Jeez, I'm getting sick of waiting for 2:20am. ESPN2 is showing women's boxing: in pigtails and pink trunks that say "Bâby Doll" just beat the crap out of a scary-looking tatooed marine type. (Picture perky vs pissed-off.)

You should've just done what I did... take a nap until your alarm clock wakes you five minutes before the game starts.
Of course, this Friday I'm going to try something different. I'm going to go down to Nevada Smith's downtown on Thursdsay evening with a lot of cash and a couple of friends, and try to eat, drink, and hold a table until 7:25am.

Come on John, you should be used to this kind of thing. A couple weeks of this should be easy after three(?) years of listening to Cornell games from Switzerland.
The other sensible solution besides Beeeej's alarm clock is simply to let yourself sleep and watch it on tape in the morning (NBC would endorse this plan - "plausibly live".
Of course, you could just sleep through it like I did. It is, after all, just soccer.

I have had great success taping the early morning games and watching at 6am. I kept falling asleep and missing the goals when I watched the games live.

I try to avoid watching sporting events on tape unless there's no alternative. Now that the 4am CDT games are done with, it should be somewhat easier to watch live, although switching from 01:30 to 06:30 from one night to the next will be a challenge.

Hey Beeeej, you've gotta let me know how this works out. (I'd actually considered trying to watch games there if I was in NYC while the Cup was going on.) I read a newspaper column that said it was an absolute zoo for the Korea match, and I wouldn't figure it to be any less so for Poland.

This is a general world cup question. Am I to understand that ESPN will not be showing the live feed for the England v. Denmark game tomorrow, and that I will have to wait for the tape-delayed version on ABC to see it?
Just trying to plan my schedule, ABC does say that they have it, but I don't quite get what ESPN is talking about: [worldcup.espnsoccernet.com]
Hope I don't have to sit around trying not to read the score in order to enjoy the game in the mid afternoon.

Yes, AFAICT, ESPN is not doing live telecasts for ABC's two tape-delay games this weekend (ENG-DEN and IRL-ESP). You should look and see if the game is on live on a spanish-language station (e.h., Univision or Telemundo); I checked at [www.tvguide.com] and verified that one of my local stations is showing it (and its call letters start with K and not X, so I don't think it's a Mexican station).

I didn't end up going - among other things, I ended up with too much to do Thursday and on today to "waste" all of Thursday night and sleep all of today.
Of course, now I'm sitting in my apartment stewing over the fact that, yet again, it's raining hard enough that I don't want to go to Shea but probably not hard enough for a rainout. *sigh*
