Outside your boxers, hanging down your pant leg next to your schlong. It gets rather cold down there rather quickly but you'll live if you use flannel boxers. Duct tape the top of the ziploc bag to the top of your drawers 2-3 inches belong your waistband. They can pat you down all they like; I've never met an usher that will pat you there.

In 2000, I got six 5-6 inch long fish into B this way. Of course, I got yanked by the ushers, but only after I got the 5th fish off. Thankfully, they didn't escort me all the way to the door and I was able to sneak back into B via the A-B aisle. These fish worked great as I was able to get great distance with a flick of the wrist.

In 1999, I duct taped a ziploc with 2 large-ish fairly flat fish to my chest over my t-shirt under my jersey. This can work too but is far more likely to get caught in a pat down.

Other suggestions:
a) inside a large white band instrument
b) inside a rogan's box - make sure to be eating a slice with one hand with the rogans box under the other
c) under the shirt of a busty friend; once again ushers are hesistant to give a thorough pat down
d) in Grady's pocket

Finally, if you do get caught, just be friendly, smile and give up the fish. With rare exception, you'll get in if you just surrender the fish. The ushers and police are not the Gestapo; they understand you are bound to try. In return, you should respect that they don't want to ruin your fun* but that they are just trying to do their job.

*Of the two guys at the top of B-C, the taller one is one of the friendliest guys you could meet while the other, shorter one, seems to take honest pleasure in ejecting people.

The only issue I have with the article is billing it as one of the greatest rivalries in college hockey. That may be true for Cornellians, but most Harvard fans and players feel otherwise.

I would tend to disagree that HU players feel otherwise. Watching their reaction at recent games makes me think that they do care an awful lot about this game...even if it is just in response to our fanaticism. Watch their pile up after the OT goal at Bright on eLynah (errr...wait...we're in eLynah).

And what's a "Harvard fan?"

I'm gonna go with John on this one. He's a crotchety old fart who lives to harass students unless he knows you well. And it has taken me years to get to that point with him. As long as he continues to judge people before getting to know them, I don't think he's doing his job very well...

You can have whatever opinion about the guy you like, but even in the worst of times I have almost never seen a Lynah usher "harass" a student who had not done something to earn his attention in the first place. So if you find him crotchety and have suffered his judgment, perhaps you just need to be asking yourself why - whether or not you agree with the rules it's his job to enforce.

It's certainly *one of* the great college hockey rivalries (see also Clarkson-SLU, Minnesota-Wisconsin, BU-BC, UM-MSU). While Yale is Harvard's arch-enemy, make no mistake, we are their #1 hockey rival.

Carthage must be destroyed, and Harvard still sucks.

john is right about the busty friend bit. also, i've found that in general, ushers are *quite* hesitant to touch women at all -- i was barely given the once over in Yankees stadium after the terrorists attacks. same goes for concerts and the like here. So girls, and guys who have female friends/ fish mules, duct tape those fishies under the breasts (non-frozen works best), along the upper ribs, on the inside of the thighs, and on the butt. these last two will only work if you're wearing slightly baggy pants.
for those who want a loud lynah, remember, if you say that here, you're only preaching to the converted. so tell your friends.
and finally, because of my job, i can't do anything too raucous or attention-calling, so people, please, bring lots of funny signs on my behalf. you guys are awesome, and i know you'll come through. anyone for a "welcome cambridge community college" sign?

I can get the "Welcome Cambridge Community College" sign taken care of (that's a great one!!). The question is how big should it be? If it is to be noticed, it has to be kinda large, but then where do we put it? Maybe just hold (tape it) it against the glass during warm-ups? Keep the ideas for other signs coming, I'm game for making a bunch.

I've got a smaller one hanging in my room from LP last year that simply says; ANYTHING but Crimson. Can take that. Like the idea of making a smaller poster board sized sieve sign that we might be able to hang above Cruthers (sp? - too lazy to look up) or Grumet-Morris during the 1st and 3rd periods (like at BU) since there are no seats behind this location. As long as it is hung at the top of the glass it would be blocking no one's view. Just anouther idea. Ben, keep us informed about what coach says. Hopefully he is all for it. He should be since beating Harvard is one of his goals for the year.

Is there anyone else out there (I'm assuming that there are many) who gets up at the crack of dawn to go to work so that on Fridays they can take off really early and make it to games before face-off (or in this case, warm-ups)? Ahhh....what it takes to be Faithful!

"One of the greatest..."? Certainly from a Cornell fan's perspective, but my experience from having been on the other side is that the Harvard students don't rank our "rivalry" anywhere near that with Yale or BU or BC. Sure, when Cornell is good (or great) they love to beat us (just like anyone would love to beat a powerhouse), but back when they were dominating the series (mid-80s to mid-90s), there was little (or no) rivalry fever among the students. Obviously, I haven't conducted a poll of the current student body, but I do know about a dozen current students who confirm.

As for the players, I can't speak to the current group, but I spoke to many of the Crimson stars from the mid-80s to mid-90s and any special feelings they had about the games with Cornell related to the fact that they loved to "stick it" to the Faithful. They thought that although the Big Red fans were among the "best" as far as loyalty goes (and some felt that "Davy" was the best fight song in the league), they also thought the Faithful were particularly obnoxious. But as far as "getting up" for games, they were much higher for the Yale games and the Boston-area contests.

Finally, among the coaching staff only Bill Cleary had a special place for the "rivalry", but that was mostly historical. By the end of his career, he mostly thumbed his nose at Cornell (and nearly every other school).

Everything I have heard out of Harvard the last few years has been that we have supplanted their other rivals. Certianly, we were not as big a deal to them when they were murdering us every year.

It hardly matters -- this year, at least, this is The Game of the R.S. If the Crimson aren't up for it, so much the better.

I can make it to Lynah anytime on Friday to help put the sheet up, if you need it.

The talk about signs and such made me remember that for The Game in '97, the Lunatic put out a fake issue of the game program that matched the actual program page for page and sold it outside of Lynah. Besides it being one of the funniest thing I've ever seen the Lunatic do, it contained a clip-out sign as a joke. It says in big, black, boring letters: "Hey Harvard! We would appreciate it if you would lose." So I just dug it up and scanned it in...if anyone has access to a laser printer and wants to print it out for display on the glass, you can find it at: [home.stny.rr.com]

There are 2 versions. The jpeg is the original greyscale scan. I tried taking out the inksmudges by converting it to a b&w gif. Both should be ready to print to 8.5 x 11 paper. But a warning: it takes a lot of ink.

And I don't know if I violated some copyright rules, but if anyone at the Lunatic cares, feel free to yell at me.

Here's the deal with hanging the "BIG RED Country" sign. . .There are wire conduits that will suffice to hang the sign on the wall ~ problem ~ we need a ladder to get to them. It was made extremely clear to me this morning that no rink staff will help us put it up (funny b/c I never asked for their help :-). Anyhow, help is needed, anyone who is interested in doing so (Rich, Age, Melissa) just let me know. The plan is to get it up sometime Friday afternoon (anytime we can get enough people there). Oh yeah, we HAVE to find a ladder that is approx. 10-12 feet high - can anyone help out?

Age owns a ~8ft ladder that was acquired several years ago in the quest for DirecTV. I seriously doubt he'd be be willing to put it on his car and risk scratching the paint. However, I do suspect that if you asked him nicely that he'd let you borrow it were you willing to come over and pick it up.

I'd offer to help with the sign myself except that I might still be in transit from New Haven depending on when you want to put it up. If you want to wait as late as 6pm, I'll be happy to assist. I even know how to tie lots of cool knots and stuff...

(John then gets the inspiration that the Boy Scouts could become much more hip and edgy by adding a BDSM merit badge. Gives a whole new dimension to the idea of co-ed Explorer Scouting. :)

Anyway, I digress...

I know if I saw signs up long before the majority of fans showed up I would be SUPER pumped to kick some tail!!! I'll get in touch with Age and ask about the ladder. Well, I know that the band room in Barton Hall has a ladder about that height that the drum major stands on to conduct during football season. I may be presumptuous in thinking that it would be OK to borrow it...I'm just an alumnus and don't have access to that room. But I do know Chris, the pep band head manager, and I can ask him if we can use it. He usually has the band room open for report time sometime around 5:30, and it may be possible to borrow it a little beforehand, too.

Smoore-on is in Hershey and it doesn't look like he's going back to the Avs anytime soon since the other recalls to the Avs have actually produced something...goals, assists...and he didn't while he'd been there. He's not very productive, but then, neither is the team. (The just got off a 16 game winless streak) Hershey's got another game in Syracuse Friday night though I doubt anyone's interested.

Yes, Cornell comes first, Melissa.

Also, since I will be leaving Baltimore between 12 and 1, and with the storm, I have no clue when I'll get there. But if I get there in time, I'll help with the sign as well. Melissa will know when I leave and the expected time of arrival.

When Harvard was a perennial national championship contender in the late 80's, and the ECAC's were held in the Gahden just 6 T-stops and 200 feet from Harvard Square, the Crimson would pack the place with 60... even 70 fans.

I note that the featured game in this week's USCHO ECAC column is the Big Red -- Little Crimson showdown. The column picks up a bit on the "rivalry" thread here and includes the following quote:

"'It's a big thing for them,' said Harvard head coach Mark Mazzoleni when asked about the rivalry. 'Harvard has its own backyard rivalries here with Boston College, Boston University and Northeastern. Those are the traditional rivals along with Harvard and Yale, which has been a tremendous rivalry over the years. I don't know what Cornell's focus is when they play, but it seems like it's us which is fine.'"

I seem to have totally missed out on this storied Harvard-Yale hockey rivalry. I've occasionally heard people mention that there is one, but I don't ever recall hearing of a legendary Havard-Yale game or how pumped fans of either school were to be facing their arch rival. (And remember which team Erich Segal used as the Crimson's nemesis in _Love_Story_.) Maybe I should watch my tape of the Harvard-Yale ECAC GOTW last year for some insight into this.

I think there's not specifically a hockey rivalry between Harvard and yale, but there's such a huge football / academic rivalry that it could possibly be applied to all of the sports in sort of a general way. My brother was in the band at Harvard (wow, I can't believe I'm admitting that in public!) and all of their hate songs are aimed at yale. The number of people that show up for the Harvard/Yale football game every year is insane.

And the Harvard hockey game at Yale is now played in New Haven's Veterans Coliseum to handle the crowd. Something like 60,000 people were in the Bowl for this year's Y-H football game (probably more than were at all Cornell's games combined). It IS a big rivalry.

If anyone cares, here is how the Boston Globe described Lynah in their Sat morning edition:

"All this came before a chanting standing-room-only crowd at Lynah Rink, college hockey's version of Duke's Cameron Indoor Stadium, only more disrespectful. Greeted by a seafood medley of fish and lobsters tossed onto the ice by Cornell fans during pregame warmups, Harvard was then assaulted by the Big Red offense."

Does anyone know if they're on a goalie rotation or if Dov is the better goalie out of the three? If he is...he's really sucking right now...

Bump because two HARVARD SUCKS threads are better than one.

[CNN:] A former Harvard morgue manager is accused of stealing, selling and shipping human body parts, indictment says

CNN
A former morgue manager at Harvard Medical School is facing federal charges for allegedly stealing, selling and shipping human body parts, according to an indictment.

Cedric Lodge, 55, who worked at the medical school’s morgue in Boston, “stole dissected portions of donated cadavers, including…heads, brains, skin, bones, and other human remains, without the knowledge or permission of (the school) and removed those remains from the morgue in Massachusetts and transported them to his residence in New Hampshire,” the federal indictment, filed Tuesday in US District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, said.
Be careful what they throw on the ice in Cambridge.
