Harvard wins, but tried hard to lose. Up 4-1 they win 4-3.

1. Yes.

2. It was always inevitable. We only needed time to get here.

Next stop, multiplying game winning likelihood during game against potential RPICH change. "Hey, that line change just moved us up 6 millionths of a point."

1) Game started late on Roku. While waiting, watched the Harvard Beanpot sights and sounds video. Pretty good pregame stuff and then terrible quality game action video (poor color correction, feed from NESN is off TV with screen crawler). A separate video of game highlights vs. Northeastern ends once Harvard is up 4-1, doesn't show the last 2 NE goals.
2) Color commentator for Harvard-Union broadcast sounds like Melissa McCarthy as Sean Spicer last week.
3) Five minutes into the game, there are not 1,000 people in the stands for a showdown of the 4 and 6 teams in the country.

Harvard a decade ago rescinded the admission offer to HS senior Blair Hornstine who sued her Moorestown, NJ HS to be the sole valedictorian, no co-valedictorian. The publicity about the lawsuit resulted in a closer look at some articles she'd published in a local paper. They were plagiarized. Admission was rescinded.

You Long Islanders are the people who think White Plains is upstate. You've already had your 15 minutes with Amy Fisher (figuratively). You've got Billy Joel, we've got Bruce. (Also Chris, for another six months.) Odds favor one of the 10 rescindees calling the Guyland home. The more I think about it, the lives of these 10 deserve to be followed by Pro Publica.

Maybe one, but those guys got pulled because they were bringing the Alt-Reich stupidity, or its ironic cousin anyway. Maybe a Brooklyn Hipster hellspawn, but more likely these were bro-ed out bros on a rocketship from Choate to whatever douche Harvard* frat Zuckerberg** bought his way into. They also smell more Masshole than Lawn Guyland. Our little dicks and dickettes (but I am willing to bet they were all male) would have been shawpping at the mawl.

Well, many years later Blair Hornstine is now a practicing lawyer in the Philly area, at the law firm she co-founded with her father (a retired NJ judge). No mention of her past lawsuit, as expected.

Over at Laxpower on the Harvard 2018 thread they're discussing the administration's current attempts to limit or actually eliminate Final Clubs as a way to reduce drinking, sexual misconduct, and elitism. There's mention of a dispute over the data used to justify such policies, with those who allegedly interpreted the data more rigorously advocating instead that Harvard focus "more on education than in banning clubs."

Boy, talk about naiveté! If Harvard started focusing more on education, it might have to make the most common grade something less than A.

Footnote: The author of the latter article is a Princeton grad.

The lawyer retained by one of the final clubs sums this current thrust in institutional governance up nicely:

“[The draft policy] exhibits a contempt for student autonomy that is breathtaking.”

Reminds me of the RPI stuff. At the same time as I think they're curiously unwilling to stand up for themselves and overwhelmingly unprepared to do so, I kind of feel bad about what "kids these days" face on so many fronts. They're caught under the whipsaw of societal trends toward greater surveillance and institutional trends toward administrative embiggening.

Considering their general herd-like habits, maybe encouraging a bit of autonomy wouldn't be such a bad thing. (Oh, wait, the point of higher education is to prepare them for the cubicle—I forget!)

Singles are left, but they have opened up SRO and most of those are available. StubHub now has 39 seats from $50 to $110. But to be fair, some of those were posted before today's single ticket sale. So I guess some Harvard season ticket holders were selling.

And StubHub has tickets for Harvard at Lynah from $100 to $166, these are from townies season ticket sales.

Snow preventing you from getting to a CU hockey game? Come on, you can make it through the white stuff. In 50+ years, only once. Go for it, just give yourself enough time. Plus 0% chance for snow Friday and Saturday in Ithaca, according to Weather Channel App.

When you are prepared to indemnify me in every way for all possible consequences of driving from Brooklyn to Ithaca and/or back in significant snow accumulation and wind-blown snowdrifts, I will accept your rallying cry. laugh

I'm not worried about this weekend at all - really more excited that it won't be like the last two times.

From here:

It is not uncommon for intended parents to say ‘I hate to say this, but I want a smart and beautiful egg donor.’

We all want the best for our children and we want them to be intelligent and accepted. We also want our children to look like they belong.

Finding the right look can be one of the hardest things for intended parents to define when they start searching for an egg donor. Your case manager will talk with you about your own physical characteristics, and help you hone in on what’s important. Maybe you want a tall egg donor because everyone in your family is tall. Your ideal may be a blonde egg donor, or a beautiful egg donor, or even an athletic egg donor.

Reminds me of a joke.

Jayne Mansfield: We should have a kid together. Imagine what the kid would be like, with my looks and your brains.

Albert Einstein: Yes, but what if the kid has my looks and your brains.

(This is probably unfair to Jayne Mansfield. I don't completely remember the name of the woman in the joke.)

Rocky II ("your good looks and your good brains - and my good left hook".)

There was a related joke in Rocky as well, but it was Rocky saying his father had told him he didn't have much in the way of brains so he'd better develop his body, and Adrian responding that was funny because her mother had told her she didn't have much in the way of a body so she'd better develop her brains.

And then the ice skating rink closed, because it was Thanksgiving, for G_d's sake.

Figured this was the best place to post this..

While walking back from dinner in Seoul tonight on the Seoullo Skywalk (Seoul's version of the High Line), I noticed an American wearing a Sucks baseball cap coming toward me. I was so tempted to tell him "Harvard Sucks" as I passed.

I didn't. But if he wasn't with his wife... moon

Funny, here in Kathmandu one occasionally sees people wearing Harvard clothing. In my mind I put them into three categories: tourists who may very well have some connection to Harvard, Nepalis who either have or aspire to have some connection, and Nepalis who wear the clothes with a sense of irony. I'm often tempted to say "sucks" when I pass them on the street, but I don't know how to say "sucks" in Nepali.

You know how they make those championship T Shirts that they hand right to the teams on the field? And how the NCAA has those shirts printed in advance for each team in the Final Four (TM)? I understand those shirts they printed for the teams that DIDN'T ultimately win go to places like Africa, Korea and Nepal as humanitarian gestures. Yep. That's probably what you all are seeing.

Searching Stubhub for ticket availability in case a classmate married to a Clarkson guy want to go to Saturday's ECAC QF game versus Clarkson. No tickets available, maybe b/c AudienceView, Cornell's third-party ticket provider got hacked and Cornell suspended sales after some students buying tix online wound up with multi-thousand-dollar credit card charges. (I assume this was not a Dyson School real world class project.) Cornell Sun story: [cornellsun.com]

Meanwhile, Stubhub offered hockey alternatives. Notice their rendition of the 3,095-seat Bright-Landry Center. (Ignoring for a moment Quinnipiac's uniform color):
