Unless Shane gets hot & takes over, I think we now have a goaltending problem.

Howe looked great until he got hurt and he's only a freshman. I feel good about him, generally speaking.

I don't know if I feel good about him this season.

The star goalie and most of the offensive talent defected when the season got cancelled, so can't say this is especially surprising.

We have Remington Keoppel coming in next year so hopefully between him, Howe, and Shane we will find out next anchor. And if not, whatever systemic advantages have led great goaltenders to Cornell probably haven't stopped.

Yup. This is, to the extent that such a thing exists in college, a rebuilding year. Team shows flashes of talent but tends to get pushed around and gassed late.

The shame of it is that if the Ivy League had gotten around to declaring players could have an extra year earlier and Galadja stayed, he's probably good enough to make this a very strong team, even with the inconsistencies.

I'm not sure the coaching staff even checks the transfer portal. When was the last time a player transferred to Cornell? Also, there are already three goalies on the roster for next year.

Yes, we killed O'Leary's 5 and but for that I believe we would have at least tied the game. We played a splendid final 40 minutes, we were just murdered by the first 20.

We arguably outplayed Arizona State for 4 of the 6 periods, yet lost both games. The second period Saturday and first period Sunday made the difference.

Basically our goaltenders didn't give us a chance to win.

With the young team that we have, a good goalie is very important.

We can hope that everyone improves during the season and that we peak at the right time.

But this season is going to be hard to watch.

The ASU goalie probably misplayed or lost 10-15 shots that never found a away into the net all weekend..

ASu had several pretty quick players that caused us some positioning issues.

Tough way to watch a game, they choose some strange times to change camera angles and the lack of height really made it hard to follow some plays.

ASU has some talent.. Game 1 They scored on 2 flips thru center ice one being a goalie mistake. 2 empty net goals that never happen if the game is 2-2 in game 1. In game 2 a face off goal and one nice goal on speed entry into the zone and a nice pass..

Cornell needs to get the puck to go in. But the play after we went down 3-0 was encouraging.

Without replay and live didnt really see a major. who knows if they saw much on replay behind the net unless they had camera angles they never used on the live stream. looked more like perhaps tripping over a leg?

Not sure how ASu comes out of that game with 1 penalty, but we had more than enough chances. I see why that goalie has under a .900 save perc we just never took advantage of it.

Lets hope next week we take another step forward.. really if we dont pull the goalie and lose 3-2 3-2 its just a tough weekend.

I don't want to say it's as simple as the goalies not giving Cornell a chance to win, but...the goalies didn't give Cornell a chance to win. Howe didn't have particularly good numbers in junior hockey, though neither does Koepple currently.

Also not seeing too much promise from the underclassmen other than Rego, who looks very good. Maybe Kempf and Psenicka too, but harder to tell from watching those guys. Cornell's best chance for success over the next few seasons is to (1) get lucky with one of their goalies and (2) convince the junior class to drop classes to maintain another year of eligibility.

We are in for a very bumpy season. I think we all knew this going in, but the hot start got everyone's expectations high enough that a few losses are suddenly a disaster.

There's a lot of promise and talent here. There are also a lot of growing pains. Hopefully Howe can get back to how he was playing pre-injury.

At this point, I'd give Shane starts over Mcdonald. Go with the youth.

I would think the young kids having played about 10 games are doing fine. its the small lack of depth of the upper class thats the main issue. you had 3-4 more kids who know the system and are older and thats a good amount of stress to take off the new kids. 3-2 games on the road after a month off and being sick with almost no practice is asking alot of this team. The same reason we played pretty avg the first weekend.. lets hope another solid week the take another step up this weekend and then come home ready to roll.

Ertel has been a healthy scratch 5/13 games this year. Lagerstrom is the 7th D. These guys haven't been on the ice enough to show promise, from what I've seen. So far, the only one who looks like a potentially dominant player is Rego.

As far as I can piece together, Ertel was only a fully healthy scratch when he and coach were having an, ahem, philosophical disagreement, and he needed to get right with the lord. Lagerstrom looks like a perfectly cromulent stay at home defenseman to me, and I've been impressed by the lack of drama when he's out there. Particularly important since we project our D-men into the play so aggressively.

Psenicka has shown a lot of puck skills for a guy of his size, and Kempf has been quietly noticeable, if that's a thing. Kempf seems to log a lot of minutes, and while I don't notice him making great plays, I also don't notice him making mistakes.

Kempf is already a workhorse. As an upperclassman he's going to be one of those guys who logs 35:00 TOI and plays first team pp and short.

Shane played better yesterday than he did in Saturday ;-).

But I'm guessing he played better than he had in practice, too. Practice and game play don't always correlate. Few thought Scrivens was going to be THE goalie and probably fewer thought he'd have a decent career in the NHL.

Shane earned a few more starts last night.

NCHCTV which I'm sure will run ads for tractors and bounties on abortions. You can get a monthly pass for $30 or a day pass for $17 for either game. There are no promo codes on RetailMeNot.

Best I can tell is it’s nchc.tv. One month ND pass is like 25 bucks with automatic renewal. Or 17 for one day. Something like that. Can pay more for full league access.

I finally have a lucrative adult career and $25 for two games hurts.

I've also had these games circled on my calendar to attend since forever and then the pandemic happened. Then I thought maybe it could happen anyway and omicron happened.

Hopefully we play at one of the Minnesota schools or nebraska-omaha again soon.

It's all the same in the car on the way up and back.

Unless the car dies in a remote area and I freeze to death.

Ithaca winters were more miserable and grey and felt more personal than South Dakota winters. But South Dakota winters are more likely to actually kill you if you get caught out in them.
