Kind of a tough stretch if you include BU last weekend considering that Princeton is a bit resurgent, Harvard is Harvard, and games against Dartmouth are always close. Most of February is against the lowest teams in the league, though

I want Suda to score a goal so bad. He's been MIP this year IMO. Didn't expect him to get nearly this much ice time.

Oh shit bad bounce and Psenikca makes it 4-0 on the backup goalie who had gone behind the net only to have the puck take a weird bounce off of the endboards.

From TBRW's Top 10 section, tonight's four goals is the largest margin of victory the Big Red has had over a #1-ranked team (dating back to 1983).

Indeed. But I only vouch for that stat in games after 1999, before that my records re: opponent's polling place are spotty.
We have now knocked off Q as a #1 four times in the last 10 seasons (not including the year we sat out).

As we reach the halfway point in the ECAC RS, reflect on the prior two seasons as potential harbingers for the second half of 2023.

Year 1st 11 2nd 11 RS
2020 9-1-1 9-1-1 1st
2022 8-2-1 4-4-3 4th
2023 8-2-1

That was a convincing win. Not because the game was lopsided, but because after tonight it’s impossible to deny this team is capable of making the NCAAs. Cornell has played some strong opposition this season (Q, Harvard, BU, UConn), and in each of these games play was at worst even (and at times tilted towards Cornell). Against weaker opponents Cornell has consistently looked like the better team.

If Q’s first deflection that beat Shane trickles into the net instead of across the crease, it’s 1-0 Q and a different hockey game. But it was a great team effort for Cornell from top to bottom.

Obviously, there’s still a long way to go, and losing tomorrow against Princeton undoes everything that happened tonight. Cornell looked so amped up the whole night that tomorrow’s game really screams out potential letdown.

I always thought “trap games” typically come before an anticipated opponent, but I guess that one could conceivably happen after one. Everyone in the league knows Princeton is getting something going by now. It doesn’t stand to be a cake walk.

From TBRW's Top 10 section, tonight's four goals is the largest margin of victory the Big Red has had over a #1-ranked team (dating back to 1983).

It also feels really great to spoil a perfect league record. Like that.

For everyone that was complaining about what they felt was an uncreative offense, what about the Bancroft attempt at the Michigan style wraparound lacrosse shot?

To actually see the situation makes that shot choice possible in real time is impressive enough; but to actually attempt it takes a set of balls.

His body language looked like he was pissed he didn't convert the chance. That's one cocky kid

Something only Brown could do:

They are on the penalty kill from the opening whistle. 2 minute bench minor for a "protocol violation"

The announcers aren't sure exactly what brown did, but protocol violations are for things like coming out of the locker room late or not clearing your guys off the ice in a timely manner.

First time I've.ever.seen this penalty in 50 years of watching college hockey.

According to the Brown website, the penalty was for staying on the ice too long during warmups. It also says that they were one of three ECAC teams assessed that penalty last night.

Sounds like the league has a new bogeyman.

So being the last guy to leave the ice is now a game of chicken.

Harvard and Yale were BOTH called for this bench minor.

I don’t know if I’d call it a trap game. Cornell knows Princeton has been good lately and the coaching staff is definitely harping on it. I do think though that Cornell expended a lot of energy and emotion last night and may not have as much left in the tank for tonight. It reminds me of Harvard losing to Colgate the after beating us in OT the night before.

Shane was nominated for the Hobey Baker the day before yesterday. When I tried to vote for him, I saw that last year’s winner was Minnesota State goalie Dryden McKay. Nothing like putting pressure on your kid from the opening bell - but I guess it paid off.

He could have been named after that town near Ithaca.

No, I guess not.

Perhaps McKay's father wanted him to have a lengthier NHL career than he had, having played one game for the Whalers.

Or Ken Dryden and the rest of Cornell's undefeated 1970 team do the same. ;-)

Dryden McKay was literally named after Ken Dryden

While Dryden is indeed named after Ken Dryden, it wasn’t Ross’ idea. Dryden was originally going to be named Dylan, but Ross and his wife Chris decided that had to be scrapped about two months before he was born.

“Dylan McKay was a character on (Beverly Hills) 90210, so we couldn’t do that,” Ross said with a laugh. “We were sitting in our office, talking about names we should do ... and she looked up on the shelf, and there was a copy of the ‘The Game’ written by Ken Dryden. It was a signed copy that somebody had given me as a gift.

“She said ‘what do you think about the name Dryden,’ and I said ‘well yeah, I think that’s an awesome name.’”

Turns out naming their son after a legendary goaltender was a better choice than Luke Perry’s famous character.

“It worked out well that my mom brought up the idea,” Dryden said with a laugh.

Ross, who played in one NHL game with the Hartford Whalers, a relief appearance in the 1990–91 season, didn’t have to push Dryden to hockey. While Ross became a chiropractor in the Chicago area after he finished playing, he was still very involved as a coach in Dryden’s younger years.

We are flying. Come on, crowd, put some balls into it. They need you to keep this up!
We wuz there, section M, opposite from the Cornell bench (townies, faculty, grizzled alums). But many students were not at Lynah. This is the last weekend before classes resume. About 500 short of a full house, 3794 announced vs. 4267 capacity. It looked right barren as the game began (photo). But the energy was there, nervous energy until we got up 3-0.
