Trader Joe's coming to Ithaca

Trader Joe's coming to Ithaca

The Ithaca Voice breathlessly reports Trader Joe's is coming to Ithaca, probably, sometime. For all who made fun of Cornell Daily Sun writing in years past, this is quite the story: self-referential about the IV site crashing if it ran such news because of its momentous impact, the challenges tracking down the story, the aha! moment when the scribes realized the 774 South Meadow Street address on an application is non-existent, but a site check found an empty, nearly new, 15,000 SF building (TJ-sized) that shares the site with a former Hobby Lobby.

This is the work of not one but two writers and a photographer.

There are already TJs in Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse and Albany.

So there you have it, ladies and gentlemen. Trader Joe's is coming. Perhaps it's also a reminder that, even with the dire state of affairs with COVID-19 and the health risks, the social upheaval and the economic uncertainty, "this too shall pass." There are still things to look forward to, lights at the end of the tunnel.

In this case, the end of this tunnel comes with cookie butter and pumpkin pancake mix.

Welcome Trader Joe's!

Now fuck you.

Edit: unless they've changed their policy. In that case, welcome again.

The purpose of Trader Joe's is to bring better groceries to towns without, and not at the prices Whole Food charges. If any town already has good choices, it's Ithaca,

Now if Ithaca had a Costco ...

Ithaca is ideal.

Superabundance of rich people? Check.
Superabundance of precious people? Check.
Superabundance of white people? Check.

I love my Trader Joe's but Reston is Ithaca with better weather.

Wouldn't you trade TJ in a minute for a resurrected Royal Palms?

Honestly when you think about it, it's odd Ithaca didn't already have one.

There’s a superabundance of rich people in Ithaca?

Compared to surrounding communities, perhaps. But also, someone is paying for those Collegetown condo rents.
