Arizona State is the CHN team of the week. Back-to-back wins over Clarkson is impressive. Let's hope our season isn't cancelled so we'll get a chance to play them ourselves.

How will the players' Christmas presents affect their play?
Really? I never figured he was an MOT.
After months of negotiation with the authorities, a Talmudist
from Odessa was finally granted permission to visit Moscow.
He boarded the train and found an empty seat. At the next stop,
a young man got on and sat next to him. The scholar looked at the young
man and he thought: This fellow doesn't look like a peasant, so if he is
no peasant he probably comes from this district. If he comes from this
district, then he must be Jewish because this is, after all, a Jewish
district. But on the other hand, since he is a Jew, where could he be
going? I'm the only Jew in our district who has permission to travel
to Moscow. Ahh, wait! Just outside Moscow there is a little village
called Samvet, and Jews don't need special permission to go to Samvet
But why would he travel to Samvet? He is surely going to visit one of
the Jewish families there.
But how many Jewish families are there in Samvet? Aha, only two -- the
Bernsteins and the Steinbergs.
But since the Bernsteins are a terrible family, so such a nice looking
fellow like him, he must be visiting the Steinbergs.
But why is he going to the Steinbergs in Samvet? The Steinbergs
have only daughters, two of them, so maybe he's their son-in-law.
But if he is, then which daughter did he marry? They say that Sarah
Steinberg married a nice lawyer from Budapest, and Esther married a
businessman from Zhitomer, so it must be Sarah's husband. Which means
that his name is Alexander Cohen, if I'm not mistaken.
But if he came from Budapest, with all the anti-Semitism they
have there, he must have changed his name. What's the Hungarian
equivalent of Cohen? It is Kovacs. But since they allowed him to change
his name, he must have special status to change it. What could it be?
Must be a doctorate from the University. Nothing less would do.
At this point, therefore, the Talmudic scholar turns to the young
man and says, "Excuse me. Do you mind if I open the window, Dr.
Kovacs?"
"Not at all," answered the startled co-passenger. "But how is it
that you know my name?"
"Ahhh," replied the Talmudist, "It was obvious."

I'm new to this forum (as a poster but not as a reader) so please bear with me. I have two GA seats to the 1/1 game and two SRO tickets to the 1/2 game that I cannot use. Free to first claimant. The arena is small and game is a sellout. I assume one can respond on this thread with a link that I can send the tickets to.

Maybe it's part of the ASU student activity fee. RPI would be the benchmark for free and for student-run TV that's really professional TV including those roof cameras.
Although I think we've made our peace with ESPN+ streaming because odds are decent an opponent school not in ECAC uses its, too, so we have access.

Wikipedia says: Oceanside's original name was Big Skate to match the adjacent waterpark "Big Surf" and to match the never built tennis court "Big Serve" before it was changed to Oceanside sometime before opening to match the west coast theming of the sports complex.
So basically yes.

The next town over from us is Mountainside, New Jersey, max elevation 233 feet. We're at 492 feet in Watchung and I like to think the town fathers were embarrassed at anything under 1,000 feet being "Mountainside." So, yes, Oceanside is probably ironic. I always thought as a kid that irony was invented with my generation. Millenials, Gen Z, most likely felt the same way. Although Ben Franklin was good with irony.

2 goals that shouldnt have happened but still ASU had enough pressure to get one anyway. we have no speed thru center iceon rushes. once we get the puck into their end we control it pretty well but still we have not adjusted to speed at all and so many soft passes killing anything coming up ice.

considering the ecac this yr we have to play lights out thru the conf schedule to get any chance at a PWR at large bid. need to at least go 2-2 in these 4 games to help that out.

Yeah, pretty bad period for us. ASU is a lot better than they were when they came to Lynah, which is what they should be considering they’ve recruited well and brought in some excellent grad transfers. I can see how they were able to sweep Clarkson. But no real excuse for how poorly we played in the 2nd.

Eh. If we go 4-0 and then drop 4 conference games, that's almost exactly the same for pairwise purposes as going 0-4 out of conference and then putting up 4 conference wins.
The weak conference hurts us, but beyond that, we just need to win games. Doesn't really matter which games.

This just isn't gonna happen. Our chance at the NC$$ is the ECAC title, and the ECAC title is itself a goal worthy of a season.
We will have our chances in the future after the conference gets back on its feet post-plague, but for this year and probably next year, just enjoy the ride and then hope for a nice little run to give us a chance in Placid.

lol no. why should we caveat anything like that? the game counts, they are playing on their heels and deserve to be losing after that period in a game against a mediocre team. i don't think the sky is falling but the last time we saw them play the wheels fell off and they blew a 4 goal lead. everyone knows about the layoff but regardless, they don't look sharp.dag14

Huh? It is certainly more like Cornell earns an at-large bid than that they win the ECAC. Cornell is currently 18th in the pairwise. They need only to slightly exceed their start to this season (6-1-4 against poor competition) the rest of the way to earn an at-large bid.Trotsky

Funny listening to the announcers repeat again and again who on ASU was drafted by whom. Dude, we get it already. Though, it is a little concerning ASU, which is in literal Arizona, started a D-1 hockey program seven years ago and has more draft picks (6) than Cornell (4), when we've been a top-5 program in the country the past five years.

considering the ecac this yr we have to play lights out thru the conf schedule to get any chance at a PWR at large bid.
They aren't going to run the table, they have been very lucky. We act like it's just a given they'll go .900 down the stretch. They won't -- even as a good team team they will go something like 13-5, and that's assuming they don't have a tough skein.

Cornell's current PWR win% is .73, not .90. Going 13-5 the rest of the way might just about do it.Trotsky

yeah can't believe anyone would want a scholarship to go to a party school where you never need a coatBearLover

By far the worst goaltending at Cornell since '06-'07.

The 2nd wasn't a great period, but we looked good in the 1st and we've had a better go of it in the 3rd, other than the scoreboard.
Weak goaltending makes everything look worse. Howe has had great stretches, but he hasn't looked the same since he got hurt.

Hilarious that the PBP guy talked about ASU maybe being able to “impress the committee”for an NCAA bid.

To be fair, the committee doesn't use the Pairwise, but a mysterious process that closely resembles the Pairwise. Allegedly.

We had a great start to the 3rd, but our poor power play seemed to sap our momentum.

Not too often you see a goalie give up three soft goals and zero good goals. The feed sucked so it was hard to tell for certain, but those goals looked ugly.

Highlight of the game was the refs actually being quick on the reviews.

I’m not as down about Howe’s performance as you evidently are. There were other aspects of our game that concerned me more.

tough to lose giving up 5 goals on combined zone time of maybe 6 secs..

I thought we played alright, all things considered. We looked like the better team two out of three periods. There were certainly sloppy stretches and mistakes, but road game across the country after not playing for a month is tough.
ASU isn't bad. They had a .500 record against a very tough schedule entering tonight.
Add in that their goalie outplayed our goalie, and you've got an ASU win.

I don't think Cornell even played particularly badly other than the goaltending. Possession was approximately even, on the road, first game back from break. Cornell whiffed on or hit posts on several grade-A chances. Three soft goals were the difference.scoop85

I'd say most of the people on this forum can tend goal better than Howe or When or Whoever was in goal last night.
I only had three pints of one of those 9% IPA's and I knew I could have done one of those butterfly moves with my eyes closed.
Who won the match? As I said my eyes seemed to be closed by the end.
See you all at 5.

We played atypically poorly in transition. Both while attacking and back checking we didn't have any of the distinctive Cornell shape that Mike preaches, and we didn't get results because of it. We got unlucky on the pipes, but ASU also had several wide open chances where something weird happened to deny the shot -- bad hops, deflections off their own players, guys flat out falling down on what seemed like wet ice.
Howe wasn't great, but other than Mister Toad's Wild Ride he wasn't awful. ASU made adjustments after the first period and we were unable to play our game, while they have a couple very high skilled guys who made heroic efforts and converted our mistakes.
It sucks, but I'm not sticking my head in the oven unless we go 0-4 on our Far West roadie.
At least now people will calm down about PWR. This season is about trying to get to and win in Placid, full stop.
