The pairings: [www.ncaa.com]

(1) Michigan and Q in Allentown with AIC (Michigan) and St. Cloud State (SCSU)
(4) Denver-UMass and Minnesota Duluth-Michigan Tech in Colorado

Other backet
(3) WMU-Northeastern plus Minnesota-UMass in Worcester.
(2) Minnesota State-Harvard and North Dakota-Notre Dame in Albany

My guesses are:

Denver Bracket:

Denver(4) vs. Mass-Lowell(13)
Duluth(5) vs. Michigan Tech (12)

Allentown Bracket:

Minny State(2) vs. Harvard(15)
North Dakota(7) vs. Notre Dame(9)

Albany Bracket:

Michigan(1) vs. AIC(16)
QPutz(8) vs. St. Cloud(10)

Worchester Bracket:

West Michigan(3) vs.Northeastern (14)
Minnesota(6) vs. UMass(11)

The only deviation from mathematical seeding occurs because North Dakota can't meet St, Cloud in the first round. The teams in Albany and Allentown could flip but I think Notre Dame in Allentown is a bigger draw than Michigan in Allentown. Does Harvard have any pull to move itself closer to Cambridge?

Best way for Harvard to get closer to Cambridge now is to lose to North Dakota.

The Albany arena, site of the (East?) NCAA regional, is now MVP Arena. It was Times Union Center 2007-2021. I wondered for years how long a newspaper would hold naming rights to a place with more seats than the TU soon would have subscribers.

WIki
The naming rights of the arena were sold to Pepsi in 1997 and it was known as Pepsi Arena from 1997 to 2006.In May 2006, the naming rights were sold to the Times Union, a regional newspaper, and the name of the arena became the Times Union Center on January 1, 2007. In October 2021, the Times Union relinquished naming rights. On November 15, 2021, it was announced that health care provider MVP Health Services had successfully acquired the naming rights The Times Union, which is the largest newspaper for the Albany area, had declined to renew its naming rights, leading to the MVP Arena's renaming. The new name took effect on January 1, 2022.

Now that MVP Health "Services" has the naming right we're wondering what nutritious alternatives we'll see to Pepsi and curly fries. I'm hoping for hoppy craft brew.

Minn State is really tough. If they can get past that game (10%-20%??) I like their chances versus Notre Dame or North Dakota. Abruzzese line is filthy. QPac - I feel like they're going to get absolutely slapped silly by Michigan. I might even pick St. Cloud.

I'm rooting for a Q-Harvard final but I think Harvard is going to get destroyed. Like 5 goal loss territory. Not even their usual blow a three-goal lead NC$$ effort.

Albany Times Union, Sean Martin
Galajda’s arrival in South Bend was unconventional for sure as he left Cornell with 60 career wins on his resume when the Big Red did not compete last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, though he picked up a big assist from his former coach, who called Jackson to vouch for a few of his players while Notre Dame was still playing during the 2020-21 season.

“I got a call from Mike Schafer and he was calling me to recommend Matthew and a few other guys that he was trying to help find a place to go play going into their grad year,” Jackson said. “I spoke to Matthew at that time but told him I didn’t want to commit to him until our season was over. I didn’t want to make waves and Matthew was willing to wait. When the season was over, that is when we made the commitment to Matthew and it was worth the wait.”

I'm watching the Harvard game. Harvard has had a few good chances, but Minnesota State has had the balance of the O-zone time. 0-0 with 6:30 left in the 1st. MSU is a heavy team with skill, and Gibson's had to make a few terrific saves to keep it scoreless.

And a minute after I type that MSU scores off a great offensive flurry. Goal is under review for goalie interference, but it should be a good goal.

Harvard can't handle the Mavs in their own end.

2-0 MSU after a PP goal with about 2 minutes left in the 1st. Harvard is overmatched. I don't know if MSU will win it all, but they look like the best team I've seen this year.

Big turning point: up 3-0 MSU is stopped on a penalty shot. A few minutes later Harvard scores 2 goals in a minute, now 3-2 late in the 2nd period.

We distinctly disagree on the first part of your comment. I made my peace with Union and Yale winning championships; that peace is unavailable in the event that QU wins or Harvard wins another. When, hopefully soon, both of them are gone from the national tournament, my mind can be at ease. Anybody else I can pull for, at least a little.

Yet, in the absence of cataclysm last week, I found myself pulling for… Quinnipiac, it disturbs me to say. What can I say? The heart "wants" what the heart "wants." I wish the hockey gods would present us with a better menu.

But the ESPN app let me watch a half-hour or so under the espn+ tab, which was apparently a trial. If I want to continue after the trial, I guess I have to call the cable company and make an appointment to have someone come to my house in a 4-hour window a couple of weeks from now, so that I can log in and watch ESPNU? I would have thought in the streaming era that ESPN would have got rid of their propping up of cable providers.

ESPN probably makes more of their money from carriage fees than anything else. Fox makes a lot more from carriage fees than from ads. From what I understand, they don't actually need ads at all.

ESPN+ doesn’t get you access to games carried on “cable espn” - espn, espn2, espn, espnews, and some of the collegiate conference networks. You can link your espn+ to your cable account and watch the “cable espn” on what I think is still called ESPN3.

Yes, I can't help but think that, if he stayed at Cornell, we would be in this tournament

Minnesota State is so well coached. Their players seem to always make the right decision with the puck, and they’re never out of position. If I were an NHL GM I’d want to hire Mike Hastings.

Gives up one goal in back-to-back games and still doesn't get to the Frozen Four. Did all he could do.

There are some good defensive teams left but I don't see how Michigan doesn't win it all unless they have a really bad game or suffer a significant injury. Their play is on a wholly different level compared to any other team I've seen in the tournament

Q's hotshot goalie has given up 7 goals so far in two games. Playing these teams is a tougher test than a steady diet of ECAC patsies.

Lol. Well, I don’t root for Quinnipiac, but something feels off about rooting for an NHL farm team like Michigan. I don’t blame Q’s goalie for Michigan’s goals, BTW. The goals came from some combination of Q losing out on 50/50 pucks in front of the net, Q giving up a breakaway while on the PP, and Michigan’s skill.

Quinnipiac gave it the old college try in the third period, to 4-3, and they have to be thinking about the SHG they gave up late in the second period. The West and Midwest got screwed with the final four in Boston. They'll manage.

The story of the game was Pecknold pulling the goalie down one goal with four entire minutes remaining. Q was dominating, and Pecknold handed Michigan an easy out to ice the game. It looked like a questionable decision in the moment and Michigan made it look outright stupid by scoring less than 30 seconds later.

Didn’t someone in one of these messages within the last two weeks praise pecknold for pulling the goalie early and getting back in to the game? I thought i saw it. If not, my apologies. (I agree tho, way too early).

I’m too lazy to try to see where it was mentioned.

Well, that was then.
When Q got the PP with what, 6 minutes to play, I did wonder if Pecknold would try for a 6x4 advantage to show the world he was playing by a different set of coaching rules.

I was disappointed that the broadcast crew hadn't watched the tape of the ECAC Championship Game and didn't know that Rand Pecknold succeeded with that move last weekend in Lake Placid.

i think you have to also look at how you are playing and who you are playing.. when you just generated tons of chances 5x5 and you are playing a team that can light you up in a moment too much time. down 2-3 that late is one thing. down 1 when you just scored 3 and mich is scrambling no reason yet.

Not doubting that you thought this at the time but tbh this is always going to be evaluated based on result. There is no *perfect* time to pull and the stakes are very high. Your odds of scoring against Michigan at even strength in any particular 4 minute period - especially one where Michigan is going to be taking very few risks - are low. As a coach, you kind of have to go with your gut and hope for the best.

Hindsight on the part of fans is 20/20.

Duffy Daugherty, football coach of Michigan State in the Eisenhower-to-Nixon era, said (paraphrasing), "On Monday morning, anybody can tell me what play to run that works. On Saturday, I have 25 seconds to get it right, 50 times a game."

Maybe Pecknold was swayed recalling Clarkson get two extra-attacker goals in 3 minutes last December against, ah, Cornell, completing a comeback from 4-0 down.

when you are down multiple goals. you need to make something happen.. When you have not score much all game you need to make something happen.. When you have scored 3 in like 6 Min why do you think you need force the issue. It may work it may not.. but the more skilled the team you are playing against the more chances they will score and as it turned out they scored 3 times..

Here's what Pecknold said about pulling the goalie, as quoted in New Haven Register:

With 3:57 left, after Michigan goalie Erik Portillo had made a few of his 30 saves in quick succession, Quinnipiac pulled St. Cyr for an extra attacker. Pecknold likes to pull his goalie early, did it even earlier in the ECAC final.
“It works out more than it doesn’t for us. We’ve had a lot of success with it. The guys know it. They want it. They feel confident,” Pecknold said.
“We could’ve scored, and I would look smart right now, but obviously I don’t.”

Also, since I hadn't watched the game, I didn't realize that he pulled his star goalie Perets after two periods, with Quinnipiac trailing 4-0. Also from the Register:

After allowing three goals only three times in 35 regular-season games, Quinnipiac let in at least three goals four times in six playoff games. Its two games here, including Friday’s 5-4 win over St. Cloud State, were the only two times it surrendered four.
