Let's see if this can stir up a little internet hate between the GDIs and the fratboys...
As well-intentioned as I think this idea is, he's just trying to rename a rose. Greek houses have to take in new members each year, and all the old members know who the new members are. Call it "kumquating" if you want - there will still be the same potential for abuse (this is not a criticism of the Greek system).

Allow pledging as a not intrinsically abusive activity. Punish actual cases of abuse.
