The last touchdown was unnecessary.

Wondering where Tillman and Tucker had seen hiding.

Agreed: let them score as much as they can. They need the confidence. I’ve been down on this team, but this was a signature win. Great for Swanstrom!

Agreed but would like Mike 1960 to opine on my view-that Wang reminds me of the late Gary Wood who I saw in the early 1960s. Great win though. I thought after the way they got pushed around by Colgate Yale would do much of the same.

I can't remember a win this big at a Homecoming Day since the Maxie Baugh and Ed Marinaro years. Nice for Coach Swanstrom to get his first game before the returning alumni at the game.

8:15 PM EDT and still no recap on the Athletics web site. Jane McNally had a story up on the Sun web site three hours ago. Yay for her!

A signature win for Swanstrom. Reminds me of the 2016 homecoming win against Yale--the turnovers, the flashy plays, Yale's lousy secondary. That team went on to defeat (ranked, in the Coaches Poll) Colgate on the road the week following. That's a cautionary tale, I suppose, and it's a shame Wang won't be on the East Hill to build around over these next few years after this one, but the future of the program looks brighter than it did in 2016 all the same.
Also, yesterday's was the first homecoming win since 2017 (Brown). Perhaps more satisfyingly, the second straight upset against preseason favorite Yale. The wins they're not supposed to get on paper are the fun ones. I suppose that's most of them. GBR.

Wow what a difference a week makes as Cornell football knocks off Yale 47-23. Great crowd too with lots of students attending with over 12K. Even with the rain hundreds of students were still packed underneath the overhang at Schoellkopf. Another tough game next Saturday vs. Albany. Go Big Red!

There have been other slow posts from Cornell athletics PR. That shouldn't be. It may be that Cornell does not have enough people to handle about 15 sports in the fall and there is fall/winter overlap come October. Writing sports is not rocket science and Cornell could turn to students who are paid or, ah, AI could do it, too. At least one other Ivy school pays a veteran sportswriter (read: old or laid off or both, or young and looking to build a resume) to write features and possibly game stories.
This seems so minor compared to the possibility townspeople in power might try to have the indoor part of Meinig Fieldhouse be grass. I think that's past.

I have to assume the Sports Information department is understaffed. It’s a shame that there’s often such a lag in the game reports. And in only a handful of the game reports (such as men’s soccer) do we ever get coach’s quotes about the game.

I think one could address concerns directly to the SID, Jeremy Hartigan, at jh295@cornell.edu. Also I have found other staff members such Laura Sgrecci, Deputy AD, to be pretty responsive too.

Am I crazy. I thought Homecoming was always (or usually) the first home game after a road game after a home game.

It's been the home opener for the past several years, even in years in which the season opener was at home (VMI in 2021, Bucknell in 2015). Last it was not was the Brown game in 2017 (which, interestingly, was the third of three straight home games).

I think having it early in the year helps a ton of the stuff they want to do around campus. Much easier to use the golf course, the weather has a better shot at being good, more local stuff to do before things shut down as well

"Am I crazy?" is apart from the second thought?Trotsky
Am I crazy. I thought Homecoming was always (or usually) the first home game after a road game after a home game.
Homecoming is often thought of as: Your team has been on the road, they come back home, so it's Homecoming. I mean, in HS, if they played two towns over, or the city school zone next to yours, then you play at your school, it's Homecoming. My city HS did not have have any sports fields so all teams practiced in a park a mile away and played at the next nearest HS, and we once played that HS for our Homecoming game.
Think also of Homecoming as not being about the home-away-home schedule but about the alumni: They come home to the U to see their team play. It also has to be early in the season so there's still some hope, and the worst you might be is 0-2. In the Ivies that are 8%-24% Tribal, you really can't do it during Rosh Hashanah or Yom Kippur. And maybe you try to pick a beatable opponent, thus Yale was not a logical good choice this year, but it turned out for the best.
