I was in Ithaca in that era, but my memory of the Ithaca Stars has faded away completely. I do recognize a few of the names as Ithaca High School players. I imagine that trawling through the archives of the Ithaca Journal would turn up some information. Larry Baum may well be able to help out.

It's interesting that the Ithaca Stars are listed as "independent"

while the Auburn Cayugas of the same year are listed as NYAHL, one of two teams in the apparently short-lived New York Amateur Hockey League.

Syracuse Stars roster. One-year only?

You probably noticed that the Syracuse Eagles are listed as an AHL team same year as the NYAHL failed to flourish

I was the publicist and general manager of the Ithaca Stars for virtually their entire existence, so I can tell you pretty much anything you want to know about them.

The Stars began in the spring of 1974, as an outgrowth of a local men's hockey league. They played in a couple of tournaments that spring. In the fall, they joined with the Auburn Cayugas, the Potsdam Pioneers, and the Copper City Chiefs (Rome) to form the New York State Hockey League. The league didn't last very long, but the Stars survived for six seasons, 1974-75 through 1979-80, playing around 20 games a season against a variety of teams, including various Canadian intermediate and senior-level teams, college teams like Elmira, Army, and the Cornell junior varsity, the St. Nick's hockey club, and the Montreal Canadien Old-Timers.

Laing Kennedy coached the team for several seasons. Pete Tufford was the star player. At one time or another, the team had many other former Cornell players like Ted Coviello, Bill Duthie, Doug Marrett, Bill Murray, and Murray Death, as well as players from other colleges, like Al MacCormack (St. Lawrence), Pat Wright (Vermont), Rick Hasse (St. Lawrence), and Bob McManama (Harvard). Former Ithaca High, Ithaca College, and Cornell JV players filled out the roster, along with occasional players from Syracuse, Cortland, or wherever we could find them.
