Class of 2025

Folks, I was ready to ask the question of how I can root for the Red if the University rejects my daughter. However, she got the metaphorical thick envelope today and was admitted early to A&S. Back to Lynah for me! Eventually...

PS she already loves Morgan Barron and I have a photo of her from Red Hot Hockey first edition with a red painted face. She's a natural for cow bell.

Congrats Arugula - you can look forward to sitting in the student section. Fwiw, Cornell reported they received over 9,000 ED applications this year (vs last year’s 6,630, which was the prior record).

Yes, wonderful for your daughter and your family.

Not surprised by Cornell's increase in ED applications, as schools that have done well managing COVID are seeing a surge in applications overall. We were on a Colgate town hall earlier this week (my son is a freshman there) and Colgate, which like Cornell has received widespread acclaim for how it has kept COVID in check, has received a record number of ED applications and three times the number of total applications compared with the same period in 2019.

Thanks for the kind words. Really can't wait to see a game Lynah. Have only seen the team on the road and at MSG since graduation I was wondering about that increase in ED. Makes sense. Handling COVID well is a reflection on handling crises well generally I guess.

Don't celebrate until you get a thick aid-package envelope.

Given the mature years of many here on the forum, "ED" gives one pause.

Gotta admit, it took me a while to figure it out (because I knew it wasn't the obvious one).

My mother, father, wife, self, son, sister, Brother-in-Law and two nieces are all Cornellians. Who do I see about a group rate for hockey tickets - once we leave this cloud behind?

I thought "ED" was the section of the Crescent they named after Marinaro ...

If you sit in that section for longer than 4 hours, see a doctor.

As to the financial aid package we received, either we're poor, or Cornell is rich.

The Washington Post had a recent story that Cornell received 17,000 more applications than the year before, up about a third from the prior year. So Argula, congrats again your daughter was admitted in an incredibly competitive year (69,000 total applications, maybe an 8% admit rate).

Thanks, she's still over the moon. Looking forward to Lynah and curious why Morgan Barron hasn't been called up to the Rangers yet!

Curious if parents are looking for ever higher quality from their institutions of higher education? Was the bump due to Cornell's better than HYP handling of Covid? Do they believe it's safer being out in the boondocks? Are they happy there is no longer the temptation of bars just off-campus?

(I have a sub to WaPost but search didn't turn up the story. You have the link?)

The Cornell data was included in the 1/29 WaPost story about applications surging for big name colleges.

Several weeks ago on the Cornell global mixer I talked with a high school senior who had been accepted early decision. He said that one of the drivers for his ED application to Cornell was the university's handling of the COVID-19 situation.
