Quoted, bolding added for emphasis

Dear Voice of the Fan,
The Eastern Conference of the NHL is a joke compared to the Western Conference. The Bruins are the only team that has a realistic chance of getting out of this graveyard. The West is so much more formidable. The top four seeds in the West would have to be considered favorites if matched up against anyone in the East except Boston. The Bruins will grind there way through this group of also-rans until they reach the Cup finals. The only way that Boston gets eliminated before that is if some team finds a goalie from Cornell University that ends up winning the Conn Smythe.

Since when does The Sporting News recognize hockey? I'd be surprised if anyone there knows what Butler is talking about.
What fun it was to be a Cornell hockey fan living in Boston during that Stanley Cup series!

TSN comes out with a couple hockey annuals that are good sources of college information. Other than that, they seem to ignore the college game.

I read TSN more than 30 years ago because it was the "baseball bible"...and as far as I know, they always ignored college hockey. Never did that great a job with the pros either.
Regarding Dryden's role with the Cup run, any hockey fan worth a nickel must have heard a thousand times of his background and appreciated it. I can imagine how the Bruin fans who were also college fans felt...like a nightmare revisited for them!
Of course, today's more "youthful" readers....probably have no idea
...and sadly, they probably don't care, except for those who are college fans.

I have a "100 years of hockey" special that I think was put out by sporting news. I got it a couple years ago for x-mas and I must say Cornell gets several shout outs and is the only school to receive any recognition in the mag. The perfect team, Dryden, and Harkness all received some mention in reference to Cornell. I think the editor's last name was Dryden and I figured it was Ken's son or something...or Cornell is just the shit and is the only school deserving of such mention.
p.s. im so happy i figured out how to log on again.
