Jeff Lehman, Cornell President 2003-2005, had been Dean at Michigan Law.

He was a professor of History and English Literature there for about five years before trying diplomacy, politics, and university presidency.

From wikipedia about Frank HT Rhodes:
Rhodes joined the University of Michigan faculty as professor of geology and mineralogy in 1968. In 1971, was named dean of the College of Literature, Science and the Arts. Prior to assuming the presidency at Cornell he served for three years as vice president of academic affairs at Michigan.

Cornell leans heavily on Michigan and Iowa. Hunter Rawlings and David Skorton moved to the Cornell presidency after being president at Iowa.
