CU- QU game analysis

Curiously enough, I have nothing to say. QU wasn't a good enough team to use as a way to gauge Cornell's performance, so this thread is really to solicit everyone else's opinions. (And no fair for the folks in Worcester to say that they talked all about it at a bar after the game. I'm already jealous enough.)
Except: the defense was spectacular. We didn't let them anywhere near Underhill. They didn't even get BAD shots. One more to go to St. Paul.
LET'S GO RED!!!

Not being able to see the game, only rather to hear it, the feedback from a friend was that the quinnipiac player was camped out in front for the lone goal. maybe this was because we were not playing the top lines and defensive pairs, but leaving someone out in front can't happen today if we want to be in this game, UNH will eat us alive if we do.
On a positive note, the special teams and forecheck sounded PHENOMINAL
keeping up good solid pressure will be key today

I don't think this is an accurate description of the Q goal. The shot came from Underhill's left at a severe angle and was passing harmlessly across in front of the net when it hit a skate or leg, made a 90 degree turn to the right and into the goal.
It just didn't matter.

Fair enough Al, without being there to see it myself I was relying on second hand info. But like you siad it just doesn't matter. As long as we come out with intensity and intelligent play, we have a chance to rule the day

I think it is also fair to say that the way we play defense against UNH will bear no relation to the way we play defense against QU with a 6 goal lead.

I wouldn't mind leaving ONE UNH player wide open at the top of the crease with a 6 goal lead late in the third period. So long as its really late in the period.

well, that lone goal mattered enough to knock underhill up to the #2 goalie in the country, behind (*giggle*) LeNeveu

Speaking from someone who was at the game (sorry for those who couldn't make it.), I can say that the QU goal was definitely because we were saving ourselves. After the first half of the game there was almost no CU hitting, which is good...there was no need. The 3rd and 4th lines played the vast majority of the time in the latter part of the game, and basically were more concerned about not getting hurt and resting than punshing them. If this had been the final game of the weekend instead of the first, they would've had no need to save themselves, and it likely would have been 10-0 or something.
We played great when we had to, and Underhill was sharp even though he faced very few shots. This was one game where I actually felt a little guilty cheering after our goals. It felt like we were beating up on a little kid or something, I don't know...I've seen us blow people out, but never felt a need for mercy...apparently the players and coaches felt a bit the same, since they even put out the checking line on the 5 min. PP. Great game played by CU, and they should be fresh enough that the bye shouldn't matter much. Let's take it to UNH and pound them in the boards. We need a great defensive game to win today...we're not going to win a shootout...but Defense is what wins championships! LGR!!!
Unfortunately, I have to watch todays game on TV, since there was really no way I could stay due to work on Monday. It sucks, but I'll live...let's just WIN!
