[Off-Topic] "Sports Night" reference on Oct 30 "West Wing"

I know this is way way off topic, but this is the only community in which I remember encountering "Sports Night" fans.

Anyway, I just got around to watching the episode of "The West Wing" ("Game On";) that I taped last week while I was in Pennsylvania, and it was like a "Sports Night" mini-reunion. Not only was Joshua Malina a guest star, but he had an assistant whose name was "Elsie Snuffin". That's got to be a very obscure in-joke, since the real name of actress Kayla Blake, who played Kim on "Sports Night", is Elsie Sniffen. Well, it seemed pretty cool to me at the time. :-)

Alright, West Wing... something I can really sink my teeth into :-).

Is it just me and the people I was watching it with... or is "Elsie Snuffin" played by "Winnie Cooper". That and it's pretty obvious that she'll replace Sam/Rob Lowe, right?

Far more likely is that Josh Malina's character, Will Bailey, will replace Sam. Josh is one of Sorkin's favorite actors - he's the only one to have had a speaking role in all five of Sorkin's major successes, "Malice," "The American President," "A Few Good Men," "Sports Night," and "The West Wing."

The closest anybody else has gotten is having a speaking role in three of those five. Extra bonus Off Topic points if you can guess who.

P.S. I'm not a big fan of Danica McKellar, but I'm a very big fan of Josh Malina - so if she's part of the package, I'll deal. :-)

Is Christian Slater expected to be a long term recurring guest star or will they just kill him off after I get to like him, ala Mark Harmon?

I think that they announced a while ago that McKellar is joining the cast. I don't know about Malina.

Sorkin also seems to like giving work to the people had bit parts in Sports Night. Chris and Dave, two of the technical 'booth guys' from Sports Night both have recurring bit parts as reporters...Just last night, I noticed Will from sports night (the third tech guy) was brought on as a reporter as well.

Danica McKellar is joining WW full time? This is news to me. Maybe they can go for a Savage gf tandem and sign Tapanga...apparently she is out of work. nut

What ever happened to the rumor that she was enrolling at Cornell? Did that turn out to be just a rumor?

I heard the same rumor when I was there. Alas, not true. :( Though a friend of mine at Columbia did sit next to Shawn in Latin class....so at least one of them is well educated.

Nina Siemaszko, who I remember best as Ellie Bartlet on one episode of The West Wing, but also had roles in The American President and Sports Night.

Bingo. She was Beth Wade (Sidney Ellen Wade's sister) in "The American President," and Holly, Casey's nanny, in "Sports Night." Give that man a porn e-newsletter subscription!
