Just to put this injury into context for those who really don't follow the basketball team or its recruiting efforts--- below is the news story from Rivals.com the day Gant made his verbal to Cornell. Gant was getting pursuit from some biger basketball schools, but was only interested in academic powers. He was expected to take official visits to Stanford and Notre Dame-- but ended the process early by choosing Cornell. His commitment was supposed to be a major step towards turning Cornell into THE basketball team of the Ivy League.

Khaliq Gant, a 6-foot-3, 177-pound point guard from Tabor Academy in Marion, Mass., made a verbal commitment to Cornell. Gant is a big-time pickup for the Ivy League school and has also possesses the ability to make a huge impact right away in 2004-2005.

At one time during Gant's recruiting process, Khaliq was being looked at by Stanford, Notre Dame, Columbia, Cornell, Harvard, Yale and William & Mary.

Gant took an official visit on Sepember 20-21 to Cornell. Previously, Gant was also scheduled to visit Harvard, Columbia, Stanford, and William & Mary.

Gant averaged about 18 points per game and shot over 60 percent from three-point range last season as a junior. This past summer Gant, who hails from Atlanta, Ga., was at Peach Jam with the Georgia Stars and at the AAU Showcase and AAU Nationals with Youth Prep Stars.

Khaliq has a 3.8 GPA and has scored an 1290 on the SAT. Khaliq is also President of the Senior class.
