn to beat them in my brackets just because I don't like A&M. Stupid aggies.

Go Quakers!

I usually pick Penn - even when I know I shouldn't - but I couldn't bring myself to do it this year. I typically don't take them when the other team has a superstar. Acie Law IV was the superstar this year.

I was happy to see that (IIRC) over 50% of Penn's points are graduating. Glad to see you go, Zoller and Jaaber.
